Is it possible in CRM to have some attributes in the same entity invisibles
for a specific role and visible for another role?

Case-management (gathering of e-mails)
Tracking of emails in MS-CRM can quite fast be a badly arranged sum of mails.
Is it in any way possible to make some kind of case-management?
What we want is to be able to gather e-mails concerning the same case /
matter in some kind of folder.

Synchronizing Microsoft CRM Data - Error - Contacts
Hi
When synchronizing (CRM | Syncrhinize Outlook with CRM) I get the following
error on the Errors tab:
An unkown error occurred while synchronizing data to Outlook
On the Tasks tab I get the following:
Task Progress
Checking for changes Complete
Synchronizing 12 Contacts to Outlook Cancelled
I have tried to delete a few of the contacts that I chose to synchronize
with my Contacts but the number of contacts remained the same.

Account Form picklist field that can show other accounts?
In the Account entity, I have multiple Account Types
(customertypecode). I want to be able to add a picklist field to the
form that will let me choose other accounts with a certain Account
Type. For instance I want a picklist that will only display couriers.

CRM Router will not install.
Hello everyone,
I am having a very strange issue.
The first part of the issue is that I am unable to install the CRM
Exchange Router. I am getting a "401: Unauthorized" error every time
I try. The second part of the issue is that from the exchange server,
I am unable to log into CRM. I get practically the same error as I get
trying to install the CRM router. Any advice would be greatly
appreciated.

Rounding/truncating values in Reports
I am building a custom report which gives a summary of the number of
accounts, leads and opportunities each manager has, and a break down of
the opportunities and leads (like the Account Overview report). In the
opportunity and lead summary sections, I want to display the top 5 by
price, and display the total estimated value, total weighted value and
average estimated probability (just like the Account Overview). I have
created all this and it's fine, except for the fact that it displays
the monetry values with no dollar sign and 1 decimal place, and the
probability value has 13 decimal places - not so nice to look at. Does
anyone know how I can modify the SQL query to round these numbers

Current logged in User in Workflow
While configuring the e-mail in workflow, I want to send the e-mail to the
currently logged in user. I dont see the current user in the list of logical
users.
Also, I want to add a logic to take certain actions when the current user is
not equal to the Owner. Is there any way to do this?

Error when attempt to import customizations to different server.
When attempting to import customizations from our development server to our
production service we are receiving a "SQL Server error occurred". We are
not seeing any errors in the SQL log but we are seeing errors in the IIS
Error Log.

We started with importing all the customization at the same time and then
down to one by one. We still throw the error on a single entity (account).
Our guess is that this is an authentication error based on code (500, 401)
but this only occurs on one entity that is exported in the customization file
all the others work.

crm mobile connection problems
Seems like everyone else's problems get past the three websites that they
should be able to access (ssCERDA, CRMMobileSubscriptions, etc.). My
problem, however, is that I can't even get access to these websites on either
the mobile or a webpage. All I get is a standard 404 error. Any suggests on

HTTP status 401: Unauthorized error
We developed an application using the crm SDK web services. When we access
the application, we get an error:
The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.
If we refresh the page again (hitting F5), we do not get the error. It
seems that the first time CRM authentication fails but the second time it is
ok (on refresh).
We have MS CRM 3.0 deployed on Windows 2003 server using IIS 6.0. The
custom application is using windows authentication and is on the same server
as CRM in a virtual directory.
Any ideas?

Direct Mail from grid leaves email activity open?
When a case is closed, we want to use the "Send Direct E-mail" button on the
grid to send a template email (the reason being that we want to send as a
queue's email address instead of the current user).
The mailing itself works fine, both sending as a queue and sending as the
actual user, but the email, despite being sent, remains as an open activity
instead of something in the History. The only way to close the email so that
the case can be closed is to go in and actually click the send button...
effectively making us have to send the same email twice.
This can't be the expected functionality, can it? Why on earth would a sent

"Link to web Page" parameters?
Hi
I would like to create a new report that show a custom build report (an
.aspx page).
But I can't figure out how to pass parameters til the report. I've created a
report inside CRM of type "Link to web page" and have typed in
"http://microsoft.com" in the location.
When I run the report from the report list everything looks fine, but when I
run the report from eg. an account it fails big time.
How do I pass the parameters? I've tried things like
"http://microsoft.com?id={0}" with no success...

get a message that CRM cannot be installed on a SQL Server 2005 Workgroup
edition.
How comes?
Do I need a separate server for SQL server 2005? I thougth Windows SBS
contained all necessary software.

