I added a couple fields (not custom) to the account form . . . then removed
them. Now, those field names are showing up in the fields dropdown box in
"Advanced Find". How can I remove them from there?

You cannot remove them from the fields dropdown box in Advanced Find. All
fields, whether they appear on a form or not, are listed for a particular
object. If you check out the list, you will find there are a whole lot of
fields that are in that dropdown, since there are a lot of extra fields in
each Object schema.

Hope that helps.

Yes and no. There are some "extra" fields in there, but the 2 fields I
added to the form and then removed did not show up in that dropdown box
until I added and removed them. they are address1_primarycontactname and
address2_primarycontactname.

So something happened to get them there.

I just learned something myself. Was not aware that Advanced Find
distinquished between used and unused fields on forms. Maybe someone else
can fill in the details.

Did some digging ...

This functionality is currently by design, due to the way the Microsoft CRM
form editor works. When a field is added to a form, it gets placed into the
Fields XML (which can be viewed from the form editor). When a field is
removed from the form, the Field XML does not reflect the removal of the
field from the Entity form. Because the Advanced Find uses this XML, the
field will be available in Advanced Find even though you remove it from a
form.

Hope this helps.

One way to reduce the pain is to add the field back to the form temporarily
and rename its label in searches to zUnused1, zUnused2 etc (or similar);
then remove from form again.

At least the unused fields do not visually clutter up the used part of
Advanced Find dropdowns, and its clear to users that the entries are not
usable

Isn't there a way to access the XML file directly to get rid of those
listings?

One way to go about that would be to export the customizations, then edit the
resulting XML and find the appropriate FieldsXML and then remove the fields in
question and re-import.

Totally not supported, but it should work.
