    - Mass Emailing Issue(s) I have about 500 clients that we went to do a Mass Email to last week and ran into several issues maybe there is a better way. I setup a new email, selected 50 accounts at a time (couldnt select more) but the problem is that if any account did not have an email address I would get an error on the whole mail and have to go through and figure out who didnt have one. Also, if the user was selected to Not be contacted through email I wasnt sure if the email would be sent to them or not. I ended up hopping in SQL exporting the email address field, pasting it into Outlook and sending it, unfortunatley it went to clients who were inactive but that was the least of my concerns at that time. heh Is there an easier way to do this, we have a quarterly newsletter and security bulletins we would like to deliver and I dont want to really use a list server product.     - CRM 1.2 Data migration This is my scenario: SMB WIN2003 running CRM 1.2 I need to migrate the data from the SMBWIN2003 server to a serve running MS Enterprise Win2003. Please note below is a copy and paste from the Small Business server documentation: Windows Small Business Server 2003 Limitations One domain- You can have only one domain on a Small Business network. In addtion, this domain must be the root of the forest No trust relationships. Because only one domain is supported on a Small Business Server network, there can be no trust realtionships with other domains. This restriction on trust relationships includes parent-child trust relationships. There can, however, be other domain controllers on the network. So with this being said, what is this best way for me to go about moving CRM data from SMB 2003 to Win2003 Ent? If there is a tool available, does it address the limiations of SMB2003? I was thinking that I could back the data up then restore the data to the new location, but not sure if there is something that will "break" because of something I may have overlooked.     - Software Update Service I want to install Windows XP SP2 on our machines. I downloaded some information explaining how to do it with Software Update Service. I installed that on our server and can not get it to work according to the manuals directions. I can' t seem to sync. servers. Help here would be greatly appreciated.     - Installing CRM Questions I posted a question about Trusts but it appears no one else has yet come across this as I had no replies. I would be grateful for any comments whatsoever of your experience. Setting up CRM in a trust environment (this is 2 way external, seperate single forest out of interest) --------------------------------------- It seems CRM will only work while the servers required for CRM are in the same domain, as I couldnt get EX router on my existing email server which would have been ideal. How well does CRM work trusts for existing servers eg NT4 boxes? Can they access SFO offline by logged in on the non-AD domain forinstance? All my testing experience says no. Do they have to be reinstalled to be domain controllers as part of the existing forest domain? I have a test situ, which works with the browser and SFO, but the Go Offline does not work while logged in on the non-crm side of the two way trust (on a seperate forest). The trust is confirmed and working fine. It works fine when logged in as the CRM active directory domain user, not necessarily a crm user as I set these up to point at the other domain users to allow access via browser. Also I am forced to probably utilise an email sub-domain on the MSCRM domain as I am told you cannot install the router on the non-crm side of the trust either, which I just couldn't get to work. Setting up email over a trust as such like this is very difficult particularly if users want to keep the same email. Does this, in conclusion, mean that you ALWAYS have to have the CRM users logged into the CRM side of the domain, even whem they have their own existing systems? I need to establish this as its quite pivotal on what is required for an implementation when existing domains occur. If you have to install a new AD domain and setup a trust to NT4, does it suggest you also need to reinstall the NT4 operating system? If MSCRM runs native mode then it will NOT work with pre-2000 compatible will it. Do you have to demote the NT boxes by reinstalling to non DC controllers to work alongside CRM (but then you are looking at single sign on, on the CRM domain). Or, is this incorrect and you should, somehow, manage to get it to work with trusts like this? If so please could someone suggest where I am going wrong? Perhaps in such a case of having two active directory forest domain controllers, that I should have installed it within the same forest even if as a seperate domain? Or again, that single sign on REQUIRES the CRM domain to be logged onto in order to get crm to work in its entirety such as ability to go offline? Or is something wrong with my trust? Does it also suggest the rule that, if an AD exists with current users that you MUST install CRM on that domain to preserve the idea of single sign on and preserve email addresses without needing sub-smtp email domains. Hi All, we have successfully installed CRM 1.2 on our small test setup including few machines, initially we added few users that we later on deleted using the unsupported way i.e from inside the sql database (systemuserbase and other related tables) as mentioned somewhere on this newsgroup. then we created the other users and things started working fine. now that we again want to add one of the previous(deleted) users, we are recieving errors like : "user already exisit in the system" can anyone help me find out what can cause this error?, i did deleted the entries from tables that were linked with systemuserbase table, and one thing to note is that we did NOT created any entries with the users before we deleted them so no chance of any data being left in other tables with the userid. any ideas ???? Hi All, well we have an issue with SFO installation, on a new machine we just installed MS Office 2003 and now when we installing the SFO we receive error message: "Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook is already installed on this computer. If you want to uninstall Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook, go to Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.