I've found that when trying to merge 2 really large items, ASP crashes and a
rollback ensues ending with the Service /Application Unavailable message.
These would be contacts with 10k activities, Accounts with hundreds of
sub-accounts, etc. This also happens with reassigning user records for users
with hundreds of thousands of associated records. Merging works fine with
smaller records however. Any ideas? Thank you.

ten thousand activities on one contact? Well you may be hitting either a
program limitation or timeout

this sounds like an issue you should log with microsoft support. I have
never heard of anyone using crm with data like this. Can you provide more
information from your crm web server event logs and also the hardware spec
of the servers?

Hi John. Actually, I did log this with MS support, they have no clue but I
suspect it is indeed a timeout issue. It looks like it is working for a
period of time then you see the rollback in SQL and in the browser, get a
server / application error. This is especially bad when trying to remove a
parent company from an account or reassign records when a user leaves, not to
mention merging of course. Are there optimum settings for the web server
timeout that I could be using for high # records? Thx.
