campaign "E-mail via Mail Merge" - no activities created
When I "Distribute Campaign Activity" using the "E-mail via Mail Merge"
channel, the following happens:
- as expected, the emails appear in my Outlook Sent Items folder
but
- no email activities appear in the Contacts' History folders
- no email activities appear in the Campaign Activity's "E-mail Messages
Created" and "Failures" folders
- indeed sometimes the Campaign Activity's "E-mail Messages Created" and
"Failures" folders do not appear at all
My environment comprises:
- Server: CRM 3.0 with Update Rollup 2
- Client: Outlook 2003 and Word 2003 plus latest patches, CRM Desktop Client
with Update Rollup 2, Express-Soft ClickYes to dismiss the Outlook security
warning message, 'A program is trying to automatically send e- mail on your
behalf..."

Account History does not show in Account Detail menu
When you zoom into a specific account, the menu on the left displays under
Details the options of Information, More Addresses, Activites, and is
SUPPOSED to show History. When anyone in our org opens the Account window,
it briefly shows History in the right spot but then History disappears. No
one can get it to appear.
I have tried every imaginable security role modification and cannot get it
to appear. I even created a new Security Role titled "Everything" and turned
on access to every possible object entity to its fullest extent. After
setting a user to this role, same results.

A data palette that stays on top for drag&drop items.
The data palette is a small window that has a stay-on-top switch. On it items
can be pasted. Then they can be dragged and dropped off while the palette
remains on top. I am tired of switching back and forth copying small snippets
of data and pasting them into fields over and over again. With a data palette
I could load it with all the data for several fields in a spread sheed or
database and then drag and drop individual items into the appropriate fields
without switching back and forth or trying to size windows so they can be
positioned side by side.

Lead Opportunity
Hello,
We are using MS CRM and it is working great. There is one thing we can not
work around, unable to assign a Opportunity to a Lead. Is there any
modification that we can do to perform this? The reason I ask is because we
only want Active Customers in our Accounts/Contacts section, and leave all
Leads/Prospects/Potential customers in Leads. It would be nice if there was a
third account type called Prospect or Potential Customer, this isn't quite an
Account, but is further along than a Lead. Yes I know the drop-down under
Account has various different items like 'Potential' and 'Customer, but that
would get confusing.
Any ideas or are we just out of luck?

Case Activities
Can anyone tell me how we can get an activity to show up in the
Activity area of a case? When we create a new activity within a case
it links to the contact or account by default. We want our activities
that are created within the case to be linked to the case so that when
we have the case open we can easily click on the Activities and all
related activities pertaining to that particular case are right there.
Instead, we are having to get out of the case and go to the Account
and find them there. Very unproductive and doesn't make a lot of

CRM service unavailable
I've been researching this and have read all the posts on it but
nothing has fixed my issue. My CRM works perfectly until we run an
integration which imports leads and creates lead activities, at that
point a few records get integrated but then CRM slows down and
eventually goes the Service Unavailable screen. I reset IIS and
everything is fine again. I don't know where to go at this point in
troubleshooting this any further. I'm confused as to why it only
happens in the integration situation. Manually adding a lead and a
lead activity does not affect CRM the same way as the integration.
Prior to a few weeks ago the integration worked fine and no changes

CRM SQL Error
Should an error like this show up in the event log, does it show up
anywhere else? I can't find this error any place on the server and
can't find anything around the internet about it. I was able to find
out some info on WRPC, so I am pretty sure that this has to do with
the screen security timing out.
I am not asking to have this fixed, just trying to figure out how I
can get more information on an error when it happens.

Error editing a contract template
I have created some custom contract templates. I realized after saving one
that I need to make a slight modification. I set the templates up by
navigating through settings, templates, contract templates. If I navigate
back to a template I've created and saved, I have the option to view the
attributes only. I cannot make any changes to the template. Is there any way

Invalid Association using Web Mail with Larger Attachment
CRM 3.0
When I using the direct web mail function and sending 1M attachment, I got
"Invalid Association" " The request association is not valid.
However, it works with smaller attachment or no size problem if the outlook
is the client.
I modified the Web.config for maxRequestLength="8192" and the Registry Key
"maxuploadfilesize to 7D0000 (8192000, 8M)" and still have the same problem.
Any suggestion?

Sending mail when a value of a bit-field has changed
I have a bit-field with the values No and Yes. No is default.
When a user changes the value to yes, I want to automatically receive an
e-mail about this.
I've tried using workflow on Order, but it doesn't seem to work, neither
with "Manual" or "Status Change".
Could someone please tell me, if I'm doing something wrong, or if it's not

Auto incrementing field in CRM 3.0
I need to create a field that is auto incremented every time a new instance
is made.
ie I need to make new records have a unique auto incremnting number.
Doesn't seem to be easily possibly in CRM. Anyone got a simple work aorund?
I did consider making a dummy record type called variables with one record
in with a field call ref number and using that as my location for the next
number to be got. Then incrementing that value after the record is saved.

