Hello newsgroup!

Does anybody know if and how it's possible to change the
database location of an existing CRM installation? I
couldn't find any suitable information regarding this
topic.
We've made an export of the 4 existing CRM databases,
imported them into a new SQL server on different hardware,
configured all permissions that we could figure out and
changed the SQL server name within the CRM configuration.
When starting CRM web console, all available items can be
seen and read, but neither a change of an existing entry
nor a new entry of whatever kind is possible. A message
pops up "Error. Please contact your system administrator".
Nothing more that would tell where to look for the problem.
Does anybody know what needs to be done to get it running?
Is it possible anyway?
The old SQL can still be used if the SQL server name is
changed in CRM.
Thanks for any idea and advice.

Ingrid

Yes it is possible...i did the same myself when migrating from a single
server to two servers. The steps are outlined in the implementation guide.

Thanks for the answer but I couldn't find anything related
to this topic in the implementation guide. Neither the
search for "migration" nor "SQL database" or any other
words gave me a chapter with the required information.
I don't want to migrate, but just move existing SQL 2000
databases of a productive CRM 1.2 environment from one
server to another, leaving the CRM on this machine where
it had been installed originally.
I'm using the implementation guide that it's part of the
CRM 1.2 CDs delivered by Microsoft. Do you have any other
sources where I might find the required information?
Thanks.

The steps to "recover" the DB onto the new server are covered in the Disaster
reovery section. Once restored, yu will use the Server Management tool in
Deployment manager to redirect CRM to the new server.

I am looking into moving our CRM database to a more powerful server in
the same domain. When I read through the disaster recovery on how to
restore the CRM databases, one of the steps is to restore the master
DB. Do I have to back the master database up on the old server, and
restore it on my fresh install of SQL Server? I guess the same question
goes for the msdb database.