Deleting demo and lookup help
Hi all, I'm new to crm and have questions:
1. While familiarizing ourselves with CRM and preparing to demonstrate it to
people inside the company, we installed the included sample database,
â??Adventure Works Cycleâ?? on our development environment. Is there an easy way
to get rid of this sample data or do we need to rerun the app server
installation?
2. I am trying to add a lookup field to the lead entry/edit form called
â??Referring Customer.â?? It wonâ??t let me add a relationship between the lead
entity and the account entity. It says I have to use custom entities for
relationships (although there already is a different, built-in relationship
between these entities). All I want to end up with is a lookup field similar
to â??Ownerâ?? but which looks up accounts instead of employees. What is the best
way to do this?

Changing the size of a displayed Section
I know this is possible because I've done it before, but I cannot seem to
figure out how to do it again.
I've added a new tab to an entity form (in this case leads). On this new
tab, I've added a single section and within this section an Iframe. I have
everything working to display the frame, but what I cannot do is expand the
size of the section to cover the whole tab so that it displays as much of the
iframe as possible.
I have searched my books and online and cannot seem to find this. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

SSRS report published in CRM 3.0
I have developed a report in SSRS, when I view the report in VS 2005 it looks
fine
but when I publish the same report in CRM 3.0 , the format gets messed up.
Any idea? Its really frustrating..spending more time in formating than in
logic.

CRM licenses gone - deployment mgr empty? (not a repost)
I've read the various posts about authentication issues causing the
deployment manager to be empty; no licenses, or users.
Our CRM installation was running just fine until this morning it suddenly
returned authentication errors for all users. I've checked everything over
and NOTHING was changed on either the CRM box, or the off-box SQL Server.
If I login to the CRM box as my domain user account (admin on the CRM box) I
get an empty deployment manager. If I login as the local admin account (the
account used to install CRM), I get an error saying SQL Server is unavailable.
The SQL Server in question is on another box and is available. In fact, I
see active connections between the CRM box and the database.
Suggestions?
I checked the CRM database and the SystemUserLicenses table is empty, but I
think that's a red herring. The SystemUserBase table contains all the right
users, as expected.

Checking for entity field conditions in Workflow
We have created a workflow that gets activated on the creation of a Case. In
this workflow we create a Task and then wait for the Task to be marked
Complete before the workflow continues. After the Task is marked complete we
want to be able to check the conditon of fields associated to that Task
within the Case workflow. When we attempt to use the "Check entity
condition" from the Insert Condition menu item, we can check a condition for
the Case but not for the Task. Is there a way to check the condition for the
Task inside the Case workflow or is there a better way to accomplish this

Option to Hide Inactive Contacts
Hello Microsoft,
I am requesting an option to be integrated into a future release of CRM.
Currently (CRM 3.0) inactive Contacts are displayed when an Account record
is opened, and Contacts is selected.
Please implement one of the following:
1. a CRM-wide option or a user preference that would allow inactive Contacts
to be hidden from the view described above.
2. display inactive contacts with a different icon or a different row
background color so that there is a visual clue regarding the state of that
contact.
I have added the statuscode field to the Contact's Associated View - but
would prefer to see the options described above to be available in CRM - so
as to keep the real estate within the associated view available for more
pertinent date fields.

Case should support multiple entities (Not only Account/Contact)
The case currently only supports Account and/or Contact. We have a custom
entity that the case needs to be able to support. So the case should either
allow for additional ObjectId/ObjectType or have the ability to change the
"required" for the Customer.

Can't add new user in crm 3.0

user to our MSCRM test environment. I have created the user in Active
Directory and is able to login as this user, but when I try to add the user

Our test environment is containing two server where server A i DC and server
B runs SQL, Exchange and MSCRM. This was working before and i'm not sure what
has happen. I have tried to update both server with latest patches, but no
luck.

