I am looking for a way to customize activities in the "workplace"
section. I am familiar with adding new schema fields and have done this, and
customized other forms such as the account forms. But I do not see a way to
change the activities.
The end goal is to be able to group the activities into different types.
So I would either like to add a new field, that could be put on the form, or
add in additional types of activities beyond the email, task, etc.
Any suggestions?
I am using version 1.2 on windows 2003 server.

Thanks,
J

While it's completely true that you can't customize activities in 1.2 (the
good news is you will be able to in the next version), there are some things
you can do. They're not elegant, but you can do the following:

1) You can customize the views, although it's unsupported. To show the
activity date, or the category field, e.g.

There are numerous posts that show you how, but basically, customize any
view, hit CTRL/N to the address bar, find the objectid for the activity view
you wish to modify in the savedquerybase table in MSCRM, and paste that
objectid into the address bar, replacing the existing GUID.

2) You can use the Category field to 'group the activity into different
types'. The big drawback is this is a text feild only, so you have to rely
on your users to use this field correctly.

HTH, Good luck,
Dave

Is ther any way to hide or remove the Category and Sub-Category fields from
the form? These forms don't seem to be available in the customization manager.

If you really dont like the activites area there are a lot of ISV
solutions that replace (but dont hide) the activities screens, such as
c360.
