    - Bulk Data Load We are loading a bunch of hospitals from around the US into CRM as Account objects. We have an autonumber field that was added so that each hospital is assigned a visible code (e.g. 1234-5678) that makes it easier for hospitals that call in to get service. The problem is that the bulk import does not correctly increment the auto-number field. I can map to it and set the values manually in a CSV file but CRM ignores these and just inserts the same number for several thousand accounts. Any ideas why Bulk Import is doing this?     - Max length of description on Appointement en CRM 3 ? We adjusted the Max Length for the Description field in the Appointment record from the default of 2,000 to 5,000. When we use the web client we are able to save appointments that have 5,000 characters. However, when i go offline with my Laptop Client and then try the same thing the appointment form closes but there is a hidden error message behind it stating "The length exceeds the max length of it will be truncated". When you open the record back up instead of having 5,000 chars, you only have 2,000, i lost most of my text ?     - Auto Fill territory based on picklist Hello, I was asked to create a new text field (called sales rep) for the migration of data from GP 9 to CRM 3 (sales rep field in GP is based on the initials of the salespeople). I was recently asked to change this field to a picklist in CRM. They would also like the territory field to autopopulate when a sales rep is selected from this picklist. Here is my dilema: 1. In CRM, I created the territories based on the name of the sales rep, not his/her initials. I don't even think using initials is a good idea, but they are using them in GP. 2. If I create a picklist, how do I get the data from the original sales rep field into the new sales rep picklist? Workflow? They want to use 2 way integration for accounts (GP and CRM) so I want the sales rep fields to match. I am afraid that I am missing something here or that I am making this more difficult than it needs to be. Has anyone had a similar request? I could really use some guidance! Thanks in advance.     - Edit product cost/price on the fly Despite the blurb, CRM seems to be very product-focussed. As a service-based company we'd like to use CRM to pre-define a "product" (e.g. a training day, or an event) so that users can pick from a standard list. However, the nature of the business means that each discrete supply of a "product" is going to incur different costs, and attract a different sales price, as it is tailored to client needs. Is there a way of being able to divorce the "product" from the fixed Price List, or at least to edit the cost/price information associated with each individual instance of the "product", without resorting to the completely free-text entry option when adding an item to a quote? So far it seems that if you use a pre-defined Product then it's tied to its Price List, and you simply can't edit the values, which is a complete pain for businesses that essentially price each job as a custom activity.     - Calculated Fields We're helping someone with a relatively basic requirement for CRM, but they've thrown two awkward ones into the mix. The first of which is a desire to use some custom fields on an entity which are then automatically totalled. e.g. when they do a quote each item on the quote (free entry) has a custom field for the cost to the organisation of providing the service. On the main quote screen/report they need these to be totalled, in the same way that the built-in sell-price fields are. Is this possible without reaching for Visual Studio?     - Linking CRM/SQL Server to External Database I am looking for information of someone to talk to about how to "link" data from an external non-SQL Server d/b to the CRM SQL Server d/b. In our case we need to link our Oracle ERP database to SQL server (CRM database) as it contains about half of the info we need in our CRM. We can obviously create an interface between the two db's and "load" the data periodically but what I would rather do is use ODBC to map / connect the data in the Oracle db to the schema in CRM/SQL server so we don't have duplicate data (I would really prefer to have the Oracle be our one and only ERP solution and load ERP data into SQL server that then must be maintained in two locations). ODBC may not be the appropriate way to do this although I haven't come across anyway to go directly to Oracle so I am open to suggestions.     - Creation of entity attributes that don't meet the constraints in CRM Hi all, I've been testing code using ASP.NET and VB to push entities through to CRM. Typically I would expect the entities to be blocked if they don't meet the minimum criteria, however it appears that they go straight through to CRM. What's more interesting is that you cannot save the entity within CRM until those required fields are filled out. An example of the code is as follows. Assume that CreateAccount performs all the necessary actions to create an account in CRM, account has the required fields of new_businessname and new_businessaddress, and the method exits without any errors: Dim crmAccount as account = new account Dim boolSuccess as boolean = false boolSuccess = CreateAccount(crmAccount) ' boolSuccess is true. A programmatic check on attributes is one solution, however this results in maintainence every time the entity is modified in terms of requirements.     - CRM 3.0 The attachment is either not a valid type or is too large Hello, Email routing appears to be working in CRM properly. Outgoing emails are being sent with and without attachements. Incoming emails are only being tracked when a user presses the Track In CRM button on their Outlook CRM Toolbar. Emails without attachments are being tracked properly. However, if an email has an attachment, the following error comes up: CRM 3.0 The attachment is either not a valid type or is too large I have tried to test this with txt file that was 5 KB and it gave the same error message. I have verified on the server's registry that the maximum attachment size is set to 5MB (based on other postings) and made sure that the file extension is not included in the Blocked Attachment key. I am wondering if there might be some security issue I might have missed that may be preventing attachments from being tracked. I have tried search Google groups as well as the web for any insight but have come to a dead end.     - Email resolution based on security Based on BU's it is very possible that 2 contacts may have the same email address, but a user will only see one of the contacts based on their security. When an email from such a contact is received, it will not resolve and the users don't understand why it does not resolve since they only have access to see one contact with that email. When I attempt to use the fields in a workflow, specifically creating an email activity, it also inserts a time stamp for both the Start & End Dates.     - Campaign Activity - system aborted We have created multiple campaigns with a single campaign activity - channel = email. Our SMTP server is Exchange. We are on v3c, Outlook 2003 SP2. Our marketing lists range anywhere from 1,000 - 5,000 email addresses. We have attempted to clean all bad addresses so as not to hang the system up (quick campaigns abort when it meets a bad address). When we hit the Distribute Campaign button it builds anywhere from 20% - 80% of the email volume, then the system aborts. I have no idea why. ANY help would be appreciated.     - Outlook options not showing up for user I am in the process of training and testing with our CRM 3.0. I have installed either the laptop client or the desktop client on the user's machines. For training purposes I have also installed CRM on our training room pc's. I set the user's Outlook for that particular pc and then installed CRM with the user logged on, but I ran the installation under run as.     - Passing data from CRM to an ASPX application How can I pass data (The CRM form field values) from a CRM form to an external ASPX application running in the IFrame. I tried to use OnLoad Event, but I don't know how to communication with the fields of my external application (e.g. Copying the crmForm.all.[FiledName].DataValue to my ASPX application TextBox1.Text) Also, is there a way in which I can save the form field values in a local CSV file that could be used by an external reporting application. I need all this, because people here are using MS CRM Laptop Client for Outlook and they are connected offline most of the time. So they need a way to run reports while they are offline [This is a critical part of their work]. So I intend to design an ASPX application with embedded CrystalReports that will get data from CRM and produce the required reports. Hi,

Using the web browser is there any way to better control the order in which
windows appear. For example if you drill down through say Accounts /
MyAccount / Activities / MyEmail and then close each window to drill back up
to the accounts screen you have to find the correct window from the task bar
rather than it leaving those windows open.

Any ideas?
