Service Levels
Does anyone know if it is possible to add service levels to CRM 4.0? I can
see the atrribute "contractservicelevelcodes" under the "contract template"
customizable entity but it won't let me add or edit it. I have system admin
rights. Am I doing something wrong?
Any help appreciated.

SSRS, Sharepoint and CRM 4.0.
I've installed SSRS in native mode, installed CRM 4.0 and the CRM 4.0
Reporting. This installed all the reports into the native reportserver
database. Now after installing Sharepoint some month later I learned that
the SSRS cannot be in native mode and I need to create a new reportserver
database.
If I do this I loose all the reports belonging to CRM 4.0, which resides in
the old reports database.
Can I uninstall the CRM 4.0 Reports and then reinstall after adding the ned
reports database ?
Or any other solution ?

issue sending direct E-Mail
I am not able to send direct emails from our CRM 3.0 deployment.
- We use an SMTP service
- Sending email for a spceific account works fine. But sending "Direct
email" for a bunch of selected accounts does not work. I do not see any error
messages, but nothing ever happens.
- I verified that the bulk email service is up and running.
Any help would be greatly appreciated Tag: Loglevel for Emailrouter in CRM 4? Tag: 96879
Lookup / Search Address from Contact Form
It would be useful if, when creating or editing a contact that has a parent
record, you could select one of the addresses that is linked to the parent
record as the main address for this contact.
Ideally it wouldn't default to the main address of the parent, but instead
give an option of which address to link to when creating a contact that is
linked to an account.
This would be similar functionality to that which is found in the
quotes/orders area.

Prevent users from modifying local data groups
It would be useful if there was a security option to prevent users from
modifying their local data groups for offline synchronisation. In these
situations it would be generally a system administrator who would set up the
local data groups.

Connecting existing data
I'm in the beginning stages of finding the right CRM product for us. The big
determining factor is the opportunity to import in existing data from an

CRM Email Tracking Troubleshooting/Logging
Can anyone shed any light on how to troubleshoot email tracking issues in
CRM. We have several users who have no issues and others who have to manually
resolve every reply they receive to a valid contact in CRM. I see this is a
heavily asked question here in 1 form or another so my question is what steps
can we take to see what is going on and how to solve this?
What would be great/ideal:
When you click â??Track in Crmâ?? in Outlook a log entry is created in CRM
somewhere such as
Stage 1. Tracking record attempted to be created â?? matching token used
(email address: bgates@microsoft.com).
Stage 2 (Success): Matching token found (Contact: Bill Gates
bgates@microsoft.com)
Stage 2 (fail): Matching token not found (Checked Contact and Account tables
for matching email â?? no match found). Contact must be manually resolved to
correct record.
If this information was stored in the database or a log file somewhere that
we could review and see what the issue is this would really help resolve
this. Maybe this info is logged somewhere and if so please direct us to how
to find it or enable it for troubleshooting and resolution of this important
issue. Tag: Loglevel for Emailrouter in CRM 4? Tag: 96873
Users can give themselves any roles
I've got a custom role that has read only (user only) access to user settings.
This user role does not have assign role privilege.
However, If I go to personalize workplace on the general tab I can click on
"view your user profile here" and once on the user screen I can give myself
any role I want, which is obviously not good at all
Is this a CRM problem?
I would remove personalize workplace from the sitemap if I knew how, but I
already posted and nobody seemed to know
Any ideas?

Error when doing several accesses to CRM at the same time
Hello,
I'm running an application that has to import several contacts from a ERP
into MS CRM 3.0.
I call CRM's Web Services in order to do so, and then, since I do that with
a user from my root BU, I have to share the entity with other businessunits
(via WS aswell) for them to have access to it.
Everything works fine....
Except when my importer has several threads working, when it does, sometimes
(looks random) crm internally crashes (thats what I found after debugging)
sometimes when trying to share, others when trying to create. I once had this
problem, tried to solve it and when I tried to have SQL Server (2005), Shared
Memory disabled, everything was better and I wouldn't get the error. Now,
after 3 month, even with Shared Memory disabled, I started getting the error,
much more often.
Does it have anything to do with simultaneous accesses to CRM (or CRM->SQL
?!?).
Anyone has any clue about how to solve it, or any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Sharing contacts between business units
We have 2 groups of users assigned to 2 business units, within the same
parent unit. We need Group 1 in BU 1 to see Group 2's contacts for
marketing. Group 2 does not need to see Group 1's.
I was trying to do this with a security role marking the read on the parent,
but it's not working, so I want to go the share route. However, when user in
BU 2 creates a contact, then try to share, the team setup in BU 1 is not
visible.

