Out of a sudden, I'm unable to login to a production server using the
default account used for installation.
Any help would be appreciated!

service activity doesnt appear in"Activity" of Cases
When we create service activity in cases , it doesnt appear in activity
of case. Although all other activities appear in activity and history.
Anyone can check it in system ? What can be the reason ?

Problems with importing
I am busy importing data into CRM V.3. I have converted an access database
into csv. format and I have two files, one for accounts and one for contacts
which are ready for importing. I am logging into CRM remotely and I am also
running a virtual machine which I am using to test the import process.
I have decided to import the contacts first and I converted the file to txt
format, I then dragged the file across to the virtual machine and I
successfully imported the 2000 odd contacts.
When I atttempted to remotely import this file into CRM I received an error
message stating that the source import file was corrupt. I saved this file in
Unicode format and I was still unable to import the data successfully.
I did notice that the file had changed after I had dragged it from the
virtual machine. I am now attempting to import only a portion of the contact
database, using only Salutation, Name, Last Name and Telephone Number,
however I receive the following error message "The same microsoft CRM field
has been mapped to a source field. Please map the fields to a unique source
field."
When I try to import this exact same file in the virtual machine the import
process is successful.
I am unsure where I am going wrong and any assistance would be greatly
appreciated.

Creating an opportunity product through .Net
Hi,
I was trying to create a new opportunity product using callouts. The problem
i face is that the opportunty to which i require to create an opportunity
product is also created in the same callouts. Althought the opportunity seems
to be getting created I am unable to attach an opportunity product to the
created opportunity. I have also tried using an ASPX page instead of callouts
but that does not work either. The same error persists. The error description
is as follows:
1) On the creation of the opportunity product using the webservice Create
function, the exception says "The opportunity id is missing or invalid ". The
error persists on hardcoding the opportunity id as well.
The same seems to be working for the creation of order and order product.
Any code snippet available for this will help.

Send mail not working (created in C:\Inetpub\mailroot\Badmail)
I have created a virtual installation with one DC with exchange and one
server with MS CRM. Sending mail between users in outlook works fine
but when sending mail from web client to a internal user doesn't work.
The email is created in C:\Inetpub\mailroot\Badmail.
Do i need to configure SMTP virtual server or am i missing something?

newb - multiple fields on one attribute
I have a request for crm 3.0. The request is to have one attribute
like "price" but 3 fields to input 3 different prices into the system.
The reason: They want to put up to 3 products into a quote and 3

Outlook functionality vs. IE Client - Document Available?
Is there a document available that outlines the functionality included in
each client? For example the KnowledgeBase is only available in the web

Sending E-Mail through CRM Web
Hi,
I have CRM 3.0 installed on one server, Exchange on another. During setup,
I specified my SMTP server as the Exchange server. When I attempt to send an
email I get an Invalid Association Error. I set the config file to show more
details on the error and all I'm getting is
"System.Web.Service.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process
request." The source error shows an unhandled exception, and the stack
doesn't provide much help either.
I found a KB article referencing this error that listed the cause as port 25
being blocked by antivirus software. I verified that I can telnet into port
25 of my exchange server. I also turned max logging on the exchange server
to see if I could get more details. The exchange server doesn't even show it
as accessed from the CRM Server.

Upgraded to 3.0 lost notes
Hello all, I've just upgraded from version 1.2; running on Windows
2003 standard/Sql standard, sp4 version 8.0. The cases we had existing
have lost all notes, however if there were documents such pdf or word
files, those are still there.
I have not installed the Exchange email router yet, nor did I have it
installed previously. Is this needed for notes? If not is there a query

