    - CRM Vista install I have been having a problem deploying the outlook client to a user with Vista Home Premium and Office 2007. I can make the install work, but its a kludge and problematic. Normally when i install PCs that are off our domain, They are confugured to connect to us via VPN and we use the "Stored Usernames and Passwords" feature in Windows XP to handle the Login for the CRM server as was recommended to us by Microsoft. But when I try and do that with Vista Home Premium, the login never passes to the CRM server. I comfirmed this by trying to connect to our CRM web server as well. All I got was a black login dialog. Just to see what would happen, I stripped out the Stored username and password and the opened the web page again. When propted to login, I did so and saved the password. I got my connection to the web server and then closed the browser. I then opened Outlook and CRM finished loading in Outlook 2007. I can close and open CRM at this point and CRM works. But if I go to the stored user name and password area, it is still blank. We use a piece of software that will blank out stored logins in IE, (but not in stored usernames and passwords) so the login has to be redone in IE every day. Just incase any one is curious, I have the Intranet and trusted site set for our CRM server. I have yet to see a document that states how to do client installs for vista, and according to all the system requirements for CRM client for Outlook, it states that you can use any version of Vista.     - window.returnValue not returning value to my CRM form I am attempting to create a popup dialog box that handles some input that is forced back into the CRM Form and I'm running into problems. I am using window.showModalDialog in my javascript, and passing it some parameters. My dialogArguments argument on the dialog box side ALWAYS comes up undefined, so I can't reference anything on the parent. Also, when I try and send a returnValue of the window, undefined is always returned to the parent form. My window is hosted in the same domain as my CRM installation.     - Security Role For Root Business Unit Question ? I am still new to the Microsoft CRM, so please forgive me if this question or my understand of the CRM is incorrect. My question regarding the security role is that there is a privilege called "Assign Role" and it's under the "Business Management" tab of a security role. If I set the access level of this privilege to be "Business Unit", and there is only one business unit in the whole CRM. (I guess we could call it the root business unit.). This is essentially the same as enabling this secutiry role to add/remove security roles for other users/teams across the whole organization ?? Because there is no parent business unit in this case.     - Installation error with SQL Server 2005 Environment: separate boxes (4) for all applications. Each runs Windows 2003 Ent SP2. I have Exchange 2003 and SQL Server 2005 Std. DC/AD is on one and CRM is slated for the 4th. I have CRM 3.0 pro. It gets all the way to the System Requirements screen. The SQL Server test fails with the following error message: "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (PreLoginHandshake()).]General network error. Check your network documentation." The connectivity is there. All boxes are in the same domain and see each other clearly. When selecting the SQL server, it appears in the list. Everything is using the local service acct, which is admin.     - Literature Activity We are using MSCRM 3.0 and know that (unfortunately) CRM does not permit the creation of new activity types.     - crm accounts fail to sync with outlook 2007 Outlook when syncing with CRM 3.0 completes stage 1 OK of sync and then takes all contacts away from Outlook trying to sync and then only returns 91 of 1650 accounts. We have 2 other laptops, 1 excatly the same and sync's fine. The other is same brand lower spec model and is also failing.     - CRM Outlook Client multiple profiles We have a user that has left the company, and another user would like regular access to the deprted user's CRM content. What is the easiest way to do this from the active user's desktop? Will they have to logon as the departed user? Or, can they access the CRM without an alternate logon from their desktop? He would prefer to keep the departed user's info seperate from his, just in case someone was going to mention importing the data into his user's content.     - CRM 3.0 Desktop Client for Outlook problem I've deployed the above to workstations on a domain using a GPO, however according to the application log, the installation fails with the error message, "User Cancelled Installation". Yet despite it failing, when I fire up outlook, the setup application for the desktop client is launched. During the checks, it reports the following issues Errors: * The user running setup is not a domain user * Microsoft outlook was not initialized. Please run outlook and configure your mail account * Setup failed to verify whether the microsoft CRM message store already exists Warning: * Setup cannot connect to the microsoft CRM server. This might indicate the server is down For info, the user I'm logged on with, is not only a domain user, but has domain admin rights, outlook does have a valid profile, and works perfectly.     - Creating activities on other's behalf We regularly create telephone calls for colleagues. However, it is currently impossible to change the ownership of the activities to the colleague the activity is created for, with the result that the activity stays in the Activity list of the organizer. The data in this list also doesn't change, even if the activity has been chenged. This is a security-role issue, so I have checked and changed these, but this doesn't seem to help. All my colleagues have all possible right concerning activities within the Business Unit. Does someone have a suggestion as to what the problem might be?     - How does email tracking work? We're having an issue with email tracking and I want to understand the process in hopes of troubleshooting. We use the Outlook client and CRM Router. When I send a tracked email externally and get a reply, I know a rule fires that forwards the reply to another mailbox which does the tracking.     - CRM Integration with Outlook Mail Client Hello, I'm new to CRM, just rolled out our system last week. Unfortunately we were led to believe by our vendor that we would be able to use our Outlook mail client as our primary tool for e-mail which doesn't seem to be possible. When I open a contact through CRM I want to click on the contact's email address and have an Outlook mail client open up and automatically be tracked in CRM. Currently we have to copy the contact's email address from CRM then create a new mail message in Outlook, paste the address and then click the "Track in CRM" button. Is there any way around this? My users are not happy with the CRM mail client due to the lack of signature pickers etc... Too many steps in using the template based system in CRM. Any help is greatly appreciated.     - Providing a link to files on a netword I would like to create a link from Accounts to certain folders in our shared network drive. I thought there might be a way to do this by creating a new URL attribute, attaching it to the Accounts entity and then simply typing in the path to the file.     - How many hierarchical levels of 'account' data are possible? Hi, i'm currently doing some consultancy work for an electrical contractor, and it's (looking to be) my first foray into CRM. We're on the verge of choosing MS CRM and having liked what i've seen in terms of its general usability and 'customizability'. I was wondering if anyone could let me know just how customizable they've found it in terms of multiple data levels, two examples... My company has its clients at the top level ('accounts', whatever), and each client has a number of buildings, and each building has a number of electrical works/projects that have been carried out on it. Can MS CRM provide this kind of data hierarchy adequately? Secondly, has anyone built in / customized / utilized a fairly complex quoting system in MS CRM that can lookup stock / prices from a fairly complex hierarchical stock database, and even better, either create an invoice or export the quote to Quickbooks?     - Bulk Import fails on simple single record,single field import Hi I cannot get CRM 3.0 to import data into any entities. For testing, I created a simple csv file with 1 line (record) and only a single field in it. It has no spaces, non-text chars are anything else that could be strange. It's UTF-8 encoded. CRM allows me to upload the file and map the field, but when I click next, I get a "Import Source File is Corrupt". I'm now at a total loss... Any help would be a much appreciated!     - CRM seems to go to sleep after long periods of inactivity Hi We are hosting CRM 3.0 on the internet for some of our users. The fact that we have so few users means the server is often not accessed for a day or two at a time. The issue is that when the server has been idle for such a long period of time, whenever one of the users tries to access again it they get timeout errors, and are only able to access CRM again if I connect to the CRM server from on the server itself (which still takes a while but seems to complete before timeout).     - CRM Integration Hello, I'm starting using Microsoft CRM and I want to show a CRM UI from a different Web App. What I meant with this is to try to show.. for example IE with the Add Campaign screen and use it as part of my application .     - Outlook Client Is Losing Connection To Microsoft CRM While Online Hi. I have Rollup 2 installed on both the Outlook Client and the server. On my laptop, I am running Win XP Pro with SP 2 and all the updates applied and Outlook 2003 with all the updates applied. I am noticing that I seem to be losing the connection to Microsoft CRM from the Outlook Client. Right after I boot my laptop I am able to access to Microsoft CRM from the Outlook Client for between 4 hours to a day. After that if I click on the Accounts, Contacts or Leads folders nothing seems to happen. I have waited up to 10 minutes after clicking and nothing. At this point I can still use Outlook to do anything that is not related to Microsoft CRM. I can also use the Internet Browser client to access Microsoft CRM. If I reboot the laptop then I can once again access Microsoft CRM through the Outlook Client for a while. Any idea as to what is going on and how to fix it? Thanks.     - Error in "Home.aspx" code After struggling with the error message that I inquired about below as well as some of those from other posts, I have discovered an error in the code of the home.aspx file. The problem is with the lines of code at the end of the file as shown below: <% //Call the method that will print a list of links to the respective entities this.PrintListOfEntities(); %></asp:Content> When opening the file with the Expressions application and placing your cursor on it, the message â??In content pages, content is not allowed outside <script> or <asp:content> regions. If you remove the offending characters, the file opens in a browser OK, but does not call up the links. My knowledge of this code is limited enough that I haven't figured out how to fix it.     - moving crm installation to new network.. I've done a few searches on migration issues, but most seem to be about getting data into a new CRM install. What I'm looking at is moving an existing MS CRM3 install from one network to a completely new network. Not just a new SQL server or IIS/ CRM server, but an entirely new AD. We have a client who wants to move from their local LAN into a new hosted environment, so there's no real upgrade path for their current stuff, its basically a 100% fresh network. Does anyone have any experience doing this? Or perhaps I should be asking if this is even possible?
