    - Having trouble with SFO offline We have 2 problems ! One where a customer goes offline and is able to use oppertunities, leads etc. except accounts. When I click on the top folder where it says CRM it says something about rights ?     - Creating a new object Hello all! Our company is new using CRM customizations. We want to create a custom object (like Account, Product, Opportunity, Lead, etc...). However, we can find no documentation on how to do so. Is it possible to do this, and if so, how would we go about doing it? Also, CRM is being weird as far as the isv.config is concerned. It doesn't seem to be accessing it when it is turned to "On" from the web.config. It was working yesterday before we left, but now it's not working. Any suggestions?     - Is there a way to add a link to an Exchange Public Folder email to a Support Case description? I don't see any way to promote an email to a CRM Support Case, and the email capability in CRM is about as helpful as the old teletype with no rich text, no ability to paste a message with graphics, charts and other helpful descriptive material. I am trying to see if I create an Exchange Public Folder for CRM Cases if I can create links in the case descriptions to the public folder messages so that as a case is passed through the workflow to resolve the issue that related emails can be linked and easily reviewed by clicking on the associated links.     - What is the proper way to handle internally generated support cases? I would like to route support cases generated by our internal Q/A testing group through the CRM support system with each defect identified becoming a Case and then routing the case just like an outside generated case for a product defect. If the people submitting the Case are also CRM users and it is our own company submitting the case do I need to create an Account for our own company and have contacts created for the people in Q/A?     - Newbie with a couple of quick questions Hi Folks, We have an outside contractor that is supposed to be helping us implement CRM. I am helping the service team collect requirements in order to generate specifications. Our contractor has indicated that there is a limitation to the number fields that can be created. We have a lot of custom fields we would like to add (an example is a problem-cause-resolution set of fields). Is there a limitation? Anyone know what it is? Secondly, they have given us a test instance to play with. I will be a super-user when we are ready to roll. I have been experimenting with customizing the case report forms. My changes do not show up when entering new cases. I have exited and re-accessed the app, and still don't see it. I have the MS CRM for dummies book, not much help for what I'm doing.     - Add column "accounts" to activities Hello there, I'm using the Sales-for-Outlook and want to monitor if all colleagues are using the program correctly. One of the things I've got to look at is whether they link a CRM-activity to an account in the Regarding-field. As far as I can see, the only way to do this is by clicking on each activity and look whether the Regarding-field contains (the right) items. It would be much easier if I could add a column, which contains the accounts filled in in the Regarding-field, to the total activity-list.     - Outlook client error One user is experiencing a problem with the Outlook client (web version is fine) (MS 1.2 Office 2003 XP security issue with hot fix installed). When opening Outlook and trying to access the CRM folders, he gets an error message saying that the server cannot be found. Cache has been cleared and the system has been restarted but still it doesn't work. Since he can access the web client, it is not because that he hasn't got a license.     - launch query on new thread? Using csharp/asp.net and the SDK, I want to launch a process containing a long-running CRM query on a new thread. I don't care about waiting for an async callback, because the new thread will write its status to the cache, so I just launch the new thread with thread.Start(). Problem is, the new thread doesn't appear to have permission to execute a CRM fetch; I get an http 401 error. It executes a crm login right before that without a problem though. I'm guessing this is because the new thread doesn't run in the same security context as the thread that launched it, but I don't know how to determine this or what to do about it. The web folder is already configured for windows authentication, and anonymous access is not allowed. If I run the very same code without spawning a new thread, it works great. Anyone got some tips?     - Specified logon name already exists Please help. I have a remote CRM user who has been using SFO for about a month now without problems. Yesterday, however, he went offline and now when he attempts to go back online he gets the following error: "The specified logon name already exists. You must specify a unique domain logon name or open the user record that is using this name already." He is able to access CRM via the web interface, and his Outlook appears to be functional.     - Print quote + export to word + save as + create note w/attach Hi all, I would like to know if anybody has already done something similar, even using some (cheap) commercial program. The main goal is to add a button on the quote form (as explained previously in this group) that should: - invoke Crystal Report in a "silent mode" passing some parameters (quote ID, folder name to say where to put the exported report, etc.) and telling CR to export the report in Ms Word format to the folder specified; - create a note with the Word file attached. I am sure the last step is very easy, but I cannot figure out about the first one. I think that editing a quote in Ms Word format prior to send it to the customer should be one of the easiest activities of a salesman, and with this product seems to be a bit too complex... Another way could be to use SFO and the "Print quote for customer" function, with the mail merge feature, but in this case if you added some fields to the offer you can not use those new fields, and your customer will not be happy so much. I waited also for the Office Information Bridge Framework for CRM, and for something called "Accelerator for Proposal" (mmh, the name was exactly was I was looking for...), but I discovered that the MOIBF for CRM only "exposes" account, contacts, and so on, and we are still waiting for the Accelerator. I found the posting about needing to be logged in as the original administrator to use the subject manager, however, I can't seem to switch to use a different user now that I have created the administrator user.     - Automatically updating fields Hi, Sorry to repost this but I just want to check whether there are any new options for what I want to do: I have several thousand records in MS CRM (leads and accounts), which contain fields like annual turnover, number of employees etc. In 12 months time the information in such fields will be out of date and I need to be able to up date these fields from an external source so that we can continually target our marketing activity based on fields like turnover, number of employees etc. Responses to my original post gave the following options: 1. The reporting service works for a while and then stops - restarting all of the crystal services make no difference but after rebooting the server it starts to work again. Finally I resolved the problem by tracking through the connection that the Crystal_CrystalAPS service uses. It uses a DSN to connect to the database (Specified in the service properties). testing the connection was failing - it turned out in my case that the service was using the local service account and that the local service account on my server didn't have any access rights on the database. I have fixed this by granting (Temporarily) the IIS01$ service account SysAdmins rights on the SQL server. I am posting this purely in case other people have the same problem and want another straw to clutch at!     - Send Direct E-Mail as another User I apologise if someone has posted this before but I've looked everywhere and cannot find an answer to this one. I am trying to send a direct email template as another user and I am having issues. There issue is to do with assigning as another user. Here is the process that I am following. 1. I select the records (contacts or accounts) that I wish to send the email to. 2. I select Actions -> Send Direct E-Mail 3. I select the appropriate template that I wish to send 4. I select the Option to Send Direct e-mail to: Selected Items on this page 5. I select the magnifing glass at the right of User/Queue: to select the Send direct e-mail from: field 6. In the Look Up Records Window I select the Go button and I see only my own Username. No matter of searching (ie entering correct user names or wild characters) will result in another User Name being displayed. I have tried adding Users to teams/Territories they are all in the same Business Unit. I have tried from a System Administrator account however none of these have resulted in another user being displayed.     - Users of top-level business unit are unable to log in to CRM. All of our users who are members of the top level business unit are unable to access CRM through SFO or CRM Web. When attempting to access through the Web, receive "External Error - No Such Object on Server - The selected object could not be found. Verify that the object exists in both the database and the Active Directory. Hi

Our users want the ability to set a reminder for when a particular
task is due. I know you can do this by using a CRM Task from within
Outlook. However, there is no facility for a reminder when setting a
task from within MSCRM. This seems to be inconsistent. Is there any
way around this?

If you open the task in Outlook, it will open the CRM Task form. The CRM
Task Form in Outlook has a reminder field that your users may use. Reminder
info doesn't synch with MSCRM data, however. As long as they stay in Outlook
though they should get a reminder.
