Normally, how long does it take to implement Microsoft CRM Standard and
Professional Editions with no customizations required? Let's say the
company will be having 20 CRM users. Is 3 months too long?

Yes, or there again, No!

This question cannot possibly be answered without some knowledge of the
situation:-

Is there any data migration?
Does it include any client upgrades/
Are Outlook clients to be installed?
Does this include any infrastructure change eg migration to AD or Exchange
2000/2003?
etc etc etc

I would say too long. Unless you are doing some massive changes 3 months of
dedicated work is too long. That is 64.5 man days or around 516 man hours.

That is a lot of hours.

So how long is the typical implementation schedule from the time that CRM
has been installed in all servers and workstations? A month? Let's say that
all the client has to do is to load/encode data from their previous system,
such as the accounts, contacts, knowledge base, etc. I am preparing a CRM
implementation schedule for a client. I have already passed the CRM
Applications Professional exam. Since this is my first time to implement
CRM, I really don't have a basic idea of how long a typical CRM
implementation can take. Can you share a sample implementation plan? I
have seen the sample CRM implementation plan in the Microsoft website but
the schedule is kinda confusing. I have created my own schedule and my
schedule takes roughly 3 months to complete. I hope you can help me on this
:)

If your talking physically implementing the software, that can be achieved
in a day or two. The time taken with CRM is down to much more than a
software install. After all anyone can install a program. The real skill
with CRM comes from analysing the clients business needs and working out
where CRM will fit. typically even at a client who say they do not want
customizations, once they have the system in place the conversation will
always turn into well how can we achieve feature x.

Its difficult to quantify a finite time for implementing CRM. However you
also need to factor in time to train the company on the system and get their
admins up to speed. I assume you have read the ITK?

Anna,

I've done some basic installs in as short as 2 weeks, but it can also take a lot
longer depending on what you are doing. As Jake mentioned, 3 months seems high,
unless you have a large data migration effort or extremely advanced workflow
reqs.

Thanks guys for the replies. In my implementation plan, I have included a
one month live run of CRM after which we conduct a two day validation. This
basically involves checking/reviewing the system if there were any problems
encountered by the users. If no problems/issues were encountered, we
turnover the project to the client. Is the one month live run before
turnover to the client typical?
