Outlook client error
One user is experiencing a problem with the Outlook client (web version is
fine) (MS 1.2 Office 2003 XP security issue with hot fix installed). When
opening Outlook and trying to access the CRM folders, he gets an error
message saying that the server cannot be found.
Cache has been cleared and the system has been restarted but still it
doesn't work. Since he can access the web client, it is not because that he
hasn't got a license.

I am a newbie in CRM system. Does anyone know how to backup the data of CRM
system? Our client does not want to type the product and customer data one by
one. Unfortunately they make a big mistake that can't log onto the CRM server

New installation
I have several questions:
1. After the installation of MSCRMv1.2, SQL distribution database wasn't
seemed to appear at all. Why does this happen?
2. In v1.2 Sales for OUtlook Client, since it has its own local web
server(IIS). What is the update interval from local IIS to IIS on MSCRM
server?
3. Since we can't delete Business Unit in MSCRM, what is the workaround to

launch query on new thread?
Using csharp/asp.net and the SDK, I want to launch a process containing a
long-running CRM query on a new thread. I don't care about waiting for an
async callback, because the new thread will write its status to the cache,
so I just launch the new thread with thread.Start().
Problem is, the new thread doesn't appear to have permission to execute a
CRM fetch; I get an http 401 error. It executes a crm login right before
that without a problem though.
I'm guessing this is because the new thread doesn't run in the same security
context as the thread that launched it, but I don't know how to determine
this or what to do about it.
The web folder is already configured for windows authentication, and
anonymous access is not allowed.
If I run the very same code without spawning a new thread, it works great.

Opportunity status change rule not working
I have created a workflow rule to send an email to management when the status
of the Opportunity changes to "won". It does not work. I'm set as Root
Business Unit, and I've used the proper status field "statecode". Is there

Specified logon name already exists
Please help. I have a remote CRM user who has been using
SFO for about a month now without problems. Yesterday,
however, he went offline and now when he attempts to go
back online he gets the following error:
"The specified logon name already exists. You must
specify a unique domain logon name or open the user
record that is using this name already."
He is able to access CRM via the web interface, and his
Outlook appears to be functional.
We have CRM 1.2 with performance & toolbar hotfixes
installed. His Outlook is 2003 w/ SP1.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Print quote + export to word + save as + create note w/attach
Hi all,
I would like to know if anybody has already done something similar, even
using some (cheap) commercial program.
The main goal is to add a button on the quote form (as explained previously
in this group) that should:
- invoke Crystal Report in a "silent mode" passing some parameters (quote
ID, folder name to say where to put the exported report, etc.) and telling CR
to export the report in Ms Word format to the folder specified;
- create a note with the Word file attached.
I am sure the last step is very easy, but I cannot figure out about the
first one.
I think that editing a quote in Ms Word format prior to send it to the
customer should be one of the easiest activities of a salesman, and with this
product seems to be a bit too complex...
Another way could be to use SFO and the "Print quote for customer" function,
with the mail merge feature, but in this case if you added some fields to the
offer you can not use those new fields, and your customer will not be happy
so much.
I waited also for the Office Information Bridge Framework for CRM, and for
something called "Accelerator for Proposal" (mmh, the name was exactly was I
was looking for...), but I discovered that the MOIBF for CRM only "exposes"
account, contacts, and so on, and we are still waiting for the Accelerator.
At the end, I decided to post this message, hoping in your help...

CRM Pro subject manager w/ 1 user
I using CRM Pro, I only need one user (small wine company starting up). I
found the posting about needing to be logged in as the original administrator
to use the subject manager, however, I can't seem to switch to use a
different user now that I have created the administrator user. While
attempting to switch, I get locked out of the system for having no user
license. (Tried that once, and had to reinstall; currently just logging in
as administrator) Is there any way around this?

Update custom made picklist with the help of sdk
Hi,
I have made my own picklists and when I create eg. an incident with the help
of SDK I would like to update my picklists as well with the corresponding
value. I have made three picklists for an incident(case), but I can't figure
out how to update it from the SDK. Can anyone help me on this one?
This is how I do it in my xml query:

In contact I have just made one picklist and the update seems to work
alright. That's why I suspect one can only have one custom picklist. Can any

Hi everybody,
I'm a newbie in CRM, but I'm learning about it.
I've got a scenario in which I have to create an ActiveDirectory
subdomain.
In this subdomain I have to install MS CRM.
Do you know if I have to install Exchange in the same subdomain?
Alternatively can I manage this by using the mail router of CRM to
connect to the Exchange in the main domain? Would this work without
installing exchange in the subdomain?

Automatically updating fields
Hi,
Sorry to repost this but I just want to check whether there are any
new options for what I want to do:
I have several thousand records in MS CRM (leads and accounts), which
contain fields like annual turnover, number of employees etc. In 12
months time the information in such fields will be out of date and I
need to be able to up date these fields from an external source so
that we can continually target our marketing activity based on fields
like turnover, number of employees etc.
Responses to my original post gave the following options:
1. Scribe Insight
2. Write SDK Calls
3. Update the database table directly in SQL (unsupported)
Does anyone know of any other options?

