Hello!

I have following OS: CRM 1.2 & IIS application server (Windows Server 2003),
SqlServer 2000, SP3 (Windows Server 2003)

Everything works OK before I run following updates/hotfixes from Windows
Update -site to both servers.
First I run updates to DB-server following order:
KB890175,KB871250,KB885835,KB885836

Next I run updates to CRM-application server following order:
KB890175,KB891711,KB871250,KB885835,KB885836,KB885881,KB883935,KB824151

After reboot servers, I got a Service Not Running error when I try to
connect to Microsoft CRM.

Then I tried to start the MSCRM Security Service (Log On as: Local System
account) I get the following error:

ERROR 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a
timely fashion.

I have tried hint from MS support site:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;870167

Even option 3 do not work.
When unregistering service I got error:
Service unregistered!
-2147467259 (0x80004005) Description: Unspecified error
Unspecified error

When registering service:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft CRM\Server\bin>CrmSecurityService.exe -r -s

I got error:
Registration failed!
-2147023824 (0x80070430) Description: The specified service has been marked
for deletion.
The specified service has been marked for deletion.

-2147467259 (0x80004005) Description: Unspecified error
Unspecified error

I tried to remove installed updates/hotfixes from CRM application server,
but it do not help.

I have red CRMs news groups related CRM security Service but there is no
help to my problem.
What next I should try?

Best regards,

\Lars

Our MSCRM Security Service runs not as local system, but as a specific "crm
service" account. Might want to check his permissions.
Would also check that SQL Server Agent is running.

Hi Lars,

I have the same problem! After Installation of the new Updates and reboot,
the crm security service didn't start again!

I think one of the updates does anything wrong! Would be good to know which
one!?!?!?

Please tell me if you know the answer!

Hi

Same problem here. It seems as if the crmsecurityservice isn't able to
start if it runs af Localsystem. We beleve that it's becuse Localsystem
isn't allowed to login to a SQL Server on another server after a
security update.

If the service is started as "Admin" it starts perfect. Ofcourse the
service can't run as "Admin", so we are looking for som info on what
rights are needed. Any ideas?

With the service started we now run into some security issues. We get
this error:

Event ID: 2

MSCRM Platform Error Report:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Error: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.

Error Message: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.

The funny part is that we do not log in as ANONYMOUS, but somehow the
CRM system think we are!!!

Ideas?

Best regards

Thomas

you guys should get in touch with MBS Support and highlight this as this
could be a serious issue if a security hotfix is causing this issue

Re: MSCRM Security Service do not start by Lars

Lars

Hello again!

I got it working again!! But I'm afraid don't know what was problem.
What I did:
After few days I tried unregister MSCRM Security Service. I'm not sure was
unregistering then successfull, but I reboot server and regist MSCRM Security
Service again.

Useing:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft CRM\Server\bin>CrmSecurityService.exe -r -s

It seems to regist successfully. I reboot server again and after boot I
tried CRM with IE and it works!!!

When I try again unregister and register and boot it still works!

All hotfixes/updates where installed when tried unregister and register
MSCRM Security Service.

I really don't know why i could not get it work before, really mystic!!!

Best regards,

\Lars

Hi Lars

Sounds great that you can get it running. We will try the same tonight
and see how it goes.
Are you running the service as Localsystem?

Best regards

I have identical situation. I have tried the unreg and re-reg of CRM
Security Service as described earlier in this thread. No luck for me.

If you have any more info, please post.

Also - TD - did you try this? Did it solve your issue?

Thanks, TGR

Guys I had a similar problem with the Microsoft CRM Security Service.
What had happened is that my servers had rebooted the last night a
the UPS was not able to support the load.

Check if your DNS service is running on the Domain Coontroller fro
admin tools --> DNS. Mine were not. Whwn I did start them, thing
were fine