Installation challenges
Hi All,
We're trying to install CRM 3.0 onto an SBS2K3 server. We've got Exchange
2K3 running, fully patched everything yesterday to get SBS SP1 installed,
although the Exchange server is on SP2.
WSS is installed and running, as is SQL 2000, patched to SP4.
When installing, everything ran just fine until we got right to the end - at
that point, an error was generated: The group 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'
already exists in the current database.
The installation then fails (retrying gave the same error at the time, so I
hit cancel and the install aborts).
Since it was getting a little late (1:30 or so) I decided to give it another
run today. When I run the Environment Diagnostics Tool I get the following
error: Version string portion was too short or too long.
At that point apparently we're done. We do have program entries on the
start menu,a nd a couple of new databases on our SQL server, but errors
galore if we actually try to do anything (as expected - the install failed,
after all).
Can anyone point me toward some things to look into? I'm ready to pick up
the phone and purn a support case if need be, but thought I'd ask first.

Authentication error on new install
Hello, we have just installed CRM 3.0 SBE on our SBS Premium server.
Using the Deployment Manager, we added some users to CRM. However, when
those users try to go to our CRM site, http://everest:5555, they get an
Authentication Error window from CRM.
We also get an error when trying to use Outlook with CRM.
What do we need to do to resolve this? Or where do we start looking?

I'm working in a Norwegian company. We don't have any international offices,
and we are in the Central European time zone.
It seems that all activities are saved in GMT time. Is there a way to have
these be saved in our time zone?

Is anyone else having the following issue?
We are running XP clients with Outlook 2k3 SP2. We also use CRM 3.0 clients.
The clients were running Microsoft Messenger without any porblems. A couple
upgraded to Live Messenger. Now when we start Outlook on those client
machines, it takes over 2 minutes to load. If you turn off Live Messenger
Outlook starts up in under 10 seconds.

Usage of Relationship roles
I'm configuring CRM to work for one of my clients that is interested in
tracking how new introductions and work come into the firm. I think I should
use the relationship roles functionality to define relationships between and
existing customer contact and a new introduction or opportunity. Are
relationship roles the way to do this? If so, how do I report on these
relationships and where are they seen in the application after the
relationship has been defined?

Giving Clients Access to CRM
Hello All,
I have just started looking at Microsoft CRM to allow me to create one site
to replace many sites/applications I have to manage my customers.
Currently, I have a support ticketing system that works off SLA's. The
customer can create new tickets and view past tickets. Management for that
company can also view all tickets for the company. And, of course, my service
engineers can add/update/close tickets when resolved.
I have a sharepoint site which holds documents for each client. Currently, I
don't give access to the client on this site, but would like for them to
"view only" the documents I have on them.
I started looking around for something better so I can give a "one-stop"
experience to my customers, and give them the ability to see their quotes and
invoices all in the same place. Microsoft CRM looks promising for the few
hours I've read about it.
But, before purchasing and installing, I wanted to check with you to see if
it's really capable of accomplishing all these tasks, allowing me to give
resticted rights to a client to log into CRM and see just their info, create
new sevice tickets, etc., basically creating a customer portal.
Any thoughts, suggestions, places to look for more info? Thanks for all your

Evaluating email tracking
Hi,
I'm trying to wrap my head around the email tracking function in MS CRM.
I find the 'Track in CRM' behaviour very odd though. When
choosing 'Track in CRM' in Outlook the email gets added to your own
personal queue. From here though I can't really see anything you can do
with it apart from convert it into an oppotunity. What if I want to
convert it to a lead or maybe a case?
I would of the thought the logical thing would be when you click 'Track
in CRM' it would prompt you to associate it with an existing case, lead
etc or create a new one and associate it with that.
I also find it odd that if you do associate it with an existing case etc
, the email still sits there in your queue.
Sure you can delete the email from your queue but then it no longer
appears in the history of the case you associated it with.
I would be very greatful if someone could explain how it works exactly.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck on the error
I'm installing MS CRM on two machines one MS CRM Server and one SQL Server.
It says that it cannot find the SQLAccessGroup but it is already defined
under the AD.
Action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Server.GrantDatabaseAccesAction failed. Setup
could not complete this action. This might be due to the fact that there are
multiple Domain Controllers and they have not replicated new Microsoft CRM
information yet. If this is the case you have several options: 1. Goto the
domain controller and manually force synchronization. 2 . Wait 15 minutes
(typically) until the domain controller synchronizes automatically. 3. Click
retry a few times until Setup finds a
different domain controller that has the Microsoft CRM information. Windows
NT user or group 'Domain\SQLAccessGroup{GUID}' not found. Check the name

CRM 1.2 Security Service will not start
This morning I am having an interesting error. Security Service did not start
after reboot. When I tried to start it manually, an error appeared:
Could not start the Microsoft CRM Security Service service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a
timely fashion.

