80040e14 error when installing Microsoft CRM - to Ryan...
Hello Ryan,
Since I am trying to install MS CRM on a SBS2K enviroment, I do not have an
installation enviroment that has multiple domain controllers. So I have
tried the solution of the second primary cause but it did not work.
I have uninstalled SQL, deleted the files that can not be uninstalled,
reinstalled the SQL and SP2 then installed CRM. Unfortunately I have
received the same 80040e14 error while creating the metabase db.
Any further comments?

MSCRM Integration to eEnterprise
Hi
I am looking into standard MSCRM integration with Great Plains eEnterprise.
We have MSCRM V1.0 here (in the UK) and are waiting with baited breath for
the international release V1.2 in December. I understand that there is a
standard integration shipped on CD to US partners, but obviously as MSCRM is
not yet released over here we cannot get hold of it. I am not too bothered
regarding the eEnterprise release as we have V7.0 & 7.5.
I am trying to get ahead of the game and see what the integration consists
of (are the touchpoints the same as the old GPSFO?) and would like to get
hold of the document on the CD 'Microsoft CRM Integration for Great Plains
Guide.pdf'. I have trawled Great Plains PartnerSource but can't find a
dickie bird on this.
Can anyone give me anymore info on the standard integration, or even better,
email the above document to me, or dump it somewhere for download?

Microsoft these questions and so far have received no
satisfaction.

Update Data Import
I was able to import some account data from GoldMine 6.0
into MSCRM. However none of the custom field information
that I placed in the cdf_account_ext table appears in
MSCRM. Is there a way to update information already in
the MSCRM database, by matching on a unique value? In
fact, I am not sure how the data that is placed into each
CDF entity table is linked to one another, so that data
placed in the cdf_<entity> and the cdf_<entity>_ext are
properly related.
Also has anyone found any good reference books for MSCRM,
other than what you can glean from msdn?

CRM Email = SPAM
Its only been 2 weeks since we let our users run wild with the Email
functionality of CRM. And already we have 2 customers that have rejected all
CRM Email as spam.
I don't think there is much I can do....................but I just wanted to
say that this system has once again disappointed us...
Call me crazy but I believe email functionality/integration with a CRM is a
key feature (if not the very driving force for some CRM systems/policies).
This is right up there with the "promote to email" function that destroys
all formatting of an email, making it next to useless (unless you want your
eyes strained, and complaints coming from all sides of the equation).

