Send Email CRM 3.0
Hello,
I have created a new entity and linked it to Case. This new entity has
a frame inside which display a report when the form is loading. I
would like to extend this functionality in order to send the new
report created by email to a client. Can anyone tell me where I can
find the report (maybe in temporary files) and how do I create a new
email using javascript, attach the report, pass the recipient name and
send it?
Is there a documentation or does anyone has one to show how this can
be done?
Many Thanks,

Limiting Security Role Assignment
My question regards the ability of an administrator to assign the System
Administrator security role to any user.
We want to give select users the ability to manage the business users for
our CRM instance. This includes creating user records, and assigning various
security roles to them. However, we don't want the person with this role to
have the ability to customise CRM forms and suchlike.
It seems though that we cannot prevent anyone with the the Assign Role
privilege from being able to assign any role (including System Administrator)
to anyone they wish, including themselves. Is there any way to reduce the
risk of this, by restricting the ability of a business administrator to only
assign roles of equal or lesser power than they already have? Tag: IIS and Customer Connector Tag: 99876

crm 3 outlook forward as attachment rule removing attachment in original message.
CRM 3
Exchange 2003
Has anybody else come across this problem please?
I have just found a strange thing.
This organisation receives many 'Safety' related emails each day from a
large Mining Client. The emails are sent from the Mining Client to us by
'forwarding as an attachment' so the actual email we receive is an attached
.msg file.
Problem definition
Emails are 'forwarded as an attachment' from outside this organisation to a
crm user: The attachment on the received email is truncated to between 60
bytes and 200 bytes and is of course unreadable.
There is an email in sent items caused by the crm 'forward as attachment'
rule; the attachment on this email can be read correctly here.
If an email is forwarded as an attachment from within the organisation to a
crm user then the attachment is ok. (looking into this to see if the crm
rule is applied in this case)
The problem is reproducible.
Solution
Removing the crm forward rule solves the problem.
Notes.
As far as I can tell, this is not a CRM problem but an outlook problem. The
problem doesn't occur when a crm user manually forwards a message as an
attachment, only when a message that is forwarded as an attachment from
outside the organisation to the crm user has a local outlook forward as an
attachment rule applied.
I am doing further testing but removing the rule definitely solves the
problem.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Email Messages sent by CRM 4.0 Router missing name from email addr
We are using the CRM 4.0 email router for automatically sending emails using
the SDK, however when the message is received it only contains the email
address, not the full name of the user from CRM who sent the email.
For example, instead of an email with an address of
"Joe Blow"<jb@mailinator.com>
it only has
jb@mailinator.com
Is there any way of making the router include the name? This worked under 3.0

Can Lookup Attributes be Updated using CRM 4.0 Data Import?
I wrote some code that uses the CRM 4.0 Data Import functionality to
process files that create and update data for custom entities I have
created. It was confusing to figure out because of the sparse
documentation but it seemed to be working nicely until I noticed that
when ImportModeCode is Update the entity attributes that are Lookups
don't seem to be getting updated.
For example, I created a custom entity named new_lease that has a
new_territoryid lookup attribute that looks up it's data from the
territory entity. The code populates the new_territoryid value when
importing leases and ImportModeCode is CREATED; however, it does not
change the territory when importing leases when ImportModeCode is
UPDATE. It's not just territory-related lookups that are failing -
others such as those to Contacts and Accounts don't work either. No
error is thrown and the rows show as "Leases Updated" under the System
Job. Other non-lookup-type columns on the entities are being updated
with values in the files.
Is there some reason that Lookup Attributes cannot be UPDATED using
Data Import functionality as is documented in the SDK?
Any advice is greatly appreciated....

consolidating e-mail threads
When you are automatically tracking CRM mail (either via the Mail Router or
via Outlook), and when you have a lengthy back-and-forth exchange with a
customer, the CRM tracks each of these emails as a separate activity in CRM.
Has anyone run across a solution (ISV or otherwise) that will consolidate
those activities into one activity? It would seem possible, especially if
using the tracking tokens.

CRM 3.0: Report icon disappeared
Hi all,
I am facing a major problem: The reports' icon for most of my users
disappeared! A couple other people and myself are Admins and we can
still access reports OK. The other users cannot see the report icon
from the Accounts form, for example. When they access Reports under My
Work, they get a blank form instead of the list of all reports.
The only things I remember changing since it was last working are:
- Rearranging most users in business units and changing which BU was
parented by which.
- I published the reports using VS2003 so now they are visible from
http://crm-server/reports/
I don't know whether this affected the reports icon! Shouldn't it be
visible regardless of security rights? Does BU assignment affect
report visibility?

CRM 4.0 Oulook Client on citrix servers w/roaming profiles

4.0 Internet Facing Deployment Signin.aspx page targets wrong url (no
I've set up an IFD and everything is working fine, except that
"targeturl" parameter is missing the port number for the CRM website.
When you open the CRM server external url in IE (https://
<organizationname>.<subdomain>.<domain>.com:5555/), you're redirected
to this url:
https://<organizationname>.<subdomain>.<domain>.com:5555/signin.aspx?targeturl=https%3a%2f%2f<organizationname>.<subdomain>.<domain>.com%2fdefault.aspx
However, the correct url should be:
https://<organizationname>.<subdomain>.<domain>.com:5555/signin.aspx?targeturl=https%3a%2f%2f<organizationname>.<subdomain>.<domain>.com%3a5555%2fdefault.aspx
Notice that the correct url has "%3a5555" which is the port number.
So after the user logs in, they are directed to
https://<organizationname>.<subdomain>.<domain>.com:443 and not
https://<organizationname>.<subdomain>.<domain>.com:5555 like they
should be, and they get a 404, since the CRM server does not expose
port 443 (another server routes all 5555 traffic to port 443 of the
CRM server.)
HOWEVER: if instead of using the url: "https://
<organizationname>.<subdomain>.<domain>.com:5555/" the user instead
uses "https://<organizationname>.<subdomain>.<domain>.com:5555/
signin.aspx" then the user does not get the "?targeturl" appended to
the address, port 5555 sticks to the url, and everything works fine.
Anyone know how to fix this? How does the "targeturl" parameter get
set? I'd like to avoid putting a forwarding page on port 443 of the
exposed server to the appropriate signin page.
Thanks,

Invoicing a contract
Hi,
Within our organization we are now starting to use the contracts feature in
CRM 3.0
However, we are experiencing some difficulties with actvitating some of our
contracts.
To activate a contract, you must first 'invoice' the contract. With some of
our contracts this doesn't seem to be a problem at all and their status turns
from 'Draft' into 'Active'. With most of our other contracts we get the
following error message:
---
Contracts Error
The contract address is missing. You need to add an address before this
contract can be invoiced.
---
We can't seem to activate those contracts. When we try to fill in the
Contract Address, it's not even possible to select such an address!
The 'Bill To' address is filled in properly.
- What address is CRM asking for?
- How can we make sure that we can select such an addres from our look up
field?
If we compare the data that was filled in on the 'Active' contracts it
doesn't seem to differ at all from the 'Draft' contracts we can't seem to
activate.
Does anybody know what we should do or how we can fix this?
Any help would really be appreciated!
