I am working on an upgrade of 1.2 to 3.0 on an SBS2003 box, and it has not
been fun. Major headaches, restores, reboots, and reinstalls.

My question to the group: Has anyone had a clean and easy upgrade? I've seen
lots of posts here about problems with the upgrade process, and I'm just
wondering how prevalent these headaches are, and whether or not the upgrade
has gone smoothly for anyone? I'd be interested to know what your environment
looks like, especially if you have not had any problems with the upgrade
process.

Matt; we've done it 8 or 9 times, with our internal implementation and a
bunch of development VM installations. we've never had an installation fail
yet - of course now that I have said that, the next one likely will.

We don't have any SBS installations, thankfully - wondering if that's the
spanner in the works?

You've done the upgrade 8 or 9 times, or new installations? I've been pleased
with clean installs, as I've said, but upgrades -- that's another question.
But I'm certainly glad to hear you've had success with them. I wouldn't be
surprised if SBS had something to do with my headaches in this case...

mostly upgrades - we have demo VMs for 5 or 6 lines of business that we
cater to - all upgraded ok, even with all the crap that we had stuffed in
the database over the last few years. Most of the were win2000 servers, but
our internal crm (that we use day-to-day) was server2003.

never been a fan of sbs, it's a bit too delicate.

Cheers,

We've done 3 migrations (none of them on SBS though) and they have all
migrated very well. A little bump here or there but all in all, they
have gone very smooth. All of the implmentations were heavily
customized as well.

Our IT guys upgraded us (remotely from Australia) from v1.2 to v3.

We are running 3 boxes with 2003 Server. Not Small Business versions.

Took about 6 hours apparently.

Matt,

I am still trying to get my upgrade from 1.2 to 3.0 completed. I am running
SBS 2003 here. I've gotten most of it except for the SQL Reporting Services.
Another member of our study group is having troublle doing a clean install
to a new install of SBS 2003. He's reformatted a couple of times so far.

Hi guys,

We have had one SBS and one Enterprise server fail, the SBS one is to do
with a forign key constraint issue (which we think the client may have
tinkered with the db) and the other was our server which we have got working
since the failed install (03 ent server w/ exchange, sql, AD, DNS, the lot!).
Aside from that we have got many other installs (4 x sbs, 1 fresh, 3
upgrade), (5 x ent, 3 fresh, 2 upgrade) all working first off without issue.
More so niggely issues with getting the laptop and desktop clients installed!
Once installed they seem to be reliable but getting them installed is
sometimes the headache.

Regards,

Nathan