Resetting the Invoice start number
We are reimplementing CRM and want to restart the invoice numbering so that
there are no overlaps with our existing invoices. When I look at the
Organisation Settings > Autonumbering > Invoice it is showing the value 1001
in the number field, but this field is disabled. I would like to set this to
2001.
How is this done?

How do I create advanced find on multiple records?

Our company wnet live this week with MS CRM 3.0 so I have a lot to learn
yet. However, one thing I'm trying to create is an advanced find that
searches multiple records at once. I've read the help file and have searched
here and ca't seem to find the answer.
Here is the scenario:
As a sales rep, I spend a lot of time prospecting. When I find a company (or
contact) I want to search our database to see if they are already entered and
being worked by another rep. Since this company could already be in CRM as a
lead, opportunity or account, is there a way to create one search (and a
saved view) that checks all three of these records for the company or contact
at once?
If they are in the database, I also need to see who the owner is and the
last time there was activity for the company. I assume I can add columns that
would show this.

Can not Log into the Web Interface
Hey all I have another topic under installing CRM 3.0 however just want to
clarify here. I can have CRM installed the checklist all comes off green and
it is in. I can nto get into the web interface or anything else for that
matter. When I go to the web interface i get:

Authentication Error
Microsoft CRM could not log you on to the system. Make sure your user record
is enabled and that you have been assigned at least one security role. For
more information, contact your system administrator.
So we are resolving to the site but no go. When I try and access the
Workflow manager it tells me the database is not responding. So while CRM is

Changing the default form size
We have a client that has customised Contacts and included additonal fields
on the Contact form.
The form now opens with a scroll bar down the right.
They would like to increase the size of the form when it opens so that all
fields are visible without having to resize the form or scroll down.
I understand it is not possibe to alter the default size of the Contact's
form?
If this is not true, please advise how.
If it is true, we suggest it would be a useful enhancement.

When Running a Report internally the report generates properly. When we run
the report on an external machine and click Run Report, the page displays an

Disabling Advanced Find in CRM 3.0 for a given role
Is there a way to remove or disable the Advanced find from the top Nav for a
given role?
Is this something that has to be done by code or can be done through the

Deployment Manager Empty or Broke - not showing User Manager...
Try logging in as the admin user that installed CRM on the CRM server.
Deployment Manager should show Server Mgr/License Mgr/User Mgr. If Server and
User is missing then most likely the Admin user that installed CRM is set to
disabled in CRM. When you install CRM 3.0 it creates that user as the admin
in CRM. Once a user is created it cannot be removed, only disabled. So unless
you've gone into the
DB and did some editing directly to the tables, the user should still be
there in CRM. Log into CRM as an admin and go to Settings/Business Unit
Settings/Users. Then in the upper right change the View to Disabled Users.
See if your admin is there. It may have a strange Full Name but if you click
on the Users details it will show the login account ID. Look for your admin
account that installed CRM and see if it is set to Disabled.
If so, enable it and log on to the CRM server as that admin and Deployment

I've seen a few posts about Scribe Insight for migrations. We, as I've
stated in earlier posts, are looking to migrate from Goldmine 6.5. Is the
495 dollar price for the 45 day migration license worth it?
Has anyone done a migration from Goldmine to MS CRM that would be willing to
share their insight (and perhaps their paid consulting services??).
Any freelance MS CRM developers out there that might want to help us out
here and there?