MS CRM 3.0 and Outlook Contact syncing issue
I have a problem with one laptop user and his ability to sync CRM data groups
with his Outlook Contacts.
A summary of what I've tried:
Originally installed the laptop client so the user could work offline.
Set up syncronizing with Outlook Contacts and some data groups but the sync
locked up and I had to cancel.
Retried the sync, but kept getting an error and it would never complete.
The exact error is "An unknown error occurred while synchronizing the
data to Outlook" - very helpful eh? :-)
Uninstalled CRM and SQL, deleted all folders I could find associated with
CRM and installed the CRM DESKTOP client.
Discovered that the laptop client not really what we needed.
Added only one of the smaller data groups to sync with Outlook (41 contacts)
and tried to sync.
CRM Sync Progress showed it trying to sync over 1400 contacts (possibly from
the original attempt above) and then gave the error "An Unknown error..."
Removed all data groups AND unchecked Contacts in syncronization so they
would no longer sync.
When I hit the syncronize button 1282 contacts attempt to sync an error out
with the same message above.
Please help. I found nothing on the MS CRM site and I posted a couple of
times for a reply over the last few weeks and got no response.
I believe that somewhere CRM must be holding on to the original sync attempt
or it retains user setttings locally or on the server that I am unable to
find and remove.

CRM 3.0 VSS Backup issues
I have a Windows 2003 member server running Microsoft CRM 3.0 with Scribe
for SQL sync. My backup (Veritas 10.0) started to fail last Thursday night
when backing up the CRM server.Every night sice, the backup has failed and
it has always been with the VSS service writers timing out. I downloaded a
hotfix from Mircosoft that was supposed to address timeout issues but the
backup failed after the hotfix patch. There has been no new software
installed between the time the backup succeeded and the time it started
failing. The only configuration since has been work to sync our accounting
sql database to various crm fields( A vendor is doing all the CRM work). I
have a feeling that something related to crm keeps the server so busy that
the VSS service cannot take a snapshot in the time required. Anyone else run

Appointment integration with Outlook
It would be good if appointments created in CRM integrated more fully with
the Appointment scheduling facility within Outlook.
For example if a user declines an invitation to an appointment (that is
tracked in CRM) in Outlook then they should be removed from the list of
attendees. Similiarly when a 'new time' is suggested which is then accepted
by the host, this should also reflect in CRM.
Just an idea and it would certainly raise MS CRM above the bar

Problem running MS CRM 3.0 over SSL (https)
I have setup an install of Microsoft CRM 3.0 on a high spec Windows 2003
Small Business Server and it all worked happily.
I then generated an SSL certificate and applied it to the site in IIS.
Initially when you load CRM (using the web client) it loads the left hand
menu and navigation panes and shows the top menus and the user which is
logged in however to main content area remains blank. After a time out period
the error "An error has occurred. For more information, contact your system
administrator" appears.
The strange thing is you can navigate the menus etc and even edit the
settings under 'Personalize Workspace'. Some screens do load such as Quick
Campaigns, and you can create appointments. If you try and load the majority
of other screens such as Account or Contact, Marketing etc you get the same
error.
After modifying the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MSCRM
- ServerUrl value to reflect that we were now operating over https and
reopening CRM we got the exact same problem but without the long delay of
waiting for the error message to appear.
Does anyone have any suggestions or any experience of anything happening

Restrictions on activities created from a sales process?
I've created sales process with sale stages and with generated
activities. Is it possible to restict access to activites generated
from a sales process to only be visable to the user owning the
opportunity. Activities not generated from a sales process will be
visable for all users.

Dynamic Export of Marketing List not working
When i try to export a marketing list to excel using dynamic worksheet
I get all contacts in the system not the contacts in the list. Is this
a bug? I found a workaround to use advance find to get all members in
the Marketing List with address information.

Changing a custom field length
We have created a custom section and there is a field (in that custom
section) whose length has to be changed from 100 to 500 of nvarchar
datatype, but the interface does not allow more than 100 for nvarchar.
I couldnt modify the format of textbox to textarea as it is disabled
nor i can change the datatype to another datatype. can anybody please
help me with this??

Cancelling or resolving the case does not seem to stop the wait status. Is
there a way to stop it? Is there a way to put an OR in a wait, ie "wait for

Manuel CRM process Migrating to CRM 3.0
I was wondering if there is a way, or a best pratice guide that i could
follow, to migrate all our invoices pricelist fax info and stuff to a newly
build CRM server.
curretnly all our data and customer info are on microsoft word and excel
sheets including stock information and other stuff. we do not have a

emailing scheduled reports in CRM 3.0
Hi,
I require an urgent help!
I am being able to schedule reports using Report Scheduling Wizard in CRM
3.0. However my requirement is that the same scheduled reports should be
available in E-mail to the user.
How do you go about doing this? How do we get the scheduled report snapshots
available in E-mail to the users mailbox.
It will be of great help if anyone can throw some light on this.

