Creating an email with an attachment
I wish to create and send an email to the contact for an opportunity or
lead after it has been created but that email has to include a file
attachment.
It appears that email templates are incapable of doing this so I have
been looking at the CRMEmail object API and it still seems to be
impossible. All I want to do is to attach a button to the opportunity
form which will say 'send documentation' that should then launch a
process that will automatically create an email from a template attach
the current documents and send it. Is this possible in CRM through
either the workflow, templates or API? (or for that matter any other
method?)

Using MS CRM with Hosted Exchange
Is it possible to run MS CRM in-house and continue to use a Hosted Exchange
architecture ? I suspect it would require an additional Exchange server
in-house and on the same domain as the CRM/SQL Servers, and would Small Bus
Server 2003 Premium be capable of providing this as a cost-effective
solution? Are there restrictions built into SBS in this respect ?
The next logical step is to see if a hosted exchange provider
(multi-tennanted) can work with a different hosted MSCRM provider (dedicated
box per client, presumably) to provide a full CRM/Email solution to a client.
My experience so far is that HExch providers do not do CRM, and HCRM
providers do not do HExch - hence this scenario.
Any thoughts / experiences on this ?

Auto-Populating Field in CRM
I have added a field to the Accounts table for capturing the Moody's Credit
Rating. Currently, we have this information stored in a different system. I
would like to do a nightly refresh of the information from our external
system directly into CRM via SQL Server.
Are there any issues I need to consider writing a script to perform this
action. Keep in mind that I will only be updating a CUSTOM field on the
addressbase table. Specifically, I am wondering if there are any triggers on
the table that might cause issues if I update these items. I would like to
do this directly through the database (which I realize is not technically
supported, but we are talking about a custom field here), and not need to
resort to the much slower SDK route.

attaching documents that are "links" (to the real files)
Hi,
I made a link to a document file and attached the "link file" to a ..let's
say account note to see what happens. Uploaded that. Seems that the original
file (the document itself) gets uploaded, not the link to it.
Someone asked for the possibility to load and distribute only links to
documents, the latter residing in a central folder structure (on an a server
accessible to people..).
Any suggestion on how to handle this?

External Email Routing
I'm looking for a workaround to resolve the issue with CRM only receiving
from external emails.
We have multiple support email addresses for our customers and I could set
up multiple queues to receive their emails but it will be a monitoring
nightmare for our small admin team. So, I thought I could have all the
support addresses routed to one single support address and have one queue in
CRM. Unfortunately routing to the one email address means it becomes an
internal email which it doesn't recognise.
Does anyone know of a way to set up an email address as external so that I
can route all support emails into the one queue. It would make monitoring
easier and it would save having to change all our customers to using the one
email address.

Post Installation problems
I have installed CRM as per the CRM Implimentation training guide, I have
restarted the SBS 2003 server, logged back in as the CRM Admin login, checked
that all the correct services have loaded and are running.
I now open a browser and point to the crm website, I get a CRM error message
with the following information: "An error has occurred. For more information,
contact your system administrator."

Publishing error
Can login to CRM application without any issues, can login create Account,
contacts no problem.
We added custom fields using CRM deployment manager without any issues.
Then we try and publish from Deployment manager.
The step where you Click Add to select your CRM server, nothing happens and
software hang....
If anyone else has a fix for this issue please help

Steps To Create a Microsoft CRM SMTP Subdomain for Exchange
This is my scenario ..
In crm server I have an Exchange 2000 (myuser@crm.mycompany.com.mx)installed
that only sends emails and I have the Exchange 2003 Organization
(myuser@mycompany.com.mx).
I want to use the option Creating a Microsoft CRM SMTP Subdomain described
in IG but it doesn't work.
1.- We added a subdomain (crm.mycompany.com.mx) where i access crm web
interface.
2.- We added a two-way trust relationship between exchange domain and crm
domain.
3.- We added a secondary SMTP (@crm.mycompany.com.mx) in Defaul Policy
Properties of Exchange 2003 Organization.
4.- We added a secondary SMTP address for each CRM user in Exchange 2003
Organization.
5.- We install CRM Router in both servers.
Could somebody explain me which are the requeriments or the right steps to
use Creating a Microsoft CRM SMTP Subdomain option because I think I'm
missing something but I cant find out what it is .... am i missing some
configuration ? .. please help ...

email in queue duplicate itself automatically
I set a queue in the crm with an CRMEmailEnabled mailbox. When a message come
in the queue, this message will duplicate itself in the CRM queue every 4
minutes and every 27 minutes. Did someone experience the same problem ?