Simpler txfer/sync contacts between bus contact manager and CRM
I cannot believe that the synchronisation of account and contact data between
outlook business contact manager and CRM3.0 is SO BAD! The mapping process is
a joke which will almost destroy the useability if every time i want to take
contact data from business contact manager to CRM3.0 i have to produce a csv
file turn it into an excell file and then remove columns then turn back into
a csv file and then import into CRM3.0. Surely if CRM is installed then all
contact data should be from on source only ...end of story?

Business Data Lookup Snap
Hi,
I have an install of CRM 3.0 and I am trying to connect using the business
data lookup snap which is failing on connecting to the CRM server on the
install. I have it setup so that CRM is on a different domain to the domain
everyone is logging onto and am using the web client for the users and a
trust has been setup.
What i don't understand is one machine is connecting and installing the
snap-in and all the others aren't. Is there something that I have missed,
either in configuring the clients or the CRM server itself.

Data Migration Framework problems
Hi,
Sorry to post this again, but I've been looking all over trying to
solve this problem but no luck. I'm trying to migrate some data
(Accounts, Contacts and Activities) to
MS CRM 3.0 using the Data Migration Framework. I succeeded in migrating
the Accounts and Contacts and just over 600 out of about 7000
activities (the
activities are simple tasks associated with the accounts). I noticed
that all the non-migrated activities have status set to "Completed".
Moreover, when I change the status of those records to "In Progress"
(just to test) some of them succeed. Does anyone know why this
happens? Why does the Data Migration Framework fail on Completed
Activities? Also is there anyway to debug this as now it seems to fail
without any helpful error messages (I've had a look at the logs and
they don't point to anything useful)?Thanks very much in advance.

Error 8004280b: server was unable to process the request
Hi all,
I've created a workflow rule that calls custom assembly to create some
tasks activities.
Everything works fine in my testing environment (Virtual Machine Windows
2003 Server) but in production environment (Windows 2000 Server) nothing
works. Workflow monitor says: "8004280b Server was unable to process
request". Event viewer says: Event ID 16650
"Action {4D5DA4D2-38EA-DA11-AB8D-00804831A1E5} failed in step
{4B5DA4D2-38EA-DA11-AB8D-00804831A1E5} of process instance
{22D8AC42-40EA-DA11-AB8D-00804831A1E5}. Please view the paused rule in the
Microsoft.Crm.Workflow.Monitor for more information about the failure."
I have no idea how to fix it! Please can any one help

migrating from CRM 1.2 to new CRM 3.0 Server
Hello all,
We are using CRM 3.0 and recently a new company has been acquired by
our company , which uses crm 1.2. What is the best way to migrate data
from new company to our existing crm 3.0 ?
I can import accounts and contacts to our new system But what about
activities and history? How is it possible?
anyone having any comments?

Deployment Manager
I have CRM version 3.0. I can add users through the Web interface, but when
I open Deployment Manager - User Manager - myDomain - Select Users - All
task - Create new MS CRM user - to add a new user to CRM, no domains appear
in the domain drop down box, and therefore no users are listed from Active
Directory.
Is this by design, or is this a problem in search of a solution?

How to Use CRM Web Service to Mark a Service Activity as Billed
I was able to mark a service activity with statecode = 3 and statuscode = 3
using the following code:

However, all closed service activities were NOT marked as billed in the
process. So I decided to re-open those closed service activities, mark them
as billed, and then closed them, using the following code:

automatic resolving of e-mail addresses to CRM records
Hi,
We have a situation here that is pretty dum. When we sent an e-mail through
Outlook and save it to CRM, then some contact records are not automatically
resolved in the CRM e-mail window so they appear red.
We have alle the CRM users, but these users are also in the contactlist. How
does the resolving algoritm works? Alle the users have 2 e-mail adresses: a
full one and a short one. If I give the system users all the short one and
the contacts the full one, does CRM then resolves this...
At this moment, one unhappy victim every week resolves all the "red" items...
