Hi -

I'm getting some very strange (and annoying) behavior with outlook.
Periodically (every 15mins or so), Outlook will slow to a crawl. Typing an
e-mail becomes very erratic and difficult. This lasts anywhere from 30sec to
a couple of mins.

Looking at CPU usage, I notice that Outlook CPU cycles spike up to over 50%
during this period of time . Guessing that it might be related to the CRM
sync (since that is scheduled to occur every 15mins), I checked out the sync
progress dialog . What was weird was that even though the dialog reported
that all sync tasks were complete, the animated progress bar was still
moviing. Also, it seems very strange that the CRM sync process would consume
over half of my CPU cycles for 2-3 mins when nothing needed syncing! And you
can see a lot of I/O is occuring during this period.

This behavior only started after I recently re-installed CRM. My local
profile recently got corrupted and I had to recreate it. As an end result,
it turned out that I had to re-install CRM. I never experienced this
behavior before then.

Any thoughts?

Are you running the laptop or desktop version?

Check if Outlook on the desktop is running in Cached Mode. We
encountered this problem on most of our desktops. Some desktops had
cached mode on. On the others, we had to go through the process of
recreating the Windows user profiles, after which the speed was back to
normal.

The problem lies in the synching that outlook does with crm in the
background. Only way I have found to fix this problem is to disable the
background synchronization.

CRM -> Options -> (Synchronization tab) uncheck contacts tasks and
appointments or change the synch period at the bottom.

I am pretty sure this will help you out.