Cannot add new contact
All of a sudden our CRM Test server will not allow us to add a Contact. When
you are in the Contacts screen, you click New Contact. It will open the
appropriate view and allow you to complete the information. However, when
you click the Save and/or Save and Close button, we get the error messag:
Query Builder Error - No Attribute - it has buttons Try Again or Cancel.

I have made the CRM Security service dependent on the SQL service but still
doesn't want to open.

Reassign a user's records in bulk
I would like to be able to reassign a user's records in
bulk to a new user. I went to Help in MSCRM and found an
entry titled "Reassign a user's records in bulk". When I
get to the step 3 where I am to find "Reassign Records"
under the "Actions" menu, I do not find this option. I
tried with an account that is added to the System
Administration Role. I also tried with the account that
is the System Administration account for our MSCRM
installation.
I would appreciate any help with getting access to this
option.

Reports lockdown via security roles

How can we lock out CSR's from accessing reports? I have 20 suite licenses,
but 11 of my users are low level support personel who do not need to see any
reports what so ever and I do not want them to have access to it.

Problems with exchange - mails incomplete
Hi .. I'm having this problem a week ago and i have no idea what's going on
.
I had a test environment with CRM, SQL and Exchange all in the same server
and it worked ok ... but now I'm trying to pass CRM to production
environment the only change is that we want to use Exchange Organization
Server ..
I uninstall the Router from the CRM server and install it in the Exchange
Organization Server and it doesn't work correctly ... I use some rules to
send emails and they are send but incomplet ... the contact only receives
the first letter of the Body Email ..
CRM server and Exchange Server are NOT in the same domain .. do i need to
configur something in Exchange server ?
What am I missing ? ...

Some people can't promote from sent items
We have one user that's getting an error trying to promote from sent items:
"An error occurred while trying to promote the e-mail. Try again."
Now, I've read enough threads to know that it can't / shouldn't be done.
Problem is, everyone else can promote from their sent items, including me.
I haven't gotten into checking his Outlook settings, Office 2003 updates, or
Windows XP updates, but I wanted to get a 'heads-up' from the general

Error opening objects in Sales for Outlook XP SP3
Hi there!
Our customer has clients with Windows XP and Outlook XP SP3. We have
installed Sales for Outlook and everything worked fine.
Now, as the Sales for Outlook User want's to open any Object (e.g. Accounts
-> doubleclick on an account) he receives an error message "An error has
occored. For more Information contact your system administrator."
By the way, the user has enough rights to open the object and everything
works perfect when we use the webclient.
Has anyone a good idea?

we are trying to solve an issue where we need to track a Contact's "role" to
an opportunity...a contact can be associated to more than one opportunity so
defining the role at the Contact level wont make sense and it seems that we
can't customize the ContactOpportunity object (which links contacts to
opportunities) ; does anyone know whether this will be customizable in v2-0?
if not is there any way to customize the ContactOpportunity object? thanks!

Realistic Data Migration Costs
A client of mine was quoted $4,300 to migrate 2,500 records from a
system which could export to .txt files. The only consideration from
a straight import data view point, was that each Contact was related
to an Account. The only details which were required to be imported
were contact details (address, phone, mobile etc) and the association
with the parent company.
To my way of thinking, this is a serious design flaw of MSCRM if it
requires this amount of work, to simply show the link between the
contact and the account - am I missing something??? It would have ben
far cheaper I know to use Scribe. I would rally, really really
appreciate some feedback here on what the implications of using the
DMF are, and if there are some guidlines. If you have 1,000 otherwise
flat records to import, but need to import their Account relationship
- how long would this take?

CRM Request timed out
I installed CRM and it works well but i have one problem that when i come to
office every day or after 1 or 2 hours and when i check the CRM server it
stoped and when try to start it http://crmweb then it hangup for long time
and mostly i get error after shut down and restart server it works well or i
refresh is many times. i dont know what is wrong with this?

