Can I have CRM automatically check for duplicate names when I enter a new
lead or contact

Microsoft CRM does not check for duplicates. You either need to put a
business process in place ie everyone check before adding new records or
implement or buy a custom solution

We found this particularly annoying, but have actually turned it into a
positive, by incorporating into the Business Process and Training
Notes, that users must check to see if an existing contact or account
exists, so that they may be able to leverage off existing relationships
someone else within their organisation already has.

This actually makes good business sense, and has been well received.

Cathy

Thank you for your response. I'm glad you were able to turn lemons into
lemonaid. Howwever, I'm not sure I understand, doesn't the system checking
for duplicates accomplish the same you are doing now only faster. What is
the advantage to doing it manually.

Thanks for your help again

the positive here is that users become more familiar with the data in the
crm system such as accounts. Because of that they are more likely to spot
times when someone else has already worked with one of their accounts.
Having the system do this would not tell they this information.

As always there are pro's and cons both ways