We have MS CRM 3.0 installed on our SBS 2003 Server. Daily in Event Viewer
we see MSCRMWorkflowService (16649) errors. Every time we reboot our SBS
server the following services that are set to automatic never start and we
must start them manually.

cannot insert email template for unresolved contact
Hi guys,
Using the Web Client of Microsoft CRM 3.0, when I am sending an email
and try and insert a template and the "To" field has a "unresolved
contact" (its red) I get a system error.
I have tried this on three different CRM 3.0 systems and they all do
it. I am wondering is this a known bug for CRM 3.0 or does anyone have
a solution? I have searched the following hotfixes but couldnt find

Workflow not Automatic
Hello,
I wanted to say that this is a really great forum on Microsoft CRM. I am am
newbie to Mircosoft CRM. I am i nthe process of creating a workflow that
Cchanges the Lead status to 'Qualified' and Assigns it to a different user,
when the Rating is set to 'Hot'.
I logged into CRM server as the user and created the Workflow using an
If-Action condition. After saving it, I activated it. Then I logged into the
client using the same User that I used in creating the workflow and created
and Saved the new lead. The Rating at this time was 'Warm. Then I set the
Rating to 'Hot' and saved the record. I expected the activated workflow to
change the Lead status and assignment, but nothing happened. The Status never
changed and neither did the assignment to nother user occoured. However, then
I went to 'More Actions-> Apply Rule' and the explicitely applied the
workflow, it worked.
How can I make the workflow work Automatically and not manually?

CRM Service Sheduling multiple service activities at once
We should be able to comnbine services in the service scheduling. For
exemple, in truck fleet maintenance environment, often you will need to
schedule an Oil Change and Change Break pads, or Oil Change and change
tires..
The system should allow for scheduling both activites togheter, allowing for
selecing whether the activites should be scheduled simultanneouslty or one
after the other.

CRM Service Scheduling should consider lunch and break time
When scheduling a service activity of say 3 h, if a service resource is
available at 10 am, he will not be considered because he as a lunch at 12:00,
only 2 hours avaulable, but he is still available at 13:00 , so it should
be possible to shedule the job.
An option should be provided to either consider lunch/break times or not
when scheduling work.

Character limitation on notes for Activities
Is is true that the 2,000 character limitation on notes is a hard coded
fact of life for MS CRM? Is there a way to increase this (and still
maintain a working relationship with MS?) ?

Best Practice for large number of checkbox/bit attributes
I am working on a deployment of CRM 3.0 for my company and one of the
requirements is to track a large number of checkboxes (bit fields) for
contacts. These are used to track skill sets, certifications, and
other similar data. There are about 125 of these items and they could
add to this list over time.
Looking at this requirement from my ASP.NET background, I would easily
solve this with a lookup table of "skills" with all the skills listed
and allow the user to add skills and populate a "user_skills" table
based on what they added. However, I just can't get my mind around how
this would be done in CRM.
I've tried creating a new custom entity named "Skills" with a "Skill
Name" primary attribute and added a relationship between it and
Contacts, but that doesn't allow me to choose from the list of skills
(only add to it). I started to test the workaround to the many-to-many
limitation, but that doesn't seem to be the right direction either.
Plus none of the methods will allow me to use a simple checkbox
interface for fast data entry.
I'm not looking for a complete solution to this question, but rather
just some advise on how to think about this the CRM way. One easy
solution (that keeps popping in my head each time I work on this) is
just to create 125 attributes in the Contacts entity and be done with
it, but that just seems like really _bad_ practice.

CRM 1.2 -> 3.0 Upgrade timeout on ActivityBase table
Hello,
Our CRM upgrade is currently timing out when migrating the ActivityBase
table in CRM 1.2 to the ActivityPointerBase table in CRM 3.0.
Our ActiviityBase table has about 1.7 million rows. Is there anyway we can
resolve this issue or workaround this particular issue and continue the
upgrade process?
Any ideas or suggestions would be **greatly** appreciated.
