Hi

We have an environment where we are running CRM 3.0 on SQL 2000 on the SBS
version(on the same machine). We want to upgrade to CRM 4.0 but on a new
machine.

Can someone please advise me the series of steps that i need to follow. I am
not sure where to start. My guess is that I need to migrate the database from
SQL 2000 - SQL 2005 first and then install CRM but how do i migrate from SQL
2000 to SQl 2005.

I would really appreciate some expert suggestions here.

Kind Regards
Snow White

Here are the high level steps:

1. Setup your new SBS R2 enviornment (review with your IT Admin or partner)
2. Redeploy your current CRM 3.0 to the new SBS R2 environment (review the
redeployment guide on CRM 3.0 Server CD/download)
3. Upgrade the redeployed CRM 3.0 on the new SBS R2 to 4.0 (review 4.0
implementation guide for upgrade)

There are alot of steps involved, highly recommend you back everything if
you are trying it out the first time.

Good luck.

Thank you Frank. One of the steps in Redeployment is to install AD and SQL on
the new box. Can i install SQL 2005 or do i have to install SQL 2000 and then
after redeploying upgrade to SQL 2005.

I look forward to your suggestion.

I would just install sql 2005 on your new server and restore your 3.0
database from your SQL 2000 backups. Follow this:

There are a few options here.

1. Is the new machine setting up with SBS R2 from scratch?

2. Are you just migrating your current SBS to a new Server? and then upgrade
to R2 Premium (SQL Server 2005)?

If it is a brand new SBS R2, then after it is setup properly, it will have
the AD and SQL 2005 in place for your CRM redeployment

I highly recommend working with a SBS partner to setup/migrate the SBS
environment properly.

Hey there Bud. How's SF, ok.

So why not the data migration utility?

I know, it's a pain.
But I think a fresh install and data migration might be a help.
We did it with some dev environments. It wasn't pretty.

Well if you migrate the databases over to the new server, don't forget to
upgrade them to SQL version 9.0.
You can do it in the StudioMangement Utility.
