Hello All,

we have a CRM3.0 installed, but the users are complaining about bad
performance.

I have the following questions:
- how/where do I see what is the version of CRM installed on the server?
- how/where do I see what is the version of CRM installed on the client?
- where do I download the latest version?
- the client installation is "destroying" the Outlook, and sometimes our VPN
connection, and in the worst cases we were in need to re-install the machine
- any help?
- how would I troubleshoot My-CRM-Is-Slow issues?

Our CRM server is installed with SQL 2005 server.

Thanks in advance!

Virtually impossible to start at any particular place.

1. Ensure machines are up to scratch (google hardware req)
2. Ensure latest rollup is installed
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=08badb01-4984-458e-96e6-4f08622cfe63&displaylang=en

3. Try access CRM through IP address, not DNS
4. Access CRM though web client, not Outlook

These should give you 'some' indication of what's happening. The most
obvious would be to have users compare Outlook speed to Web client speed.
Rollup1 won't make a difference in this case.

Put this way... it could be slow pc's, network issues, bad code (e.g. lots
callouts), DNS issues. I've even seen users use the mousewheel to scroll on
the activity filters, meaning for each value, they create a web request 10-15
times...

Lastly ensure users are not running reports (resource intensive) in the
middle of the day.

After doing the basics, you may end up needing to contact Microsoft for
support.

We had an issue where users were getting a 60-120 second delay when moving
to a different screen after not working in the app for several minutes. After
hours of troubleshooting, the problem was identified as a rights issue on one
of the .asmx files for reporting. A simple change resolved it, but it took
forever to find.

Hello both,

thanx for the tips - I will try.

One of the problems is that the CRM is much slower using Outlook than using
web-interface. This is evident both when clients are on the same network as
the server (users are in the office), and much much more evident when outside
the office, using VPN connection (for example, it takes more than one minute
to open a dialogue-box over VPN).

Not to mention that the newest CRM client sometimes "destroys" Outlook, so
it must be reinstalled.

Check out the following Microsoft White Paper. This should help:

Hi,

Firstly I'd certainly try ensure you have the latest Rollup then, both
client and server.

I assume you have the desktop clients (and not laptop client) installed?

There may be many reasons why your implementation of MSCRM is slower on the
Outlook client than on the Web client. The most signficant reason is slower
machines or overloaded/non-compatible software.

Essentially these are the main reasons why the Outlook client would be
slower than the web client. Additionally remember the outlook client needs to
perform syncronization of contacts, appointments and tasks. I'd recommend
checking the data sets to see whether they sync a lot of data and how often.

Good points Karlo,

I inform our staff to uncheck both the Synchronize at Startup and Contacts.
Essentially, that means they only synchronize Task and Appts. Not
synchronizing at startup helps and we don't need to synchronize Contacts. We
also have our synchronization set to every 15 minutes but one could increase
that if needed.

We still have some issues with slow response time related to VPN connection.
I think some of that has to do with some older hardware on the network, our
virus protection, and the way we monitor Web file requests.

Thanks,
Donna
