    - Convert email to Case - Working Solution! Hi All, After trying to find a way to use CRM as a HelpDesk ticketing system, I finally have the system setup the way I wanted. While I did like the features C360's solution provided, I didn't want all emails to automatically convert into a case (spam, or quick questions). Anyway, I stumbled on this link, and I'm testing it now: http://blogs.msdn.com/crm/archive/2006/09/27/773825.aspx It is somewhat manual (especially if you try to convert an email from someone not already in the system - which the C360 solution provided), and it may not work for us as we get a lot of requests, but at least this what I was trying to do. I do think MS should have had these buttons out of the box. I also created some workflow rules to handle the auto generate email back to the submitter once the case was created, or closed. So far so good. What I don't like is, once you open the case, you have to click on the History, then click on the email to open it in order to start working on the challenge.     - CRM 3.0 Install Not Finding IIS 5.0 or Greater On Server Hello all, I'm new to the MS CRM 3.0 world and have purchased a 3 server setup to get a test environment up. I've got AD on one server, SQL 2005 STD Ed. + 2005 SRS working on a second server and my 3rd server is the CRM server. All servers are running Windows 2003 Server R2 (x64) with all critical patches. Here is my stopping point. I'm running the install wizard for CRM and it passes all tests but this one critical one: Error| Check IIsInstalledValidator : Failure: Internet Information Services (IIS) version 5 or later is not installed. (This error is from the log file - it cannot find IIS locally on the server.) I have installed IIS 6.0 with all the trimmings and have added the MS security patch for it as well. I'm able to bring up the "under construction" page and the services are running and started. Any words of wisdom here on how to get past this little showstopper?     - Cant get CRM to see folder Im using CRM 3 with Sharepoint. I have created a field called 'new_sharepointfolder' and when a value is put into this it passes the value to an iframe on the notes tab. I keep getting either errors on page load or Error: 'crmform.all.IFRAME_documentlibrary' is null or not an object I dont understand, what have i missed?     - Why can I resolve a case with open activity We just upgrade from CRM 1.2 to 3.0 In Crm 1.2 we cannot resolve a case if there is any activity in it. In my 3.0, I can resolve the case even there is open activity in it. Can we recreate the same behavior as crm 1.2 and have the crm give us a message to let us know that the case cannot be resolve because there still open activity in it.     - Associate multiple account to case Hi, My customer would like to associate to his customer case the manufacturer where he could also have case opened (for ex. he opened a case with Microsoft and would like to link this information into his customer case.). He would like to see the name, the phone number, the website and the ticketnumber associate with his customer case. I would like to know if I can find a way to pull out the information from the account entity, or if I would have to create a new entity for the manufacturers or if I will need to do some dynamic picklist and/or callouts.     - CRM data access from external website Hi All, I have a fully working CRM 3.0 solution on a dedicated server on my internal network. This server is also running SQL 2005 I have an externally hosted website on a Windows 2003 Server, located on the internet. I would like to be able to let some of my customers access to certain parts of my CRM solution, so that they can see the status of an order. I have developed a website on the external server that uses ASP.NET linked to my Internal SQL server and allows ASP registered users access to certain pages. On these pages I would like to use a table that shows the information that the customers need. So far, I have managed to link back to my SQL/CRM server that contains the data on the internal network using an SQL login. The problem I have is that because this server uses a SQL login, I cannot access the FilteredReportView, which is as I understand the best way to access the required data. Now my question is, is there a way I can give my SQL login access to the FilteredReport view? Or should I link to the standard views which does work but is not in the ideal format (Picklists come up as numbers)? Or am doing this totally wrong and there is a better way?     - Owner/Organiser When I have an activity (say appointment) and I assign it to somebody else, everything is as expected. However, if the organiser is changed to another person first and then the owner is being changed, then after assigning the appointment to that other person makes CRM pop-up another assign-screen. If you press Cancel on this screen the owner is already changed. My question is, when does the Assign(To) screen pop-up twice, only if the organiser is changed on forehand?     - What port should I open in my firewall to reach Exchnange for CRM Hello people, We have a couple of servers in our domain, that all have their individual Windows firewall turned on. To make the connectivity between them possible, I open every individual port as necessary. While I install CRM 3.0 on server A with Exchange being on server B, I get an error during the installation process that my Exchange server cannot be found. This sure has to be a firewall issue - when I turn of the firewall on server B, the error goes away and I can continue the installation. I tried opening port 25, but that did not resolve my problem during installation.     - how to change regarding field from an email Hello all.. When i send an email regarding a particular LEAD (or regarding anything else) and then the person i sent the email to responds and talks about some other issue say a totally different LEAD CRM already tracks this email and puts in the regarding field the original LEAD i.e. whatever I put as regarding from the original email. I would like to change the regarding field as this is causing HUGE problems for me e.g. I email an AGENT regarding a lead (10 emails back and forth are sent regarding a single LEAD (all the regarding fields are the same as the original email) - GREAT. But then 2 weeks later the agent (not having my email\contact details on file) uses my last sent email and clicks reply to me to talk about something TOTALLY different i.e. another lead or case or opportunity but now i cannot change the regarding lead because CRM automatically links it that that original lead.     - crm 3.0 exchange router pls help!!!since last year pending i have a crm 3.0 install on sbs2003 and run perfect except to display the e-mail queue. i did follow the instruction to setup the exchange router : 1. create crm mailbox. (CRMMail) 2. install the exchange router and point the crm mail box to CRMMail. 3. run the rule deployement wizard. 4. create a disable user account(support). check the associated external account and CRMEmailEnabled attribute for it. then i test send email to support. at exchange system manager i able to see mail is deliver to support account but seem like not able to route a copy to CRMMail because not able to see any mail sit inside the CRMMail.     - Error Going Offline - Propagating Customizations Going Offline with CRM 3.0 Outlook Client I get error "The XML passed to the platform is not well-formed XML." I have recently restored the CRM server. Can anybody refer me to a comprehensive list of what files should be manually restored after restoring the database and reinstalling CRM and connecting to that database? I can't think of any customizations I have made that would upset the system. There are some c360 modules installed, and some light customizations on the forms. I re-imported the Customizations.xml file no problem. I have applied Update Rollup 1 to Server and Client. I have tried un-installing and re-installing Outlook Client. Still same error. My specific case is: internet user requests information from the website. They sign up to receive the information, and what they enter on the sign-up gets put into a lead. They then request a specific item, and this gets placed into a custom entity in CRM. Now, when the custom entity is created, I want to trigger an email to be sent to the person that just requested it, which is stored on the lead. This would work if I could call a manual workflow as a subprocess from a different entity type, but I can't. It would work if I could specify something more than Owner or Owner's manager as a Logical User on my custom entity. This would work if I could push the email into a random field and use THAT for my To address. Needless to say, none of these appear to be possible. Does anyone know of a way to trick the workflow manager into allowing this behavior? Can I change something in the DB to make it think that my lead manual workflow (which uses a Lead email template) is actually categorized under my custom entity so I can call it as a subprocess from my workflow there?     - Importing Outlook Contacts into Microsoft CRM Trying to import my contacts from Outlook into MS CRM and having issues. When trying to import getting unicode errors. I've tried importing the contacts in as .xls, .txt, .pst. xls and txt don't bring back errors the information just doesn't import when I go down to the Microsoft CRM folder>contacts, I don't see them listed there. I only get the Unicode error when doing importing it using .PST. I'm not quite sure If I'm doing something wrong or what. The data field mapping isn't to user friendly either, I see the test contacts I created but again when selecting the options I want and dragging them over to the right side for the mapping, the info still isn't appearing in Contacts CRM.     - Scribe insight Error 384 callout code throws exception We have been testing the migration from Goldmine 6.5 Corporate, into CRM 3.0 using Scribe Insight. Everything is working "ok" but we are having some minor issues. Now we want to completely empty out the CRM databases, and test another migration with Scribe. I am getting the Error 384 callout code throws exception. One of my DB guys thinks it has to do with the keycrossreference table in Scribeinternal DB. But, i uninstalled CRM, and Scribe, deleted all databases, and we are still getting this error? is there something in the registry that needs to be changed?     - Cross Site Scripting Access is denied Hello, I have an external ASP .NET page embebbed in a iframe on CRM 3.0, the page make calculations and set a value in a TextBox inside the CRM form using JavaScript, the url of the iframe is set in the OnLoad event: document.all.IFRAME_TOTALCOTIZACION.src="http://localhost/AdvancedSearch/CotizacionTotal.aspx?oId=" + crmFormSubmit.crmFormSubmitId.value ; All work ok when i use localhost to set the url of the page and i execute the page logging in my computer ( do calculations and set value), but when i execute from another computer of the local network using the browser not find the page because this seek in "localhost", so i replace the "localhost" for IP or name of the machine instead "localhost", but the JavaScript to set the value give me an error "access is denied", i think this is because explorer recognize this like an Cross Site Scripting and the explorer restrict that, but i don't know how to fix, any ideas ?????. i leave unchecked option to restrict command sequences between frames.     - Plse help....! Incoming eMails connect to the wrong opportunity Can somebody explain the logic behind the eMail tags, and how the system connects incoming email? We have many incoming eMails that connect to the wrong entity. Consider the following scenario I see happening here: 1) User1 creates new mail regarding Opportunity ABC and changes the sender to the queue Presales and it gets tag CRM:1234 2) A reply with tag CRM:1234 arrives in the queue Presales and is automatically connected to Opportunity ABC So far so good.... 3) User1 creates new mail regarding Opportunity XYZ and sends from her own username and it gets tag CRM:1234 (same tag as before!) 4) A reply with tag CRM:1234 regarding Opportunity ABC arrives in the Presales queue and gets connected to Opportunity XYZ (the wrong one!) Is this a bug, do we have a database issue, is this by design.....? Should we not send from a queue? We've got 10 or so clients testing heavily to see if it whats we want from a CRM solution for our organisation. Everything generally is running ok, despite our client PC's currently not members of the domain (we are in a process of Novell>AD migration) - and thus we've had to do various fiddles to get clients to talk to the CRM server - such as caching of usernames/passwords on the client... We're currently experiencing this on the Distribute Campaign Activity/ mail merge screen: "Internet Explorer Script Error" when trying to perform a mail merge for a campaign. In Account & Contacts mail merge facilities work fine, just when you try it from a Campaign, >From Distribute Campaign Activity, select any option and "open word" button and you get: "Internet Explorer Script Error" error has occured in the script of this page line 132 char 1 Error The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized Code 0 URL - http://crmserver:5555/_grid/cmds/dlg_camailmerge.aspx? iObjType=4402&iTotal=1&sIds={8277C19B-9DB2-DB11- B9E1-001422193A29}&sAction=letterviamailmerge Running this from a client that is a member of the domain (in case its a funny with the test clients not in AD) seems to show the same behaviour. Everything generally is running ok, despite our client PC's currently not members of the domain (we are in a process of Novell>AD migration) - and thus we've had to do various fiddles to get clients to talk to the CRM server - such as caching of usernames/passwords on the client... We're currently experiencing this on the Distribute Campaign Activity/ mail merge screen: "Internet Explorer Script Error" when trying to perform a mail merge for a campaign. In Account & Contacts mail merge facilities work fine, just when you try it from a Campaign, >From Distribute Campaign Activity, select any option and "open word" button and you get: "Internet Explorer Script Error" error has occured in the script of this page line 132 char 1 Error The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized Code 0 URL - http://crmserver:5555/_grid/cmds/dlg_camailmerge.aspx? iObjType=4402&iTotal=1&sIds={8277C19B-9DB2-DB11- B9E1-001422193A29}&sAction=letterviamailmerge Running this from a client that is a member of the domain (in case its a funny with the test clients not in AD) seems to show the same behaviour. Anybody seen this? the 401 seems to be a strange error as this implies user authentication issues, but as everything is authenticating fine between client and server, I'm not why its throwing this up at this screen - anything I should check? Hi Miguel,

There is no way you can do this out of the mscrm box.

There is an unsupported workaround though to show and hide fields based on a
role of a user. You can create a new role with the name of the Business Unit
and add all BU users to that role.

Information on how to hide on the role is described here:

Keep in mind that this only works for the web client and not the offline
client.