Button functionality in RS Manager
Apologies right away if this is a dumb question - I've cast about t'internet
looking for any references and, not finding them, wound up here looking for
assistance.
Working in RS Manager, having uploaded report files, when trying to set a
shared data source, clicking the Browse button results in nothing
happening - no status bar action, no spinning IE globe, just button down,
button up, no actions firing.
Seems to be the same with the Change Location button when creating a linked
report too, if that shows any consistency.
If I edit a folder and click Move, I get the tree view of my folders and am
able to move a folder, which I'm guessing is using the same kind of action.
Any thoughts, greatly appreciated.

SFO client install error
hello...
i have got a problem that the shortcuts and the crm icon in the mail box
will not show out when i install the SFO client software and I got the error
message
"Setup has failed because of an error. Setup unable to install the .msi file
for Microsoft CRM SFO"
I have tried to uninstall the software many time, even i changed the Domain
but the problem still happened.

i am trying to modify the frequency for the MSCRMDeletionService...there is
a registry value in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM\ key named
DSRunInterval. one of our servers has this value as a REG_SZ (string) value
while another server has it as a DWORD (number) value ; does anyone have an
idea what format this value should be? and also is it based on seconds?

Different Contact forms in the one deployment
A client has a need to use different forms for two separate divisions,
as they use very different terminology.
Is this at all possible in one Server deployment? Understand you
could have two deployments, but they need to be able to amalgamate the
information.

Create new Letter templates
Hi All,
Currently I am creating new templates by:
1. Do a letter merge from Slaes for Outlook choosing blank template
2. Save the letter template (as a .dot) into the directory
c:\Documents and Settings\<network login>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates\Mail Merge
3. Use the insert merge field on the toolbar to insert the fields you want
in the letter.
4. Cancel the Sales for Outlook merge and then it is available.
Questions:
1. Is there an easier way to do this ?
2. How do I add extra fields/custom fields to the "insert merge field" list

When one select the Contact table and the field, Birthday, the only condition
that works is â??Contains Dataâ??. All other forms of a Birthday query state, in
grey text, â??No Contact records are available in this view.â?? The text appears

Setting Up Sales Processes
BACKGROUND: I'm wanting to create sales processes that have NO ACTIVITIES
automatically assigned . . . I just want the reps to update the sales stage
as it moves along. And I know the sales rep can manually move it along even
if there are activities, but I would have to create a lot of unnecessary
"pseudo" activities.
QUESTION: So, how would I go about creating a 4 stage sales process that is
COMPLETELY dependant on the sales rep, not whether or not activities are
done? When I tried to do this by creating a 4 stage manual process, the
opportunity was just automatically updated all the way through to the end
because there were no "wait" conditions.

Appointments cannot sync
When I create an appointment in SFO (via CRM Appointment button), I get an

Need Help with Conflicting Fonts
Currently my sales reps use 40 different email templates to communicate with
prospects and clients. Additionally, these HTML email templates use Verdana
- 10pt. Font.
We choose this font because it is easier to read than the other fonts.
The problem is that when my sales reps try to modify/personalize the email
template prior to sending - the have to resize and reformat the font of what
they entered.
My questions are as follows
1. What is the default font and pt. size for email templates in MSCRM?
2. Is there a way to set the default font and pt. size for all emails to
10pt. Verdana?

IIS reset (iisreset) causes workflow to enter paused state
I am getting a paused state on my very first workflow call when posting a url
to the web server when I do an iisreset on the server. I realize this code
has to compile, but I believe it may be compiling for too long and therefore
CRM WF is timing out. How do I get around this issue.
Note: After the first url call to the web server, everything works fine ---
until another iisreset.

