Dear All

I am importing data into MS CRM from ACT. In most cases this is not too much
of a problem (I'm using Scribe) However, in ACT our users have been making
full use of GROUPS.

For example, they have many groups of contacts setup for mass mailing. Some
contacts can be in several groups.

I cannot find any reference of "Groups" in MS CRM or any solutions where I
can group contacts together.

Has anyone any ideas on this?

Paul

I would like to know how you are importing data from ACT, I see Scribe, what
is that and how are you going about utilizing it.

Thanks

Brian,

Scribe is a 3rd party product that provides integration/conversion
utilities for MSCRM. I haven't used it but many have and have spoken
highly of it.

You could also use the DMF that comes with CRM to load data from ACT,
but Scribe provides an easier approach.

Hi Brian
My project to replace ACT with MS CRM demanded a fast track solution. Having
found the CRM install itself very straight forward I turned to the data
migration. This was proving to be by far the most time consuming part,
especially as ACT allows users to hack however they want into the data
model(?) of ACT.

After some searching and reading of this newsgroup I discovoured ScribeSoft
and their product Migrate.
I purchase the product and training and installed the software. Within a
very short time I was making practise migrations on our test environment
with some marked success.
I then discovoured that there were free templates on the Scribe communty
site and per chance I came across a template specifically for ACT to MS CRM.
This tool has saved me days, if not weeks, of work and worth every penny of
it's $995 price. What's even better, is that's it's not just a one off tool
for migration, it has many other purposes to where transfering data from one
format to another is required.

You can find Scribe Migrate on their website at www.scribesoft.com If you
ask nicely they'll even let you download a demo version for free which will
transfer up to 100 records.

If you need any further questions answer feel free to email me at

Importing ACT - use views! by Dave

Paul,

There's no GREAT answer for ACT! groups in CRM, but here
are a couple of pointers:

1) Use views extensively, and secure them via teams.
This will work for any groups whose membership can be
derived by existing data elements.

2) Add some Boolean group membership fields for those 'ad-
hoc' groups (or picklist fields with the group name as
selections.) Views can then be created using these
fields as filter criteria.

By "sharing" a view amongst a team (which can be only one
user), you prohibit other users from using that group.
So, user A can have views 1,2,3 and user B can see views
1, 4, and 5 for example. (You can create an Admin users
team and share views only with the admins to stop the
pesky system views you can't delete from appearing for
users.)

Using views and teams is how we're securing data, and
also providing two cuts of the data: geography and market.

Views are great!