80040e14 error when installing Microsoft CRM

Hello Everyone
Reading some of the recent posts, I wanted to take a moment to talk =
about the 80040e14 error when installing Microsoft CRM. There are 2 =
primary causes of the error that we have found in support. In a large =
environment with multiple domain controllers the 80040e14 error is a =
result of The Microsoft CRM installation failing as a result of Active =
Directory replication not replicating to all Domain Controllers in a =
timely fashion, prior to the Microsoft CRM installation getting to the =
point where it is installing the SQL users. It is possible that the SQL =
Server is referencing a Domain Controller that has not yet replicated =
the CRM Active Directory container. =20
We have 2 resolutions to this issue until it is resolved in an upcoming =
release.=20
Resolution 1 - Force replication to all domain controllers at the =
beginning of the Microsoft CRM installation, immediately after the =
installation wizard has installed any pre-requisite applications (such =
as .NET framework or XML Parser). Please wait until the installation is =
actually installing the first part of Microsoft CRM, which is the =
creation of the Organization Unit within Active Directory.
1. Go to Start Button | Programs| Administrative Tools | Active =
Directory Sites and Services Manager.
2. Double-click the Sites folder to expand it. There should be at least =
one site labeled Default-First-Site-Name. This may differ if you have =
manually configured additional sites.
3. Expand the Default-First-Site icon, expand the Servers folder, and =
then expand the given Active Directory server to find the NTDS Settings =
icon.
4. Click the NTDS Settings icon. One or more objects is listed in the =
right pane. One of those objects is a link to the domain controller you =
want. You can see the Friendly names by right-clicking an entry and =
viewing the name. One of the objects points to the domain controller you =
want. Right-click that entry, and then click Replicate Now. The =
replication is performed immediately, but your network performance =
influences the time it takes to update the target controller.
Forcing replication should allow your Microsoft CRM Server installation =
to complete successfully now.
Resolution 2 - Shut down all domain controllers except for the domain =
controller which has the Global Catalog Server. Once the CRM Server =
installation is completed, re-start the remaining domain controllers and =
continue configuring Microsoft CRM.
The second primary cause of the issue is a result the .mdf and .ldf =
files associated with the Microsoft CRM Server install Organization name =
within <system drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data may =
have not been deleted.
To resolve, Microsoft CRM will need to be uninstalled using the =
Uninstall Steps in Appendix C of the Implementation Guide, making sure =
that the .mdf and .ldf files have been deleted.
To verify the .mdf and .ldf files are removed:
1. Navigate to <system drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL =
Server\MSSQL\Data
2. Verify the following .mdf and .ldf files that are associated with =
your Microsoft CRM Organization Name (the Organization Name that you =
installed Microsoft CRM with) have been deleted.
- <organization_name>_METABASE.mdf
- <organization_name>_METABASE.ldf
- <organization_name>_MSCRM.mdf
- <organization_name>_MSCRM.ldf
- <organization_name>_CRYSTAL.mdf
- <organization_name>_CRYSTAL.ldf
For example, if Microsoft CRM is installed with the Organization Name =
Adventure Works Cycle, an .mdf or .ldf file name would look like:
Adventure_Works_Cycle_MSCRM.mdf
3. Once these are removed, install Microsoft CRM again.
Any questions on this please let me know.

CRM and Great Plains Overlap?
This post is for someone that knows both GP and CRM.
I am working a prospect that will be getting GP (from someone else) and they
have seen me demo CRM.
CRM looks real good except that they are saying GP accounting has pretty
good opportunity management built into.
We are trying to figure where and how much CRM and GP overlap for both sales
and service as compared to just integrating - product catalog comes from GP
into CRM. Orders and invoice are driven out of GP when quote is accepted in
CRM.
Since we don't know GP we are trying to get a handle on it.
The prospect is wondering how much more they will be getting for CRM which
will run them 1/2 again their GP installation.

promiting a plain text, html, and RTF type emails and they all come out
ugly. Whats worse/stupid is that you can't copy/paste into the newly
promoted email because its read only.
Any ideas?

CDF Migration from Goldmine
We ahve only been using Goldmine in a limited way for about 3 months and I
thought the data transfer would be job completed in an afternoon, how wrong
I was.
I can not see what my problem is but it must be fundemental, which makes me
think I must be missing some documentation or something.
To start with I am trying to copy data into the Account table in the CDF,
which in the case of Goldmine comes from the Contact1 table. The first
field in the "GoldMineToCDFMapping.xls" is the RECID field from Goldmine to
the AccountID field in the Account table, the only problem is that the
AccountID field is defined as an integer and the RECID as a text field. Now
this is just not sensible and of course doesnt work.
I know I can work around this field (and probably any others that I find),
but as it seems such a fundemental issue I think I must be missing
something.
Any pointers to where I should look would be most apprecated.
Kindest Regards

Dependent Pick list
I'd like to make a parent-child relationship between two picklists. Based
on the value of Picklist1, the values of picklist2 would be limited.
This is already done with the Statecode and Statuscode fields under Cases.
Is anyone aware of using scripting on the picklist event or custom code that
would allow us to create this parent-child relationship between picklists?