Change Cascade Behavior for Assign/Share in CRM2.0 - Your input ne
I have read through postings in the newsgroup and also talked in person with
a few partners on problems with current product behavior with Assign, Share
or Set Parent operations. The new user gets access to all related records
that is not what is desired in many situations (closed orders, opportunities,
quotes, appointments shouldn't change owners for example).
We are in the midst of considering a design change for this behavior. I
would like to solicit your feedback to help us resdesign the behavior to meet
majority of customer needs.
Do customers want to change cascade behavior as a matter of policy for their
business? Eg - When an account gets reassigned, opportunities don't. When an
account gets reassigned, only active/open related items get assigned. etc..
Or
Do customers want to change cascade behavior more on case-by-case basis. Eg
- if a user X leaves, their accounts A, B & C gets reassigned without any
related records, accounts D & E gets reassgined along with all open related
records...
Unless there is a strong feedback against it, we currently are considering
the designs for first case above as the second case has broader change impact
and ease of use concerns (would end-users be happy with having to make this
choice everytime they want to assign or share a record?)

our accounts. That is, we need to be able to prohibit certain accounts
from being scheduled for an activity during particular time periods.

Looking for help...I can't send e-mail using CRM web client
I'm having a problem with trying to send e-mails vie the CRM web client.
When I try to send the e-mail I get a pop-up with the message in bold
"Unexpected Error" "An error has occurred. For more information, contact
your system administrator". I've checked the event logs, no errors are
showing up in either my CRM server or my exchange server.
I'm lost, new to CRM. Any help or ideas is appreciated.

Workflow not working
Hi,
I seem to have a problem with workflow, it is a new installation installed
as per the book. The problem is that the worksflows I have created do not
show up in workflow monitor and also don't seem to work.
I can create the workflows OK, I can activate them, I can get Workflow
monitor to start but it report no activity at all.
I have restarted service several times and even rebooted the server complety.
I have no errors reported and nothing in the event viewer ??
The only thing I can think of which has contributed to this may be the fact
that I have set up SQL Mail to report on status of jobs etc on the SQL Server
and that involved a bit of fiddling with login ID's etc to get it to work.
As this is the first time on this server I have tried workflow I do not know
if it has ever worked

Is it possible to add additional fields to the Mail merge fields list when
doing a mail merge in Word? I can access most of the fields I need for the
mail merge but not all of them. Can someone please shed some light on how

Formatting phone numbers in CRM via background service
I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to get a whole lot of phone numbers
formatted correctly in CRM. We have ~90,000 accounts and ~110,000 contacts
in our database. Looking at the account and contact schemas, I'm seeing 24
fields that may need to be formatted:

Now, pulling all of these records with 12 fields each using a CRMQuery
object (SDK) is pretty much out of the question. Every query I put together
either times out or throws some other error. What I want to know is if I can
go straight into the AccountBase, ContactBase, and CustomerAddressBase tables
and modify the values there instead of pulling/updating them using a CRMQuery
object. I would set this job up as a Windows service and let it run every
few days to keep all of the phone numbers formatted correctly.
So...are there any potential problems doing it this way, or should it be fine?

Anyone out there using C360's activity summary?
There is an update for the activity summary that contains
more columns - I installed the upgrade on my server and
the web ap on the server works fine, but I can't get it to
work on the client outlook or client web ap. When I click
on summary from the client, I get "Access to the
path "c:\inetpub\wwwroot\Custom\c360
\UserPreferences\{F254BFF5-19FD-4F80-879E-
ACE55B131B83}.config" is denied." When I go out to this
path - this file isn't there. There is another file
{different GUID}.config. Anyone have any ideas?

copy customizations from CRM test to CRM Production
so far I have been able to make succesful customizations to the CRM Test
version where I was trying the various tools.
Since all my customizations were under the microsoft framework so I was
trying to get the same moved over to CRM Production in a way that I do not
have to do them over again.
Is there a tool that I could utilize for the same.
Also, by doin so would also the data under test be moved to Production, if
not, is there a way to go around with the same.

Resolving Case Error - "An error has occurred ... contact sys admi
Web client - One of my users is having problems resolving cases. The error
message dialog appears with the following message:
"An error has occurred. For more information, contact your system
administrator."
I've checked the event viewer on the server but can't find any further
information. The user is in the same Business Unit with the same Role as
other users who can resolve Cases without a problem. The user owns the case
that he's trying to resolve.
We've run a full Publish through deployment manager and IISRESET to ensure
all customizations were published.
The user runs the web client through a Citrix terminal so I got our Citrix
administrator to clear the session cache, still no joy. The user has also
rebooted his terminal.
Any ideas?