Showing orders with a certain value of a bit field?
I've included a custom field on the order form. It's a bit field with the
values YES and NO. The default value is NO.
Our employees use this field to tell the system, if an order has been
complete and is ready for invoicing. (We do not want to use the system
possibility of completing an order).
I've made a custom view of orders, where the view criteria is, that the
value of this bit field is NO. And another view where the view criteria is,
that the value is YES.
However, when I select these views, I cannot see any orders.
Could someone please explain, what I'm doing wrong?

Attachment Support while Offline through CRM Laptop Client for Out
We are using CRM Laptop Client for Outlook so that people are connected
offline most of the time and they synchronize their data once or twise a week.
The question is: Are attachments supported while connected offline ?
I say that because I tried to access attachments available inside a Sales
Literature item while connected offline but I couldn't see the attachments. I
am only able to see them while connected online! Is this a known limitation?

Ple help me! I am getting trouble with setting up the MSCRM
environment for MSCRM server, CRM database server, Reporting Service
Server and Reporting Database servers are on separate machines. MSCRM
servers are setup with hardware NLB(web-farm) and CRM database servers
are Active/Passive Clustered. CRM server is working fine because I can
do the other things work fine in CRM interface. But, when I click the
Reports in CRM interface, I got an error with Inter error occurred and
contact your network or system administrator.
How can i solve the problem?

How to attach a company AND a contact person to an order?

Having selected the customer (company), I also want to be able to select a
contact person in a lookup field (a perfect solution would be to select only

Hi,
Let say there are 4 BU define in my systems and name it as BU1 up to BU4
accordingly. And each BU has manager and sales person that is different from
other BU. Is it possible that BU1 manager can see all lead, opportunity for
BU2? But BU2 manager cannot see the BU1 lead and opportunity??

Compare and Merge Two different CRM Instances
We have two different CRM environments that we want to merge into
one. My first step was to try and compare the different instances to
see what the different were between them.
I exported all of the customizations from each and performed a diff.
Yuck. Since the customizations don't export the elements in the same
order it looks like their are over 7,000 differences between the two
files. Reality says that at best there may be 50-100.
Is there any way to get these to output in the same order so that I
can get a more realistic diff between them? The only other thought I
have at this point is to try and do something with an xslt transform
to get them sorted.
If anyone has a better approach or idea on how to accomplish this,
please let me know.

I've been working with Salesforce.com as well as MS CRM and currently

Salesforce was a joy and resulted in a really high quality, rich interface.
I'm just finishing up building a functionally similar integration for MS CRM
and, while it is going to be a great product, the lack of any built in
telephony integration support in CRM means it has to be bolted on and simply
doesn't integrate as well.
So, is anyone aware of plans by MS to address this shortcomings?

Error when loading crm default page
Hello, when loading my crm default page i've got this error:

Cannot email to multiple email addresses for one contact
Currently in CRM when you send an email to a contact, the only email address
that is used is the Primary Email address. We often need to send an email to
more than one email address for a contact, currently we cannot do this. It
seems almost pointless having up to three email addresses for a contact if
only the primary email address is used as default by the system, without any
option to change this when producing an email.

How to set default Opportunity field values upon Lead conversion
When a Lead is converted to an Opportunity, I want the default value of
closeprobablity to be set to 25% and rating to be set to cold (3). I have
added Jscript code to the onchange event for the rating attribute in the
Opportunity Form to handle connecting these attributes values. I have set
the default value for rating to be cold (3) at the attribute level --
however; converting the Lead doesn't set the rating to cold.
The only thing I find my search of this site is a "suggestion" for MS made
in 8/06. Any other ideas as to what is the best way to set these attribute
defaults (rating/closeprobability) upon Lead conversion?

Appointments won't synchronize in CRM & Outlook
When trying to link CRM contacts to Appointments in Outlook through the
Outlook Client you get the following error message.
An error occurred promoting this item to Microsoft CRM. The Microsoft CRM
Server could not be contacted or the user has insufficient permissions to
perform this action. This item has been saved to Microsoft Outlook but is not
being tracked in Microsoft CRM
When trying to to save an appoinment in CRM, I get the message "General
failure in scheduling engine. Ignore and Save or Cancel."
So the appoinments will not synchronize no matter where I start them from. Tag: activate user Tag: 88979
