    - DbDataAdapter I'm writting a db adapter for ADO.NET for PocketPC. when I try to compile I have plenty of stupid error such as DbAdapter not found. although, according to the documentation, DbAdapter is in System.Data.Common namespace, in System.Data.dll and IS defined in the compact framework. curiously when I browse the System.Data.dll with the object browser I can't see the System.Data.Common namespace , and therefore, I can't see DbDataAdapter either.     - Error creating new project Hi, I install a new verions of VS.net architert 2003 and I got this error when starting a smart device(Pocket) app. An ASP.NET or a Windows forms app works fine: The designer could not be shown for this file because none of the classes within it can be designed.     - Uppercase Text Box - again... Hi, I know this has been asked before (even by me), but... How do I implement this given MS nuked the uppercase flag? I tried "this.Text = this.Text.ToUpper()", when the text changes, but the caret moves back to beginning of the string and looks bad (jumpy) if I then move it to the end; i.e. caret jumps from end to beginning to end. I was hoping to use BeginUpdate, but TextBox does not have that. I then tried OnKeyDown and tried to set KeyChar, but that's read only.     - P/Invoke to CreateWindowEx() I'm trying to create a native custom window through managed code. Essentially I want to wrap a native custom window class into a managed custom control. So I tried calling the Win32 API CreateWindowEx() using P/Invoke. This API takes a parent window handle and since .NETCF's controls do not expose a handle, I created a MessageWindow object and passed its HWnd member to CreateWindowEx(). I obtained the instance handle through another Win32API GetModuleHandle(null). The call to CreateWindowEx() succeeds and I get a window handle as the return value. However the window never shows up on the form! The same code works fine on the desktop. The only change being that the parent window handle is actually the Form.Handle member.     - How do you get the Compact Framework onto a PocketPC? Hi I have developed a simple app for a pocket PC2002 (tested on the emulator) - but now, I have to get the Compact Framework installed on the Device so that I can run my app. I tried through VS.NET2003, but when i deploy to the actual device it says it cant establish a connection (even though ActiveSync3.7 can establish a connection!) So The alternative is to install the framework onto the PocketPC manually. But how do you do this? The redistributable on the Microsoft site seems to be for installing on a regular PC.     - can't trap the action button event while moving over the items in the listview control Hi All, I'm using a listview control, in which items can be traversed up and down by using the action button. However, I'm not able to trap this traversal or event by the action button. Though I'm able to use the listView.SelectedIndexChanged event, but in this event, I'm not able to get the selected Item property.. if I use listView.SelectedIndices[0] property, it gives me a System Out of Range exception.. MSDN advises SelectedItems property to use, but it isn't supported by .NET CF. Is there a way where I can get to move through the items up and down and then perform any action related to it..     - Dispose(bool) not getting called I have a large .net cf application. When the application is hidden and many other apps are opened, it appears that the clr is disposing some of the forms in my app. I say this because I an ObjectDisposedException is thrown when accessing the form. Anyway, while I understand the clr is probably trying to free up memory in response to the os asking it to, why would it dispose my forms?     - Preventing screen updates during initialisation? Due to the performance issues of Windows Forms on PPC, I am looking at the option of creating all forms during the initialisation of the main application form, or alternatively, creating all forms as required, but then maintaining the instance of the form throughout the life of the application. This is working fairly well and has resulted in much less flicker when showing a new form, either on the second showing or when all forms are created at the beginning. The problem with the initial creation remains however and even when creating the forms when the application starts, I am then seeing screen flicker whilst these forms are created even though they are not being shown. Is there a way to prevent the screen from accepting any updates whilst this initialisation is going on, and then reactivating the updates? Effectively, I am looking to "switch off" the screen whilst the forms are created, although I do not actually want to switch off and blank the screen. Cheers.     - Some Managed C++ experimants on Compact framework Hi everybody! Managed C++ is unsupported on the compact framework, but it seems to work to some extend anyway. I have tried to make a .NET libarary in MC++, and it works fine. Or at least it works fine when running it on a Pocket PC (emulator or real device) from Visual Studio. The only thing to keep in mind is to not use desktop framework specific functionallity. But when I compile the library to a stand alone DLL and then include it in a VB.NET PocketPC project I get the following error trying to compile (or deploy) the VB.NET application: Error: The dependency 'mscorlib, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=969db8053d3322ac' in project 'Foo' cannot be copied to the run directory because it would conflict with dependency 'mscorlib, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' What this error message says is basically that the libaray is depenedent on the desktop version of mscorlib and that the VB.NET app is targeted at compact framework. Therefore it refuses to compile. But... if I for example add the VB.NET app and the MC++ library to the same solution, I can run it on a real Pocket PC device if I start the execution from inside Visual Studio (pressing "Play"). Has anyone tried this with more success than I have had so far? Does anyone know if it is possible to tweek the MC++ library in some way so it claims to be depenedent on compact mscorlib instead of the desktop one?     - Joke: You can't draw strings on a common base line ...unfortunately, it's not a joke. In the .NET framework strings are drawn using the top of the bounding box as the vertical coordinate, instead of the base line which is the *only* sensible thing to do (and which, therefore, Java's AWT uses). And in the compact framework the font metrics (that allowed for a work around by shifting the string) are missing, which leads us to the conclusion: you can't draw several strings properly aligned on their common base line. The timer used is system.threading.timer and it works well EXCEPT when I call RaiseEvent to notify a windows form. There appears to be a deadlock occurring as I don't get control back to the class. This is required on a Pocket PC Application when connecting to GPRS. The same code works fine as a Windows application - have taken the liberty of including a code snippet below.     - Pocket PC autoconnect via GPRS Hello, im working on an application which connects to a ftp-server and uploads/downloads a file from it. This application runs on a pocketpc 2002. To establish a connection to the FTP i need to automatically dialup to the Inet. The Problem i have is, that the PPC connects automatically but looses the connect after it connects due to a lack of stream to the Inet. If i use the Internet Explorer on the machine it stays connected, so need to know how to start a permantent connection via GPRS with C# to use it within my application.     - Visual Inheritance & compact framework? Hi, Does anyone know how to make Visual Inheritance work using VS.NET 2003 and the .NET Compact Framework? A marketing article on msdn said its one of the benefits of VS.NET over embedded programming...However, I can't find out how to do it.