Crystal: Verify you have enough crystal licences
I have been experiencing a problem, like many of you, with Crystal
reports on a CRM 1.2 server reporting that there are not enough
licences when I try to access a report. The reporting service works
for a while and then stops - restarting all of the crystal services
make no difference but after rebooting the server it starts to work
again.

I tried the reported fixes I can find but nothing worked, INTERACTIVE
and Authenticated Users have the correct access rights.
Finally I resolved the problem by tracking through the connection that
the Crystal_CrystalAPS service uses. It uses a DSN to connect to the
database (Specified in the service properties). testing the
connection was failing - it turned out in my case that the service was
using the local service account and that the local service account on
my server didn't have any access rights on the database.
I have fixed this by granting (Temporarily) the IIS01$ service account
SysAdmins rights on the SQL server.
I am posting this purely in case other people have the same problem
and want another straw to clutch at!
If you have other fixes which work for you post them in response to
help out other people - so far I have found lots of problem reports
but few fixes.

Removing standard buttons from main sales window (Account)

is there also a way to remove the "New Account" button above the grid in the
Sales module (when Account is selected from the left nav pane) and replace it
with a custom "New Account" button? I need to do this, because our client

Send Direct E-Mail as another User
I apologise if someone has posted this before but I've looked everywhere and
cannot find an answer to this one.
I am trying to send a direct email template as another user and I am having
issues. There issue is to do with assigning as another user. Here is the
process that I am following.
1. I select the records (contacts or accounts) that I wish to send the email
to.
2. I select Actions -> Send Direct E-Mail
3. I select the appropriate template that I wish to send
4. I select the Option to Send Direct e-mail to: Selected Items on this page
5. I select the magnifing glass at the right of User/Queue: to select the
Send direct e-mail from: field
6. In the Look Up Records Window I select the Go button and I see only my
own Username.
No matter of searching (ie entering correct user names or wild characters)
will result in another User Name being displayed.
I have tried adding Users to teams/Territories they are all in the same
Business Unit. I have tried from a System Administrator account however none
of these have resulted in another user being displayed.
I haven't found any documentation on the configuration of this if anyone has
a solution to this it would be very helpful.

Picklist 'type ahead' feature
When a custom picklist is added to a form, the user has to scroll to select
the appropriate entry. My users are frustrated that this product does not
act in the same way other MS products do...begin typing in the field and the
picklist advances based on the letter(s) typed. I have one field that has

We just published customizations from our Sandbox to our real Test
environment. Looks like all of the customizations came across. However, I
am having issues with some of the views. For example when I go into the
Settings --> Business Unit --> Business Unit screen I get the error below.

Billing from time spent on cases
I am really in need of a add-on piece to CRM that would allow our company
(and our clients, for that matter) to bill based on time spent on a
particular case. Specifically, I'm looking for Technical Support-based time
billing and Legal time billing.
We're looking for CRM to automatically compile hours for a given customer
and then, after progressing through a billable time review process, generate
invoices. I think I've heard that that functionality was originally going to
be handled by Great Plains, but many of our small clients are looking for CRM
and the capabilities mentioned above without having to adopt GP as well.

I'm trying to find any written support info on any conflct between CRM Sales
For Outlook and the Windows Mobile Pocket PC Syncronizer software. It is
nice to have your Pocket PC sync to Outlook even though it's not synced to
CRM. Yet there seems to be a conflict that kills the CRM Outlook Menus when
the Win Mobile Syncronizer is installed. Anybody have any ideas?

Opportunity (estimatedvalue)
Hi,
Ive added a custom webpage via the ISV to the left panel of the
opportunity. Depending on some criteria, I may update the value of
"EstimatedValue" field.
I would like it to :
- Update/Refresh when I click the "Information" tab at the top.
- I would like it not to recalculate it via system. (in fact I would
have liked to remove the "Calculated from system / user defined" choice
but I'm unable to remove it from the form.
Can I place it to forced "user defined" so it never gets overriden by
the system?

Some workflow rules not working
I have a Sales process that works like a charm, and Case routing to Queues is
also working great. Two other rules that used to work are no longer working.
The only change recently was a power failure last week, but no error messages
were logged and all services are running. I've restarted them as well, to no

Beter WEB Access Login page like OWA
Is there a third party add-on or a option from Microsoft to add a better web
access login page like Exchange OWA has? I want to publish this via the
internet for remote sales users, but wont do this until I can secure it via
SSL. I am working right now on a SSL certificate for this process but would

error in reporting service
when i restart the crm server the crysatl APS service allows stop and it must
be started manualy
in the event vewier i found tis errore after restarting the crm server

Error: The root element is missing
After publishing a customization I cannot open any objects (contact, account,
lead etc). The object popup-window shows Error. I can click around in the
system but not open up any objects or create new. I have tried to import an
old customization and iisreset etc but without any result.
I turned on the more extensive error message in the web.config file. This is
the result:
