Trying to install SFO (Version 1.2) and it fails when attempting to install
MSDE. I get the follow error: "Set has failed because of an error. Setup was
unable to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (sp3a). Install it
seperatly and restart setup.exe."

I am running Windows XP SP2. I have tried disabling the windows firewall but
still fails.
The CRM server is up and running and I can access it via the http://<crm
server name>.
Thanks

Yes. I had it installed on this machine but could not get "offline" to work.
Read other post, tried suggestions, last resort was to reinstall SFO. I
removed SQL2000 MSDE using "Add / Remove" programs, deleted the database and
removed registry entries for SQL. Is there something still hanging around
that needs to be removed before re-installing?

Thanks

Reg,

I had a strange situation where XP SP2 did not update the Data Drivers
properly. I reinstalled MDAC (?) manually, then everything installed fine.
Don't know if this is your problem, but it is what fixed my situation.

Let me know if this helps...

Have Fun with MSCRM

Ok. I've reached a point of total frustration. I've been trying to get SFO
installed for the last few days but can't get past MSDE error. I have
re-imaged my pc back to factory defaults so I'm stating with a virgin machine
with Windows XP pro SP2 + MS Office pro. I have added my domain account to
the local administrator group. I can't believe it but the SFO still fails to
install MSDE. Is there something on the CRM server that would hinder the
installation? I have succesfully installed SFO on another machine using a
different user account so I know the CD is good.
What am I missing?
Thanks

Reg,

I once had a similar error and frustration; eventually traced it to MSDE
prerequisites:-

You must have the network component File and Print Sharing for Microsoft
Networks installed and enabled
on your PC

Then check the Server service is started on your PC

These may have been disabled manually or through group policy

Hope this helps!

REG

Installation completed successfully!!! Not sure what the resolution was but I
verified that file and print sharing were enabled (they were) so I unchecked
file and print sharing, rebooted, re-checked (enabled) file and print
sharing, rebooted and the installation completed. Go figure.
Thanks everyone for your input and assistance.