(If you don't see Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook in Control Panel, then another user installed it, and that user will need to remove it before you can continue installing this version.)" just for a note, we initially tried to install CRM 1.0 and CRM 1.2 on this machine but then uninstalled them late on, also we tried to install MS Exchange on the machine but it didnt worked as well so we uninstalled it as too (but exchange gives errors during uninstall process). hope someone can help me on this.     - CRM EMAIL Hi, When I receive an email that is not in response to an email that I sent from CRM and click the Promote Email to CRM Activity button I can only link the email to one type of record (i.e account or contact). Does anyone know of a way to link it to both account and contact records? When sending an email from MS CRM it can be sent from contact records and linked to the account record using the regarding field, which means it is stored under the activities tab at the contact and account level.     - Help!!! Unbelievable!!! Cannot Add Account... Hi All. This is just great. I can no longer create Accounts. And... if I go into a contact and try to associate an=20 account I can not complete it. Both of these efforts get an "error, please contact your=20 system administrator" When I try to add the account to the contact I get four=20 errors in the application log from the server; 2 from CRM=20 and 2 from SQL. I'll post them below in case anyone has=20 the patience to read them. The 4th one concerns me where it mentions MAXDATAROW. I=20 have read everything I can find in this newsgroup to try=20 to get a clue on this. I saw only one other post in which=20 someone mentioned not being able to add a contact or an=20 account. In trying to help someone mentioned the SQL=20 transaction log limiting something. Does any one know=20 about this? Unfortunately my last backup was 2 weeks ago (shame on=20 me/vacation). I did restore to that point and then I do=20 not have any problems. But then my SFO clients are getting=20 errors like contact does not exist etc; I did use some queries to check the integroty of the=20 database too (check alloc) and nothing comes back with any=20 errors.     - Contact activity history I am currently prototyping the installation of MS CRM and I have spent a while looking at activities on contact records. What I want to do is to be able to sort the activity records by the date/time they were created (something I would have thought was a fundamental to a CRM system).     - Custom fields showing as Number type in Crystal but Picklist in CRM I've just installed Crystal Reports (9.2.2) and connected it to my CRM 1.2 database. I notice that custom fields I've added as Picklist type fields in CRM are appearing as Number type fields in Crystal, and therefore showing a number (eg 3) rather than the expected picklist item (eg 'Mobile').     - Change the Caption in Opportunity Window When I am in the opportunity window, the caption shows 'Opportunity: TestOpp' in yellow color. I would like to customize it to include account name there to make it look like 'Opportunity: TestOpp. Account:TestAccount'.     - Views or Sort by Business Unit I have an organisation with a top level Business Units and the 6 subsidiaries. This is all set up fine in CRM and the CEO can see leads across all BU's but for example a sales person can only see leads etc within their own business unit. Question is how can I provide a facility for CEO to be able to select to list just Leads (or opportunities, contacts, accounts) within a given business unit?     - Duplicate records in CRM Is there any way to enable CRM to detect duplicate entries for accounts and contacts? For example, when we add a contact for a particular company, we would like the CRM to check whether a person with such and such name already exists for the account and display a warning of some sort.     - problem with corrupted security roles I have a MS CRM setup at a customer site where everything was working fine up untill today. All users could log on to the system and work with the data linked to there BU. Everything was working as it should. But for some very strange reaon from today on users can't access there data anymore! They can still log in to the system but get an "access denied" error all the time while accessing diferent functionallities (e.g. Leads, Opport., Accounts, contacts, Products, Notes, Activities, ...). There has been no administrative action on the system for a couple of days now. Maybe a SQL maintanance task did something, I have no idee but the security roles seem to be corrupted.     - Exchange Configuration We encounter the following issue with the Microsoft CRM Exchange Router: The exchange setup consists of two exchange servers 2000 (latest SP), one internal server with the exchange store installed, and one exchange server with the MTA installed. The External mail server has several SMTP connectors to proces mail for the various subdomains. There is also a SMTP connector installed for the CRM subdomain. We installed the Microsoft CRM Exchange Router on the external machine as prescribed in the installation guide. The Exchange Router does not accept incoming messages with the CRM tag in the subject. Those messages are not marked as 'CRM messages' and do not appear in the CRM application. The connection between the Exchange Server and the CRM server is set up correctly and appears to be functioning. Regular mail to the CRM subdomain functions correctly so this issue is not DNS related. We have installed the most recent versions of the CRM Exchange Router patches. My conclusion is that the Exchange Router does not know to which SMTP connector it should listen, and is probably connected to the wrong connector. Is there any way to configure this? I used the SQL "Design Table" to get the length of each column and total up all the bytes and it came up to 4396 bytes. The number of columns for the table is 197. I'm sure it can be done. I have yet to be successful at it though. The way
Activities were designed, they aren't as flexible. All te forms are actually
hard coded ASPX pages vs the rest of the system which uses XML & XSLT to
generate the displayed forms.

CRM 2005 promises this capability though.
