    - Data Migration Framework v3.0 from ACT to CRM 3.0 Hello there I want to migrate ACT in to CRM 3.0. My company is trying CRM 3.0 implementation but we dont want to put in any initial costs of buying SCRIBE data migration tools. So we are trying out DMF to do this migration. My questions are: 1. Can i migrate ACT Accounts as CRM Marketing Leads? 2. If yes to previous Q, Then existing DMF ACT To CRM spreadsheet does not have the Data Mapping for Lead Table 3. Our ACT accounts are categorised in different groups based on the Industry, Can i migrate data as CRM Leads with same Industry specific groups? I have a very tight deadline to implement the above.     - Outlook Client not able to connect.. Dear All, I have installed my MS CRM v 3.0 on Windows 2003 SBS. I am encountering the following two problems. 1. When I click on Reprots, it is prompting for Error msg "An Error has occured and contact your System Administrator." 2. When I install outlook client on my client OS (win 2000), I am not able to connect to CRM Server. Error Msg: "There is a problem in communicating CRM Server, please try again later, if the problem persist again contact your system administrator." How can I rectify this problem? Please advice.     - CRM 3.0 Desktop Client Install and SBS Monitoring Error I am working on the client installs for CRM SB on SBS 2003. Despite helpful assistance from this NG I have reached the point of calling Microsoft on one of my notebook installs. Before calling them, I thought I should attempt to get as many client installs completed as possible then look to get all my unresolved issues answered simulataneously. To date, I have 2 notebook installs complete and working and the 1 notebook install that is awaiting my MS call. In SBS, all but the users have been setup using the Power User template except my own, which used the Administrator template. To reduce confusion I will refer to the users below as follows: AdminUser - Me NBUser - Other working notebook user. DTUser - New desktop user. So I started installing desktop clients.....The first one appears to have installed correctly however when I log onto the domain with the user's credentials and Outlook is opened I get the "there is a problem communcating with the Microsoft CRM server" error. My corrective actions thus far have been: crmserver.domain.local added to Intranet zone in I All pop-up blockers have been disabled. XP firewall is disabled by default group policy. If I attempt to use the Web Client under the same DTUser account I am re-prompted for crendentials and not allowed access. Using my AdminUser domain login, and the DTUser's credentials for the CRM web client login, I have no problem getting in. If I modify DTUser's Intranet Zone security in IE to "Automatic logon with current username and password" both the web client and the Outlook client work with using my login. To add confusion to the chaos, NBUser's account (working) was created at the same time as the non-working desktop user, using the same Power Users template as mentioned above. Even stranger NBUser, while working fine on his notebook, experiences the same difficulties as DTUser, when attempting to login on using his desptop machine. Also, if I close the errors in Outlook an then select the CRM sections it appear to work fine...... I enabled monitoring in SBS and have been receiving the following error every 10-15 minutes ever since. http://CRM:5555/MSCRMServices request failed: Critical condition. HTTP Status: 400 Bad Request Response Time (msec): 0. (WMI Status: 0 ) Should I try moving CRM to a different ip in IIS. One that does not need the 5555 port? Is changing the entry in IIS and repointing the clients registry entries all that is required for this or does it require a re-install of the Server Application?     - How do I get an email out of in-progress? I just started learning to use queues. I've got email arriving in queues, and I can assign, and then have that user accept. Then it's in that user's in-progress. That's where I'm stuck. How do I get the email out of in-progress? What do I do when the email is processed?     - GrantAccessToExchangeMailRootAction Hi All, I am attempting to upgrade from CRM 1.2 to CRM 3, and I keep running into a roadblock. The setup goes very well until it reaches the action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Server.GrantAccessToExchangeMailRootAction. It then proceeds to stop making progress. The server is not frozen or anything, it just never gets past that point in the install. I end up having to kill the task in task manager.     - Duplicate SQL SPN I ran the crm advisory upgrade (to upgrade from 1.2 to 3.0) and I received an error regarding the uplicate sql server spn. I used ldp.exe to find the duplicate records and I used ADSI.exe to delete the duplicate record, and after that I restarted the SQL server and the ran the advisory tool again but the error was stiull there, furthermore the none of the users were able to log back into CRM.     - Limit entity access by Business Unit Hello All, Ok, this should be a simple one, but when attempting to set this up, it did not work. The structure I want to set up is the following: Root Business Unit Root Business Unit entities (contacts, cases...) 1st Sub Business Unit 1st Sub Business Unit entities 2nd Sub Business Unit 2nd Sub Business Unit entities Pretty simple, right? The permissions would be as follows: Users who belong to the root BU can see all entities throughout the system. Users who belong to a Sub BU would only have access to entities belonging to that Sub BU. I was under the impression that this was the built-in behaviour, but when I set this up, and logged on as a Sub BU user, I was able to view all entities.     - Exporting Marketing lists to Excel for mailing We have CRM 3.0, and I am trying to export a Marketing list to Excel with names, addresses etc to be forwarded to a mailing house, for a catalog mailing. I have 745 added members to the list from leads using criteria and manual picking (out of 4500 leads). When I goto export to excel, first try was using static, but it only exports the 3 default columns, not address. I can't find the view for marketing lists to modify to add more columns. When I try to export using Dynamic worksheet and pick address columns, the resulting list in excel is ALL 4500 leads, not just the 745. This seems to me to be a bug. Am I missing a step?     - create a relationship to either a contact or a company Hi I notice that a case has a very nice feature. It has a single field customerid and two relationships mapping customerid to either a contact or a company, thus allowing the user to specify either a contact or a company when filling in the customer field. I've tried this with a custom entity and (not surprisingly) it fails when I try to create the second mapping with the error that the schema name is already in use.     - Formatting Section Layout Column Format -- options disabled Hi, my question is related to formatting the Main Form for an entity. I want certain sections to have the three column format. However, when I click on Section Properties, it shows all options for choosing the Column Formats as disabled. The 2-column format, with the Variable Field Width, is the default and the only option I seem to be able to use right now. My issue is that when installing CRM on my Small Business Server, it installs CRM Small Business Edition. Will this be a problem when the Integration comes out?     - Follow up activites In ACCOUNT, LEAD and CONTACT records there is an option in the toolbar to create a follow up activity. If I fill in the new activity in the form assistant and press SAVE, the new activity gets saved with no information in the fields. If I press SAVE AND OPEN, a new form comes up with all of the fields blank, forcing me to fill in everything including my name and the contact or lead name from scratch. This makes no sense to me.     - CRM desktop client causes Exchange problems When I install the CRM client Outlook constantly (every 30 seconds) pops up a ballon saying that "Outlook is trying to retrieve data from the Exchange Server" When I delete and recreate my profile (effectively disabling the CRM client), I do not have a problem. We would prefer that these entities are not owned by a single User but a group of Users. Here is my situation: My company is offering flat rate monthly tiered services that are based on the number of workstations and servers in a network. So a client would base a base subscription fee plus a fee based on the number of servers and workstations in the network. For this they would get a certian number of hours of included service based on the number of total devices they have.     - CRM v1.2: difference in report presentation Hi all, After having added a new value to a custom picklist field I rendered the report in CRM v1.2 that includes that value. To my surprise the graph in the report didn't show the label of the field, although it did display the related numeric value (a percentage) next to the graph. The graph is intented to display the number of records per value of the picklist. Next thing I did was opening the same report in Crystal Reports (Prof. Ed.) and I used the function in the menu 'Database > Verify Database' to update the report (since the database had been changed). Then I rendered the report again and the label was included (displayed next to the % in the graph). However, after saving to new version of the report to CRM and rendering it again, the label still wasn't included. Is someone familiar with this issue that the same report gives different results in presentation in CRM compared to Crystal Reports (leaving out labels)? What is the resolution?     - Email HUNG in OUTBOX After upgrading to 3.0, email is sitting in users OUTBOX and won't send. Ironically, the emails weren't email that were being tracked in CRM, they are internal emails between staff members.     - Problems creating products Hi there, after a longer break, I started testing the CRM 3.0 again. The main reason was the German-Languageversion :-) I have installed this version but now I have a big Problem: I have created several roles (even one with all permission - was a real "click-nirvana"!!) and user with standard roles. But all Users can=B4t create a product. Neither within a Quote (exisiting or write-in) nor in the main menu. Hope someone could give me a hint, how I could solve this Problem. I forgot: In the Main Menu there is no button "New" under the product site and if I click on "New" in a quote I site-error appears. I tried it throw the webservice (asp-site).     - Calendar Missing in Outlook Client When Iâ??m logged on with an account that has CRM administrator rights, I can see the Calendar under Workplace in the Explorer interface but not in the Outlook interface. When I'm logged on with an account that does not have CRM administrator rights, I can't see the calendar in either interface. Thinking that this was a security issue, I went to Settings >> Business Unit Settings >> Security Roles >> Salesperson (which everyone is a member of) and looked for controls for the Calendar. The only control I could find was on the Service Management tab. I set all the setting to Green (organization) but the Calendar still doesnâ??t show up for non-administrator users. Helpâ?¦.     - improve text formating features in text fields The word editing facilities in the notes sections are very very limited. E.g. no bullit list option, only very basic copy/past functionality, you can only add one attachment per note.etc.etc. Is it possible to imprve this?     - Creating entity problem Hello, something strange happens, When we try to create a new entity as a crm administrator, the system responds that "An error has occured, contact your system administrator" in a web dialog box. I'm able to create, modify and delete attributes in existing entitites. This problem occurs in 2 different environments: we have installed the Microsoft Technology Demonstration Toolkit CRM 3.0, whe we create a new entity, the error pops up and we have a CRM 3.0 deployed at a production environment and the same error pops up.     - corrupt mail in crmmail folder Whenever i do a backup of my exchange 2003 server (using Symantic's Backup Exec) i get the warning, shown below, everytime the crmmail folder is backed up. (I am using Mcafee GroupShield as my excahgne virus scanner) The interesting thing is that the message that is corrupt was not a CRM mail. Upon further inspection, there are hundreds of emails in the mailbox. i always understood that the mailbox was just for passing emails through and there should never be any messages in the mailbox.     - Error when re-assigning case I sometimes encounter an irritating error, when I try to reassign a case. If the case has activities - eg. e-mail activities - that have been closed, then I'm not allowed to reassign the case. I get the following error message: "Activities that have been closed cannot be assigned to another user". But I don't want to assign the closed activities. I only want to assign the case.     - OnSave function - Lookup values being truncated in Contacts Hi all, I am currently returning a value from the Parent Customer ID field in Contacts using OnSave . These values are being passed into a Web Service and onto another database. Code below: var lookupItem = new Array; lookupItem = crmForm.all.parentcustomerid.DataValue; if (lookupItem[0] != null) { var sAccountID = lookupItem[0].name; } The Problem I am getting is when I return a value from the lookup like "A & E Builder", the string is truncated and I am left with 'A'. Does anyone no a workaround for this? I really need to return the full text value as it appears in CRM. Dear all,
We want to do a new installation of CRM3.0 on a new server. How to migrate
data from 1.2 to 3.0 ?

(1)Somebody suggested to use data migration tools. I don't like it because I
have experienced before (when I migrate Goldmine to CRM 1.2). It is very
headache and time-consuming.

(2)Somebody suggested to do a new installation for CRM1.2 and upgrade to
CRM3.0. Does it mean I can copy the database of 1.2 to a new server and
install CRM1.2 ?

I would actually first upgrade your existing system. Then look to migrating
to the new hardware. With v3, the DB is a lot easier to move to a new
server (backup/restore and point to the new server via Deployment manager).
As for the web server, just install on the new seerver and point to the
existing DB.
