When I install the Outlook Client (3.0), either laptop or desktop
version, it causes Outlook to "freeze" or "lock up" after about 30-45
seconds. The only way to continue os to kill the Outlook process in
task manager. Ideas?

Thanks

Are you sure it is frozen? I have found it takes a very long time to sort
things out when you first start Outlook. The indexing service and the CRM
sync process. I have found once you let it go through the initial trash it
settles in pretty well.

The entire CRM sync process is VERY cpu intensive. I am playing with some
of the system settings to reduce the impact on Outlook.

I have let it sit for over an hour. It sits at about 45% CPU whith
nothing else open which to me suggests that it is doing
something....never seems to complete though.

On my machine it seems to get locked up waiting for some windows
process to either free up or start. I often have outlook open for
20-30 mins before it manages to properly start. In the mean time I
usually can't install anything or view the properties screen from right
clicking on my computer. Very odd and it all started when I installed
the outlook client. It persists even after I uninstalled it too.

I let it sit and after 3 hours, it ran out of memory and
stopped....sigh.

I've had the same problem. My client was a brand new, vanilla
XP-SP2/updates build that was totally stable, with Office 2003 SP2/updates.
Then I installed the CRM (online) client and the required .Net 1.1 stuff,
with all the default settings for synch, etc.

That's when my headaches began - now I have sporadic instances where the box
totally locks up - I can't even bring up Task Manager with a 3-finger salute
to kill the offending process and after 1-2 hours, I have to boot the box.

I think MS has a memory leak or rampant thread/process in this product that
is going to need some additional work. I'm going to advise my users to stay
away from the Outlook client until MS gets it right.

Hi,

Not sure what the issue is but we have it too.
We have upgraded a whole lot of clients to v3 and some sites are fine but
this is getting very bad for a whole heap of our sites.
It's amazing that there is such a massive hole in this that MS hasn't fixed!
I am starting a case with them today, will post if I find a result.
If you remove the addin then outlook loads fine with the toolbar but when
the addin is removed the toolbar doesn't work (isn't active).

Regards,
Nathan

You may want to consider from the Security Roles, turning off CRM Address
Book. I have noticed a significant improvement in opening CRM by turning
this fuctionality off. There is a loss of functionality by doing this, but
is speeds up CRM opening quite a bit. I also turned off sync with Outlook
as well (at least the contacts portion) and turned off sync crm with outlook
on Start up.

Hi there

I had a similar problem with two of my CRM clients. It turned out to be
a problem building the data set during the first sync process

Managed to resolve this issue by going into CRM >> Local Data, removing
the data group for contact and then recreating it.

Within CRM there is a help file "Edit your local data group
filters". You may find this helpful

All the best

Emi

Thomas,

With the many clients recieving this issue we did one or all of the below to
get it working. Generally 3 and 4 worked for us.

RESOLUTION 1
Re-create the Outlook Profile.

RESOLUTION 2
Re-create the User Profile on the PC.

RESOLUTION 3
Remove the 'Go Offline' and 'Sync with Outlook' buttons from the role in
which the user facing the issues is using. Best method is to duplicate the
role a user has assigned (eg salesperson) and create a second role and name
it somthing descriptive and memorable. Open the user's properties and remove
the existing roles and add the newly created role and add it to that user.

RESOLUTION 4
In Control Panel on the effected users pc, open the 'Users' area, goto
advanced and then manage passwords. In this menu, remove any/all server and
crm server entries.

RESOLUTION 5
Ensure Internet Explorer is set to automatically login with existing
username and password.

HTH