Workflow - Why not generate Quote Products?
The new workflow engine is great, but cannot create quote product entities.
Am I missing something or is there a reason this cannot be?
The "Kit" functionality isn't the ideal solution for the scenario, and would
like to activate a workflow to fill a quote with pre-determined quote
products.
Another solution would be for "kit" to show all "kit products" somehow when
a quote is printed out / mail merged, but don't think this is possible.

Dynamics 4.0 and MSCRMimport tool authentication issue
Hi,
I have a need to export data from my CRM app and import it into our
development version - MS recently released their MSCRMimport tool
which would allow me to do this, but I can't get it to connect to MS
CRM 4.0 at all.
I input the crm server (http://crmserver/), and the AD name, username
and password (my own, as I am a systems admin for CRM), and the org
name (our company name), but all I get back is a '401 Unauthorised'
error message.
I am running this on a remote XP machine, and not the crm server
itself - should I be doing that? Or is there something I must enable
in the CRM app itself?
Cheers

CRM must accept service activities larger than employee work hours
When we try to search employee's available time for a service activity with a
duration that is larger than the employee's work hours, CRM can't find
available people, even if there is no activities scheduled for that employee.
For sample:
You have an activity with 24 hours of duration. An employee that works 8
hours per day, can accept that activity and execute it in 3 working days. So
if my employee have 24 hours sequentially available, but distributed between
his regular working time, than I can schedule that activity for him.
My suggestion is that Microsoft includes a check-box "This service activity
can be spplited among sequential working days.". The object model must also
include a property with that feature, so we can do it programmatically.
This will be extremely helpful, as we will not be limited to schedule just
service actiivity that fits in one day. Right now, there are dirty
workarounds for this, like creating one service activity per day to simulate
that approach. arghh!

Workflow share record
Sharing records with a Team or with single CRM users is a nice functionality.
But what I'm missing is the possibility to automatically trigger sharing,
for instance using workflow.

Migrating from CRM 3.0 to CRM 4.0 - Best Practices/ Server and Cli
I know that the below issue might have been raised tens of times, but
unfortunately I have not yet found clear steps on how to do it !!
We have been working with CRM 3.0 for the last 2 years or so.
Our CRM 3.0 is deployed on a Win2003 Server, SQL Server 2005.
Currently, we have plans to use CRM 4.0 so I have a number of things that
are rather worrying me and I am not sure how to go about them:
1- We will have a dedicated server with Windows2003 Server Installed and
a fresh SQL Server 2005 Installation. Apparently, I need to restore our
current CRM 3.0 database on this new server then install CRM 4.0. However, I
don't know the correct procedure, order or steps for doing so.
If any clear and detailed steps are available regarding this point I will be
really grateful.
2-We have added so many customizations to CRM 3.0 such as Custom Entities,
Custom Attributes to existing Entities and OnSave event scripts in some CRM
forms such as the Opportunity form.
Will these customizations migrate gracefully to CRM 4.0 or should we expect
problems? If so what should we do as one of these entities and attributes
contain important data.
3- Some CRM users are currently using CRM through the web interface,
however, the majority of our users (Specially those that travel a lot) are
using CRM through "CRM Laptop Client for Outlook" so that they can use their
CRM Offline or Online. Currently they are using Outlook 2003-SP2 deployed on
Windows-XP-SP2.
What should we do with these clients. Should we upgrade their environment to
Windows Vista with Office 2007 ? Or What?