CRM and reports
Somes reports are working like a charm and somes other are not.
ie the "activity list" report give me that error :
Error encountered by Crystal PageServer
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
The error message returned is:
Error detected by database DLL. [On Cache/Page Server: APP6450.pageserver]
The activity list by status is working for the first page. When I go to
second page sometimes it works sometime it's not. It's really a random
error.
Error encountered by Crystal PageServer

The error message returned is:
Crystal Reports: Print Engine Error [On Cache/Page Server:

Nothing went wrong during the installation I was able to change the password

CRM Customisation Activity.RetrieveByParty and date problem
Hi,
I've been trying to create a custom calendar form that uses the
activity.RetrieveByParty method to get the appointment activities for a
certain time period. I've successfully retrieved the activities after a
given date, but limiting the returned XML to activities before a given date
throws an error. I've tried all sorts of date formats (As strings) with no
luck. my code looks like this (VB):
sResult = oActivity.RetrieveByParty(oUserAuth, oObj, mystartdate, myenddate,
activityTypes, activityStates, activityPartyTypes, strColumnSetXml)
Startdate and endate are both strings, derived from dates passed from the
calling function. Startdate is handled fine. But when enddate is anything
other blank ("") I get the error as below:
ErrorMessage: SOAP Server Application Faulted 80040201Invalid XML.The
datetime is not valid in attribute
'scheduledstart'd:\mscrm\build\3017\src\platform\include\omcore\qb\querycomm
on.inl195 Source: System.Web.Services
If anyone could throw any light as to how the enddate is supposed to be
passed, that would really help me out.
Cheers

detailed customization
Hi,
Just started looking at MS CRM. We have a client who has started using it
and want us to do major customizations. I have already added a few custom
forms (in the form of external asp.net applications).
I want some more info (I have searched this NG and didn't find and
conclusive answers) what I want to know is:
1. Can I add a new entity like the built-in entities and then link
(mapping?) the new entity to a built-in entity? Basically what I want is to
add a new table in the database and then have the ability to create objects
accessible through the proxy dll. If it is not possible then what would be
the best way/workaround to do this?
2. This is a continuation to the one above. I know I can add custom fields
to the schema. How can I add custom tables to the schema. Then I want to
add custom forms (list and detail forms) based on the custom tables. Can
this be done while staying within the *supported* territory?
3. There is a basic css stylesheet provided on MSDN for the UI. But it is
not detailed enough. How can I get the same UI for lists with the refresh
button on the upper right and the column sorting feature (with the sorted
column highlighted)?
thanks in advance.

CRM Sales For Outlook cannot find Server instance...
Hi
I've successfully installed CRM Server on a pc with OS Windows 2000 and also
acting as a Domain Controller. I'm running Adventure Works Cycle and have
added 6 users.
All is fine and dandy until I try and install Sales for Outlook on a Virtual
PC(Connectix) running Windows 2000. It cannot seem to find an instance of
the crm server. If I ping the server pc, it is visible on the client vpc.
Active Directory also shows this vpc. All permissions are added to the user
that is logged onto the client pc, according to the IG.
All crm security services SqlServer services on the server are running.
Any further suggestions are desperately welcome.
Thanks in advance.

MICROSOFT? WAKE UP YA LAZY BASTID
As mentioned in a thread today its been stated (and highly obvious) that
this newsgroup is our ONLY hope of resolving YOUR issues. The *very* least
you can do is keep it clean.
Hello?
I'm not even asking for you to answer our questions (despite the amount we
paid and the issues we've had you REALLY should), but just clean up the spam
that comes to us, is that really hard? no seriously, talk to me. As of right
NOW, today there have been 9 threads started and 4 of them were way
off-topic, and if my college level calculus still serves me, thats 44%
off-topic posts were getting.
Hello?
Can you at least allow someone to be a moderator? I personally nominate Matt
Parks or John O'Donnell. Why can't you do this? No seriously. Talk to me.
Hello?

We have heard that 1.2 will give us multi-lingual support so that CRM can be
deployed in other countries beyond the USA. Also 1.2 will give us support
for the 2003 products such as Server 2003, office 2003 etc.
Beyond that there are no other details regarding additional features etc.
December has been given as the release date for MSCRM 1.2 but of course
release dates can and do slip so we will just have to wait and see
