We have an ailing Sales Logix Server running MS SQL 2000
in our company. Since we are a MS partner we thought we
would go to MSCRM. We have it successfully deployed,
however, am not finding much about how to import
competive CRM's such as Sales Logix into MSCRM. Can you
do a simple import from one SQL to the new CRM SQL?

Anybody been down this road?

You basically have two choices: In the installation guide there is info about
using CRM's DMF (Data Migration Framework) which creates a staging database
that acts as an intermediary for you to get your data CRM-ready. You then use
SQL DTS jobs to import the data into CRM. The other alternative is to use a
third-party application. You can "roll your own" or use something like Scribe
which is pretty widely used and has well-documented CRM import procedures.
Scribe lets you map fields from the source to the destination and conduct
tests in a graphical way. Pretty easy to use, but a little pricey. If you
search this newsgroup for Scribe or DMF (or CDF which is the intermediate
database that the DMF uses) you should find quite a bit of info. Good luck.

The DMF process is a 2 stage one. The first stage (the more difficult stage)
is to get your existing data into the CDF. The CDF is the staging database
which has a very similiar data structure to CRM. To achieve this you need to
understand both your existing data structure and the Ms CRM data structure.
I have done this successfully using Ms Access. The second stage is to run
the utility to bring in the data into Ms CRM. Between stages 1 and 2 you
usually need to do some data cleansing and deduplication.

Within the DMF download there is a fairly comprehensive document about this.

Not quite a simple import. Microsoft provides a Data Migration
Framework - it should be on one of the CRM CDs. This is an interim
database (into which you need to copy your SalesLogix data into) and a
set of database procedures and tools to validate that data and then
import it into the main CRM database

There are alternative third party products such as using Scribe
www.scribesoft.com which may relieve you of some of the effort
