If its just for testing in a test environment then yes you can. In
production - it is not a supported environment.

I will dig out some instructions and post if you want.

Building CRM One Box Demonstration Machine

Updated: October 13, 2005

Disclaimer:

1. One Box Demo CRM configuration is NOT supported for production. It
is for Demonstration only

2. One Box Exchange and Outlook configuration is NOT supported for
production. It is for Demonstration only

OVERVIEW

This documentation gives you step by step guidance on how to install CRM
server and client on one physical or virtual machine for demonstration
purpose.

High Level Install Sequence

1. Install SBS

2. Install Outlook

3. Install CRM Server

4. Install Client

Required Software

1. Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition (This version comes with
SQL 2000 SP3a)

2. Microsoft CRM 3.0 Server & Client

3. Microsoft Outlook 2003

4. Optional - Microsoft VirtualPC

Required Hardware

1. Processor - 550 MHz or faster

2. Memory - 512 MB or more

3. Disk Space - 6 GB or more

INSTALL PROCEDURES

Install SBS

1. Install SBS 2003 Premium

a. Install Exchange 2003 as part of the setup

b. Install SQL Standard as part of the setup

2. Install SQL 2000 SP4

3. Go to Windows Update and install all the SPs and Hotfixes (You
might have to visit the windows update multiple times because not everything
gets installed the first time)

Note: Once the above configuration is done, you can run the CRM server setup
without further additional steps

Install Outlook 2003

1. Install Outlook 2003 per their instruction

2. Reboot

3. Go to Mail under Control Panel

4. Add a new profile

a. Specify the profile name

b. Select new email account

c. Specify Microsoft Exchange Server

d. Specify Exchange address

e. Specify mailbox account

5. Launch Outlook

6. Ignore the warning about incompatible issue between Exchange and
Outlook

7. Verify that the user can read and send email

8. Install Office 2003 SP1

Install CRM Server

1. Run SetupServer.exe

2. Type in the License Key - XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

3. Accept EULA

4. Choose Standard Install Mode

5. Name Organization - "Adventure Works Cycle"

6. SQM option - leave default

7. EDW checks - If everything is green or has one yellow warning, move
forward with the setup.

8. Reboot upon completion

9. Verify that the Server is working properly

Install CRM Client

Note: You can only install either the FAT/Laptop client or the LIGHT/Desktop
client on the demo box. You cannot install both. FAT client will give you
more functionality but it will run somewhat slower. Choose whichever you
need.

Steps to allow both Client to be installed on Server

1. Find mapisvc.inf in windows\system32. Rename it to
mapisvc-backup.inf

2. Copy mapisvc.inf from program files\common files\system\msmapi\1033
to windows\system32

Client Install (LIGHT/Desktop client)

1. Type RegEdit in the Run menu under the Windows Start menu

2. Navigate to My
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

3. Update the ProgramFilesDir to C:\Program Files\Microsoft CRM Client

4. Go create a folder called "Microsoft CRM Client" underneath
C:\program files

5. Run SetupClient.exe

6. Choose LIGHT/Desktop client setup

7. Accept EULA

8. Specify Server URL - http://localhost:5555

9. EDW Checks - Ignore the warning about Client cannot be installed on
Exchange

10. Reboot upon completion

11. Verify that the client is working properly

Client Install (FAT/Laptop client)

1. Run SetupClient.exe

2. Choose FAT/Laptop client setup

3. Accept EULA

4. Install prerequisites

a. MSDE 2000

b. MSDE Hotfix

5. Specify Server URL - http://localhost:5555

6. SQM option - leave default

7. Change the Default Install location to - C:\program files\Microsoft
CRM Client

8. EDW Checks - Ignore the warning about Client cannot be installed on
Exchange

9. Reboot upon completion

10. Verify that the client is working properly

Mike -

I've spent the last few days building a box almost identical to your
CRM Demo box described below. One, potentially significant difference,
is the machine is built on Win Svr 2k3 Enterprise, not SBS.

I've installed:
1) Win Svr Ent.
2) All Windows Updates
3) SQL Svr 2k5
4) Exchange 2003 Enterprise, SP2
5) CRM 3.0 Server
6) CRM Exchange E-mail router
7) Windows Sharepoint Services, SP2

The point of the machine is to demo CRM, Sharepoint, and integration
between the two. There are plans to expand the demo capabilities in the
future, at which time it's understood we may need addl. hardware.

I've run into a roadblock. I need to install a couple of Sharepoint
webparts that integrate Sharepoint with CRM. These webparts require
that MS Office, *including Outlook*, be installed on the Sharepoint
server.

Do you know what I can do to get Outlook installed on this box safely?
How much of your April 26 post is transferable to this situation?

Thanks,
Steve
