    - subject entity customization seems impossible Hi everybody, I hoped I could change the name of the "subject" entity. However, this entity, as well as other customizable entities does not seem to allow customization of any information that appears on the general tab of the informations menu item. How may I change this name ? I tried another method, namely, "export customization", modify the name in the xml file and then "import customization". However, it seems impossible to publish this customization, so that the entity name quickly reverts to its previous value. Thank you to anyone who can help me achieve this goal.     - Updating data in MS CRM from other places Hi all We use relationships extensively but find that when using Advanced Find we can't define the joins necessary to create the set of Contacts required for a marketing list. (I think it would be good if I could save an Advanced Find, and then be able to use that within another Advanced Find - like a sub-query - but that's another matter). Anyway, as a quick solution, I have used queries in MS Access to identify the list of Contacts required. I have customised, adding a new field to the Contact table, and want to be able to set this field from in MS Access on those Contact rows I've identified - I can then use Advanced Find over this field, and build the marketing list I want. However, it won't let me I guess because they're non-updateable filtered views in Access ... Can anyone tell me the easiest/best workaround for this? We have Scribe (although not experienced) and of course I could go to Enterprise Manager and run the UPDATE query in there - want to avoid this if possible.     - Error when using Workflow assembly I created an assembly and added the reference to the workflow.config file. I stopped and started the IIS and the workflow service. Then I created a workflow rule that uses the new assembly. However when the workflow starts to run I generate an error on the workflow monitor saying that the dll appears to be an unsigned assembly which is disabled from executing as specified in workflow.config.     - 3.0 Laptop Client Install Failing Having a heck of a time getting the Outlook client to install on any of the client machines. Starting with a single notebook, I get the following error when installing from SBS or directly from the CD. An incompatible version of the Microsoft CRM desktop client for Outlook or the Microsoft CRM laptop client for Outlook is already installed on this computer: Product: Microsoft CRM laptop client for Microsoft Office Outlook, Version: 3.0.5300.0, User: . Before continuing the current installation, remove the incompatible version. All other test are green checked. 3.0 is the only version ever to be installed on this notebook. I have never gotten the client to show up in Add Remove Programs. The only CRM reference on the notebook is the MSDE SQL CRM that I have uninstalled/reinstalled numerous times. I also have tried removing all registry lines containing 3.0.5300 in them and those referencing CRM. In addition the Microsoft SQL and Microsoft CRM folder are deleted before each reinstall attempt. I don't know why, even if something was missed in the registry, the program will not allow an overinstall of the same version......? Any help would be appreciated.     - Outlook client does not stop synchronizing Hi There, I have rolled out CRM 3 on a clients SBS 2003 server without issues, but I am having problems with one of the client machines. There have been 3 clients installed so far without issue, only this machine is causing headaches. The installation goes ahead without issue, but when you open outlook for the first time it appears to hang and becomes non responsive. I let it run for almost two hours only to find by looking at the network card that there has been 4Gb sent and 8Gb received. The database itself has around 5000 records (made up of leads, accounts, contacts,etc...), but the user I am installing for has a mailbox of just over 2Gb (I only do crm for this company, actual IT support is handled by someone else). The laptop is brand new and the user has had it for around a month without having any problems. I will be back on the clients site in a few hours, until then I do not have any log files or anything, just wanted to see if someone else had a similar issue.     - Add a Picklist to a Contact Address form in the metadata attribute I am trying to add a picklist item called country to the contacts address. I have already added it to the entity address. I then went to the attribute table and created two records that follow the format of shipping methods two records. One for the Code Value and the other for the name of the value selected in the picklist. Next I went into the settings and then contact entity and clicked on attributes and found my picklist for country was there. If I double clicked on the picklist it does not have a display name or any values. If I try to add a display name and save it I get an error because I am missing records that attach this picklist with the one in address table. I checked the other tables in the metadata database and there does not seem to be any other table I need to add records to. What other tables do I need to add records to and how can I get my custom picklist on the contact for country to tie to the picklist on the address table. What is the schema layout to support the entities and the forms for these entities? I know what I am wanting to do is unsupported but I need country and state as picklist for the contact and Account.     - Creating new contacts also creates contacts in Outlook Hi, I have a question regarding contacts. I have created a client contact in CRM and when going into my personal contacts in Outlook (My Contacts), the new client contact has been saved in My Contacts area along with my existing personal contacts.     - Object refererence & user manager Like many here I've been pulling my hair out trying to get CRM upgraded from 1.2 to 3.0. I'm gettting closer I think but now when I open configuration manager and navigate to the the user manager node, I get an error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" It appears to happen when the list of configured users is being populated and the list remains blank. When I try to add a user, the progress bar indictaes that 1 of X users is being configured and configuration manager closes altogether. The licenses node indicates that three licenses are installed. When I open the site in IE, I get an authentication error no matter what account I use that was previously configured for 1.2. Is there a way to mnually remove te 3 licenses and their associated users so that maybe user manager will populate properly? All users have first and last names. Any other thoughts? TIA!     - Enable Drag and Drop in the Service Scheduling Calendar The Service Scheduling Calendar provides a visual representation of scheduled activities but does not lend itself to real life situations e.g., an engineer has gone off sick and the scheduler has to assign jobs to various other engineers quickly or there has been a traffic holdup and there is a knock on effect. Enabling drag and drop of scheduled activities both in horizontally (date/time) and vertically (resources) would vastly improve the usability.     - USING CRM I am new to MSCRM. I have installed CRM1.2 and Find that I have workflow monitor, workflow manager, and deployment manager. When I launch workfolow monitor or workflow manager I get the error, "the localhost is not responding. This might happen if is currently unavailable or is not a microsoft CRM Server. For more information, contact your system administrator". I try the ip address of the server and the server name and SQL Server name and get the same error. I am following along the task list provided by John O'Donnell in another discussion. When I click to distribute the activity (launched from Outlook) I get a message box that states "Direct email via mail merge is off. The activity cannot be distributed.     - Export to Excel problem Hello all I have tried to export a list to Excel. I click on the Excel button, and I am asked whether I want to open or save the file. If I cancel, CRM closes. If I click open, Excel opens, gets populated and then CRM closes. If I click save i get prompted to save the list, Excel opens with the data and CRM closes.     - Upgrading from 1.2 to 3.0 with PowerTrack Installed Just wondering if anyone out there has upgraded to 3.0 with PowerTrack installed. We are hoping that 3.0 has the functionality we gained from PowerTrack, natively. My gut seems to think that it might be better to do a fresh install and try to migrate the data from 1.2 into 3.0. Is there a process for this? If there is, can I have 2 installations of MSCRM 1.2 & 3.0 running at the same time in the same domain.     - Queue to a case Relates to the Service Module in CRM. I have set up Queues in the CRM module to which users can send emails from their desktop. I would like some of these emails to be converted to a CASE, automatically with some basic fields filled in from the email content.     - Please Help! Workflow question I have roughly 3,000 new leads coming into CRM 1.2 (we havent upgraded yet) and each of these gets an automated response.     - Miscellaneous javascript warnings (on Firepass 5.5) CRM 3.0. We are getting inconsistent javascript errors when our remote users attempt certain actions. Some of the places in the application that seem the most consistent in throwing errors: * Clicking the New Lead button on the lead entity list * Clicking New, New Lead, on the CRM menu at the top * Clicking the Calendar icon on the left Some of the javascript errors that we are experiencing: 'ORG_DATE_START_DAY' is undefined (on line 71 of the /calendar/day.aspx page) 'ORG_DATE_FORMAT' is undefined (on line 103 of the /calendar/day.aspx page) 'Could not complete the operation due to error 80020101' (line 762 of the /_nav/menu.htc page) Just posting this to see if anyone else has experienced similar issues. Full disclosure: We are running CRM for our external users through an HTTP proxy on a VPN appliance called a Firepass (by F5 Networks). These errors only seem to occur when running CRM through the VPN appliance, and only for certain users. Microsoft has already told us that this is an unsupported configuration, not because they KNOW it won't work, but just because they haven't had the chance to test every possible deployment configuration. It required some extensive configuration on the proxy to get it to work at all. We had to upgrade the Firepass software to v5.5 which supports a "full pass-through mode" for complex web apps.     - Creditting an invoice We need this feature! Today our account was explaining the differnce between -5 + 1 = -1 and -3 - 1 = -4, which is the result of one of the supported work arrounds (using discounts). Needless to say he didn't like it, which means I still need a way to solve this. Though there are serval workarrounds including one which actually allows you to enter a negative price per unit (this requires some direct SQL), there is no supported way to pay customers back or return products AND register this in CRM.     - Mapping Picklist Fields I am trying to map between the account industry field and a custom field in the accounts contacts. I have set up the same fields in both picklists but when I create a new contact I ony get the underlying value equal to the value in the accounts picklist.     - Report error -- CRM 3.0 Hi I have done some modification on MSCRM database in order to change the Business Unit information. I have modified several tables regarding this matter, but I havenâ??t done any modification the ReportServer database.     - Opportunity Why is an opportunity always linked to a lead, contact or organization and is not a real entity? I Do have the problem that we differentiate between prospects and real customers, so normally I would create an opportunity as a firm for my opportunities. This .net page is called from an iframe inside the entity form. This works fine on the server. a day ?

I am also experincing problems with mails being held up by MS C-360 any
ideas ????

How many Accounts & Contacts will you have?

1,400 Cases/day will be fairly high volume. Sizing the DB server is the
key, not the app server. With moving the security into the DB, v3.0 seems
to place a heavier load on the SQL machine. I would exstimate out your
projected DB size over the next few years and then figure out what kind of
horsepower to throw at the DB. Consider 64-bit SQL & a lot of RAM though.
