I posted an earlier problem with getting Customizations option to show up in
settings when using the Outlook 2007 client.

I didn't get much help, so I am hoping that rephrasing my question will help.

I received one reply that said customizations were not available in the
outlook client, but I have seen it and have been able to get it to appear a
couple times in my Outlook. The problem is that no one knows what causes it
to come and go.

Once I was able to get it to appear by clearing the cache in outlook and
clearing cookies in IE. I have not been able to reproduce this one.

The other way is to go into the registry and go to My
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSCRMClient and change the
LightClient setting from a 1 to a 0. This will make it appear every time for
me, but then I lose the buttons such as New Activity, New Record, Track CRM,
etc.

I just stumbled upon this and I am sure this is not what really needs to be
changed, but it at least proves to me that I am able to get the
Customizations option on my machine.

Anyone have any ideas how I can get this option all the time?

Hi,

Your are right that you should be able to access the customisations though
outlook. The times that it will appear are if you have connect to CRM using
the webclient while outlook is closed, and opened outlook with the webclient
still open. This is due to the web and outlook clients using the same cookies.

I expect that your CRM 4 install is an upgrade from CRM3, as the sitemap has
been upgraded from 3, so the customisation is only avaliable in the web
client. To get it in the outlook client edit the sitemap. In the XML, where
is has the line about System Customization, removed the client="web". This
should give you the customizations in outlook.
You can also edit the site map using the Microsoft Demonstration Tools
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=634508dc-1762-40d6-b745-b3bde05d7012&DisplayLang=en)
which gives you a nice interface to make these changes.

Hope this solves your problems
