Is there anything that can be done to help this issue?

If exchange and CRM lose connection it seems that the email router will just
fail. There is no retry or anything. CRM never gets the email. Am I
missing something?>

Afraid not. The router is not that robust.

Might help if Exchange = CRM (ie, SBS2003) somewhat though ?
