You may find that this is related to an issue with a recent IE security update.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918899

Check the computers that are having the problem, and see if update 918899 is
installed. If so, you'll need to decide whether to install the hotfix or to
wait until a further cumulative update becomes available that fixes this
issue. I haven't seen an expected release date for this yet.

Mario - yep, that's got the hotfix reference; thanks for including the link.
I meant that I hadn't seen an expected release date for the cumulative update
(which will be fully regression-tested, unlike the hotfix, and will therefore
be available for download). I think someone mentioned October, although I
could be imagining things.

Chdup - as far as I know, you have to call Microsoft support and ask.
Unfortunately this usually requires a credit card, although it's worth
checking whether they'll waive the fee for this one. To quote the KB article:

"To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product
Support Services phone numbers and information about support costs, visit the
following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];CNTACTMS
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;%5Bln%5D;cntactms)
"Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support
calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a
specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply
to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the
specific update in question."