CRM 4 : Very slow Outlook client
Hi Folks,
We are facing very slow Outlook response from crm client. I have tried to
use online and offline versions and both are very slow when creating
activities or other things. This was not a case when we used to use CRM 3.
What I mean with very slow is when I create new activity outlook goes to not
responding for a like one or two minutes.
This also case with our other computers as well. When I use web interface
that is responding smoothly, so the server is not bysy.
All the clients what we are runing are Vista laptops with at least 2gigs of
mem. Outlook version 2007.
This has to do something with setting on our client. Some times when I have
connection to server CRM client is telling all the time that it cannot
connect to the server. Regardles of this message I can use CRM client and get
information from the server.
Any ideas ?? Now usage is very frustrating.
Thanks,

Using the CRM 4.0 Outlook Offline Client
We have just upgraded from CRM 3 to 4. Honestly, we hadn't been utilizing
the previous version too much yet so we are all still learning.
Our problem is this: If I install the offline client on laptops for our
traveling sales people, they can only see accounts that they own when
offline. the trouble with that is that one of our travelers is a manager and
should be able to see all accounts. If I give him ownership, then the other
traveler would not be able to see his accounts when he is offline because the
manager is the owner.
Maybe we are not doing something right. We have the main business unit and
just users, no departments between. I also tried sharing an account but that
didn't work either.
Any help on security roles or settings would be quite helpful.
Thanks in advance.

2 questions re:Rollup 2 installation
I've seen a couple of comments regarding my first question, but I'm looking
for confirmation:
1. After installing the server portion of Rollup 2, do all client PCs have
to be updated before they attempt to use CRM? Or can I update the most
important ones first, then get to the rest ASAP?
2. Does the client portion of Rollup 2 have to be installed while logged in
as the end-user?
Thanks for any guidance!

Speed Issue, It's not... "Catching" just listen to this
Our server specs aren't supercomputer status, but they get the job done.
And it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue because once it loads
it's fast. The issue comes from the initial load. When you first
open it it takes forever to turn from white into something, almost like
it is trying to "catch" the SQL server, then when it "catches" it loads
quickly. I have the database on SQL2005/Server 2003 on one server, and
IIS (CRM Front End) running on SBS2003. I ran perfmon on both servers
while I tried to wait 1-2mins+ for it to load and nothing was held back,
in fact the computer almost looked idle. Any ideas?
Thanks,

How do I capture the value of an associated Lookup field?
I am trying to capture the value of an associated Lookup field so that I may
then parse it out to something usable in the Contact entity. I have tried
several methods for "crmForm.all.attribute.method" including "returnvalue",
DataValue" and "toString" without much success. They usually yield
"[object]" or "[object, object]".
Anyone have success capturing like this, or have a better way of achieving
the same end?

Getting revenue sum into report
We are new to CRM, and I have been tasked with working on reporting. We would
like to create a report that shows estimated revenue totals by Status Reason.
So we would see the sum of the estimated revenue for all opportunities that
are in the â??Business to be Closedâ?? stage, the sum for all in the â??Business
Closedâ?? stage, etc. I am guessing that I can take an Excel version of the
report and manipulate it, but there must be a cleaner way to do it, since one
week there may be 15 items in a particular stage, and next week only 3 items,
so where would we put the cell that sums the data?
As well, we want to have all of these status reasons on one report, so
having 5 reports for 5 stages probably wouldn't work either.

Configuration Wizard
I thought there used to be a wizard like tool that helped with the planning
of a deployment. Took the user through a series of questions, etc.. Does
anyone know if that is still available or where it can be downloaded from. I
can't remember if it was part of 1.2 or 3.0. Hopefully someone out there
knows what I'm referring to.

Price List Updates
Hi all,
anyone have any smart ideas on updating price lists ?
We sell software products so frequently have new version we want to add to
the product catalogue but the data in then is very similar to existing
products.
I dont want to edit the existing items as I need to keep them.
Imagine we have "XXXX Version 1" in there, and Version 2 has just been
released.
I want to add V2 as a new product, but it probably has the same or similar
description to V1.
I dont want to edit the V1 oproduct as I still need to sell that to some
customers.
I guess I need a "copy" button - so I can creat a copy of existing product
and just tweak the data.
