I am trying to create, distribute, and track all campaign responses
from MS CRM 3.0. I have successfully accomplished the following steps

1. Create Marketing List
2. Create Marketing Campaign
3. Attach the marketing list to the marketing campaign
4. Create a new campaign activity. The activity that I have created is
"E-mail via mail merge".
5. I have then distributed the email (via mail merge).
6. I have received a response from the campaign with a CRM tracking
token from the campaign.
7. I have clicked the 'Track in CRM' button to promote the e-mail. In
the regarding field, the name of the campaign activity then appears. In
this case, it is the name of the email that was sent to all marketing
list contacts.

However, after I have promoted it the e-mail, it is still not tracked
as a 'campaign response' under the marketing campaign, even though on
the server settings I have E-mail tracking turned ON and 'Create
campaign responses for incoming e-mail' turned ON. No campaign
responses are tracked anywhere. The only place the e-mail is tracked is
in the 'history' section of each individual contact. Can someone please
tell me why I can't get the campaign responses to track as campaign
responses, all in the same place?

Thank you in advance,

z

The campaign response is a separate record then the email, depending the
setting it could be auto created from email responding to your outgoing email
merge.

Does your replyed CRM emails currently auto link to the regarding record or
do you have to manually "track"?

two things

why do you have to promote the email to track it? Have you not got the rules
setup to forward etc?

also...can you create a campaign which creates a normal email activity. add
your own external email account as the sole person on the marketing list and
generate the email activity. Now send it and reply to it and let me know if
that comes in as a response.

Just trying to see if the email via mail merge is working differently

We had a similar problem in that we could not automatically track Campaign
Responses to email activites. The was that we neglected to run the Rule
Deployment Wizard on the Exchange server - something you must do for each new
CRM user that you create.

Hi Frank,

Thanks for your response. If I understand your question correctly, I do
have the correct settings checked to yes. Within Settings I've double
checked that "Create Campaign responses for incoming email" is checked
to yes.

Hi John,

Thanks for your response. I have created a test campaign with my own
external email address. I could then reply to that email, and the
response would show up in my Outlook inbox. The message, however, would
not be automatically tracked in CRM as a campaign response. Likewise, I
went through the web client to send myself a simple email. I then
replied to the email, and that email never showed up in the history
section of that contact. I have opened a ticket with Microsoft and we
think the problem might stem from the CRM-Exchange Router not being
installed. Once we have this up and running, I will give it another
shot and let you know if it works.

Hi bullines, thanks for your help. Could you elaborate on the Rule
Deployment Wizard on the Exchange server? I'm not sure as to what you
are referring.

Thanks again, everyone for your help. I really appreciate your time!
