    - Form switch hi folk, I try to make a switch between different smart device forms. The first form i open with _form= new CSimpleFinderForm(); Application.Run(_form); it works.     - Throw exception means ShowDialog doesn't halt execution. I have an application running on PocketPC which is controlled by a while loop - child forms are opened using Reflection and before they close raise an event to set the type of the next form to open. The code for this control stuff is attached below. In the child form that is opened if I raise an exception (After form load as finished, i.e. wire up a button to an event handler and in that handler throw a System.Exception.) this is correctly caught by the code below but code execution doesn't stop on the ShowDialog() line, instead the form which i am opening to report the exception is being disposed immediately so that the user never sees it.     - Delay in WaitCursor to Display Hello, I have a static method on an object that I call to set the screen cursor. When I call the static method, there's a noticeable delay between when I change the cursor state in the code and when the change appears on the screen (approximately 1/4). -------------------------------------- public static void SetWaitCursor(bool bSetWaitCursor) { if (bSetWaitCursor == true) Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor; else Cursor.Current = Cursors.Default; } -------------------------------------- Is it normal to have this length of delay?     - PasswordDeriveBytes Hi all, I want to use TripleDES encryption in my pocket pc app. The server app is using the full .net framework with the cryptographic namespaces. On the PPC I am using opennetcf. If I'll enter 192 i'll get a 24 bit key, 128 bit will generate 16 bit key etc. If i'll vary the keysize at the CF, i'll ALWAYS get a key of 8 bits NO MATTER WHAT the keysize value is. And even if I generate a 8 bit key at both sides (with the same basedata, e.g. challengestring and password) both keys never match. Anyone has a clue on this?     - passing C# structs (with array) to unmanaged C++ (DLL) Hi since no forum can't help me, I hope this one does My Problem I have to use an unmanaged C++-DLL (Windows CE), which I do import by P/Invoke in my C# project. One of the DLL-functions needs as a parameter a reference to a struct.     - Cannot establish connection... Hi. I seem to be the latest victim of the "Cannot establish connection" problem...I have been developing using VS.NET 2003 without any problems for some time now. However, last night my PDA battery ran down, so I charged it up, and the next time I tried to deploy/debug my application VS could not connect. I have not removed, reinstalled or done anything else to ActiveSync on my development machine, nor indeed any other software. I have not changed anything on the device. I have tried warm-boots, cold-boots, reboots of development machine. I have tried everything I can find on the internet to rectify the problem (proxyports.reg, deldesktopcryptkeys.exe, etc. etc.) to no avail. At one point, I copied toolhelp.dll from the CE utilities to the device, and it worked. But within minutes it had gone wrong again. Trying the same again makes no difference.     - Class Library for CF and .NET Framework I'm trying to build a class library that can be used for .NET framework desktop windows applications as well as .NET Compact Framework apps. The class library needs to make use of a web service. I created the project for the class library using the Smart Device Application option in the wizard and things work properly for smart device apps that consume my class library; however, when I try to use the same class library with a .NET windows application, I get a runtime exception when I access the web service. The message is: An unhandled exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in system.web.services.dll Am I trying to do something that can not be done? Otherwise I guess I'll have to have separate builds of my class library - one for CF applications and another for windows apps. Does that make sense? Is there another way?     - Flickering Textbox Hello I've developed an application in VB. NET where the text in a textbox is either frequently appended or altered. Now everytime text is added to the textbox the cursor goes to the beggining of the screen and then comes back down which makes the textbox flicker. Since the textbox is a multiline textbox the problem becomes more visible when the scrollbars are visible. What can I do to fix this problem.     - Speed improvements with datadapter.fill? Hi. I would really appreciate any advice anyone could provide in regards to dataadapter fill performance. I've tried to render all of the tricks I can to get the adapter to fill this particular dataset more quickly. I've done some tracing and found that the datadapter "fill" line is taking 18 seconds, just to fill 900 rows of data. I'd like to have up to 10,000 rows in the dataset, but not with this type of performance. Some additional info: The dataset (DS) contains just a single table (TP). There are ten columns in TP, two of them being guids, and some nvarchar columns of 10-20 chars each.     - HTTPWebRequest Slow using CDMA 2000 - SPRINT PCS- HITACH G1000 Can anyone confirm why an HTTPWebRequest would be so slow over Wireless WAN, yet when using Pocket IE to visit the same site is so much faster? Consider the code below to determine whether or not a server is available. Also assume that the url is a high availabilty and low or no traffic server for this test. If I issue the request below, this takes on the order of 7 to 50 seconds, varying wildly with each request. If I issue the "same" request with Pocket IE, the response is always consistently below 5 seconds. Same poor performance with web service calls. I also have another unit which is a Symbol 2837 over GPRS, and also another with a Sierra Wirelss Aircard 550 using CDMA over Sprint PCS. Saqme losuy results. Does there exist some fundamental difference between DOTNET COMPACT, DOTNET DESKTOP, and Pocket IE's requests over wide area WANS?     - Registry entry preventing .NET from starting I've come across a situation that prevents my .net from starting. Let me start by saying that my app runs fine with no problems. Then I installed Time & Expenses from a company called Cyncware. After installing this app my application no longer booted. After some analysis I find that no .NET apps run. I compared my registry to the original registry before the Cyncware was installed and I found that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\Crypto\Defaults\Provider\Microsoft Enhanced Cryptographic Provider v1.0 has a key called 'Signature' and its value was changed. So I changed it back to the original value and my .NET apps run again. However Time & Expenses now complains that Visual Basic runtimes are not installed. I'm not familure with Cryptographic so I have no clue how this Registry key is used. The key value is very long so having someone manually re-enter it is not a good idea. My product is a commercial application so I can't tell my customers what they can and cannot install on their devices. On my device I just don't use Cyncware products (although this issue is not their fault). Oh by the way, I'm testing on a Windows Mobile 2003 device. My 2002 device ignores the value in this Registry key (I completely blanked it out, did a soft reset and it still ran). Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.     - Compact Framework bug? I'm think I might have found a bug in the Compact Framework (I'm using v1.0 sp2). I've written a method that: - creates a DOM object - Imports and appends some nodes contained in a number of XML files - writes the DOM object out to a new XML file When I run this on a Pocket PC - or even on an emulator - the method eats up fair amount of memory, but does not release it at the end, even if I explitly collect all garbage. And it seems to cause knock-on effects - the MSDN PocketGuid code starts to throw an exception. I've run the exact same code on a Windows PC, and the memory is released after the method exits. I used a profiler (couldn't find one for the CF) to check this - lots of strings and XmlText objects, all being released when they should be. So, my questions are these: - can anyone from Microsoft confirm this is a CF bug? No-one else seems to have reported it, so I'm a bit cautious about this - has anyone else found this? - if so, have they found a better workaround than I have?     - SQLServerCe error- Not Enough storage is available to complete this operation I am at a loss with this one. I am populating a database with fewer than 300 records on a clean table. However, at about the 100/120th record I get the error message: Not Enough storage is available to complete this operation. To track down the error I set a button up to keep populating the records manually, what I found is that if I re-run my app and read in the previous data in to a list then populate it I don't get the error as much as I do from the start.     - Unknown error message Dear all, I have received the following error message that I can't figure out the reason for that. It is happening just because of the difference of adding one textbox. If I delete the textbox, things run correctly. However, after I add back that textbox, the following error occured. An unhandled exception of type 'System.NotSupportedException' occurred in MBaroque.exe *The error has highlighted the windows autogenerated part. InitializeComponent() I can confirmed that I have not repeated naming for different controls.     - Problem with Pointer returned by MapViewOfFile Hi, I'm pretty new to C#, but experienced with eVC++. We're in the process of migrating from CE 3.00 to CE.Net 4.2. Our applications are in machine control. A server application manages process data and returns information to other applications via an ActiveX control which communicates with the server through a memory mapped file. I'm looking at converting the ActiveX control to C#. I'm having a problem with how to handle the pointer to returned by MapViewOfFile. In the original application I could cast the void pointer returned by MapViewOfFile to a structure designed to fit the type of process information that was placed in the memory mapped file. The structure being used varies depending on the type of process data being returned. Can someone point me in the right direction?     - Visual Bug : Treeview inside a Tab Hi all, I'm now two weeks into development of my app, and things are largely going well. Despite some small flaws, this stuff rocks. I think I'm about half way. When we did this on the Palm platform, it took over 3 months! Anyway, one thing that I have noticed that is irritating me is this - I have a tab control, and within the tab area I have a treeview, which fills the tabs window. Except that it doesn't quite fill it. The largest I can make it leaves 6 or 7 pixels to the right, and 4 or 5 pixels at the bottom unfilled. If I try and make it larger, the IDE tells me it's too big and resizes it back. This is just annoying as I would like to "fill the screen" with the treeview. I actually have not tried resizing it in code. Perhaps I should give that a go.... Is anyone else aware of this limitation and/or know away around this? Is this fixed in the next version?     - OpenNETCF's XmlSerializer Ok, so I understand you have to have properties to use OpenNETCF's XmlSerializer and I have way too much code to go back and use: public duh { get } { set } So I've reversed my course and decided to use the .net framework on a regular pc to do the serializing, but the deserializer won't work either, I'm guessing for the same reason.     - Sort DataView according to Integer So I have a listBox whose datasource is a DataView. I sort the DataView according to a sequenceNumber. Each entry has a different sequenceNumber. For example : 1,2,3,4,8,9,11,12,14,22,35 etc... The big problem is that DataView seems to convert this sequenceNumber (which by the way is an integer) into a string before using it to sort the DataView. So here's what I get : 1,11,12,14,2,22,3,35,4,8,9 etc... So yeh - really not what I'm expecting... I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using F5 networks bigIP together with the compact framework.
DNS resolution seems to be pretty slow with it and i'm trying to see if anyone has any experience.
