Hello all
After successfully installing CRM Server, I went ahead and installed the
client for Outlook on my machine. Everything was fine, but when I opened
Outlook I got an error (which seems to be very popular): An error occurred
loading Microsoft CRM functionality. Try restarting Microsoft Outlook.
Contact your system administrator if errors persist.
I have read many posts providing possible solutions but none have worked for
me. It could be that my problem is different from others', but it could also
be a possibility that I did something wrong when trying out the solutions.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks much!
S.R.

First, I'd recommend testing your connectivity and permissions. Can you
access CRM through the web page? It should be the same URL you gave when
installing CRM for Outlook. See if you can do that, and if so, can you create
an email via the web app (you don't need to send it, just create it).

I can access CRM through the browser, but I can't find the email option on
it. Where is it?

In the toolbar, there's a set of icons. One of them will have the tooltip of
email. Or you can click on the New Activity button above the list of
activities in the main pane.

I don't see it in the browser :S

That sounds suspicious - one reason the button would not show up is if you
don't have permission to create an email in CRM. And if that was the case,
then Outlook also would be disabled.

Check with your administrator about your permissions. To use Outlook you
must have permission to create email records in CRM.

Just to be clear - you have the File ... Tools menus on the top, right below
them is a toolbar of buttons, and those buttons have no button that has a
tooltip of "Email" - right? What buttons do you have?

Well I am the administrator, sorta. I am an intern right now, and one of my
tasks is to deploy CRM entirely, and I am pretty sure I am in the
administrators group.
Let's see, when I open CRM using the browser I get a toolbar File | Go To |
Tools | Help. Right below it, there is a button, Advanced Find, and the help
icon. Below that, there is the Workplace, etc. However, I am not sure what I
did just now but I don't see the Settings and Customization buttons on the
lower left corner, they just kinda disappeared :S how would I recover these?
If I open CRM in the server, I do see them, so I don't know if maybe it is
just the browser being weird.
Also, in Outlook, I have the File....Tools etc toolbar, then the New,
Delete, etc toolbar; then the CRM toolbar, but it is not active, I can't
click on anything (I can browse through the reports, articles and
announcements in Outlook though, there is a folder that I can expand). I hope
this is thorough enough.
Thanks,
S.R.

Settings and Customization will disappear if you have Outlook open and
running CRM sometimes - close Outlook, refresh, if that doesn't work, clear
your cookies and try again. Because we are going to need to go into Settings
and check - it all looks like you do not have permission to create any type
of record at all - that definitely will cause the problems you have in
Outlook.

As I recall, it's Settings, Business Unit Settings, Users. Open your user,
and click on Roles in the left pane under Details. If you are administrator,
you should have permission to add roles - I believe the button is called
Manage Roles? From there, find some roles that apply to what you want to
test, and apply them to yourself.

I don't know if there's any propogation time or anything, a full browser
refresh hopefully will show a bunch of new buttons.

WHOA! ummm I fixed all of the problems I had just now, I went to my Profile
and unchecked Restricted Acess (I am not sure what it was, but it was
something like restricted). Now I don't get the error when I open Outlook, I
can create emails, etc.
Thanks much for the help though, I really appreciate it and I will post
again if I come across any more problems.

No problem. Sorry - I forgot all about the Restricted Access checkbox. Yeah,
that'll do it.
