    - How to create an application shortcut after a hard reset Hi everyone, We run a custom application on some ppc devices. The units are in constant use and occasionally the batteries run out and the units hard-reset themselves. We've manged to embedd all the cab files in the \Application directory so all the necessary programs re-install when the user changes the battery and there are registry files to reset key attributes and to block pocket pc setup etc. However, we can't work out how to put a shortcut to our menu application in "\Windows\Start Up\" folder so this loads when the units are re-started. Does anyone know how to do this? Units are Symbol 8846's running PPC2003. I appreciate this is not necessarily a CompactFramework problem so I'm sorry if anyone feels this is out of place in this this newsgroup.     - How to upgrade the CF on the development computer (using VS .NET 2003)? Hi, The installation of the ".NET CF 1.0 SP3 developer redistributable" puts the files in a separate folder. I have located the same files in the Visual Studio .NET 2003 folders (i.e. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\CompactFrameworkSDK\v1.0.5000\Windows CE\wce400\x86), but replacing those with the ones in the SP3 package does not help. Secondly not all files in this folder is upgraded by the SP3 - what package is used to upgrade the following files: sql.wce4.x86.CAB sqlce.dev.wce4.x86.CAB sqlce.wce4.x86.CAB Also the following folder seems to contain the unpacked version of all the CF files, but how should these be upgraded (and why are'nt they upgraded by the SP3 installation)?     - Studio 2005 CF cab problems Hi all, I'm having trouble building a CAB file for a CF 2 project. Done the usual steps, Added a Smart Device Deployment project to my solution, set its propertys, go to build and Always get back a message saying ; Error: CAB file "C:\Documents and Settings\DAVE\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\Project1\DeploymentCAB\Release\Project1.CAB" could not be created It's really annoying, I dont want to have to go back to using 2003 to build projects as I really like the new features in CF 2, but if I cant deploy them correctly, then theres no point. On a Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition (a real device) it seems to work fine. She got 0x80090019 on the same function call. I don't understand why there is a difference - both should be set up identically, but I guess there is something different. Finally, we tried to deploy it to a real Pocket PC device (PPC 2003 Second Edition) and it worked fine. I need the code to work on PPC 2002 onwards.     - Ftp Transfer - more than a number of files Hello I have an application developed in c# and i use it to transfer files via ftp protocol. The problem is that after a number of 13 files transfered i got a message file unavailable. I tried to bring only 13 files all si Ok. i tried to transfer 20 files from the 14th file it never brings any file. I'm using ActiveSync 3.8 from Microsoft. In searching for the answer of this problem i tried after other solutions to install a previous version of ActiveSync. When i wanted to deploy the application from Visual Studio 2003 to the device i got a message that my pocket pc is not connected even if i could connect to it from activesync/explore. So i tested the application withut deploying and sursprised it worked. all the files were transfered. Now i had to repair the problem with the deploy of application from Visual Studio 2003 to pocket pc. And i searched google for the problem and i found the solution http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813579 After i run the .reg file i could deploy the application to pocket pc but now i got the same problem with the transfer of files via FTP. Now i have isolated the problem and after several tests i understood that when visual studio is installed it adds some keys in the regsitry same as the keys in file reg presented in the article above, and from that moment the problem occurs when i transfer files via ftp from/onto pocket pc.     - Printing to file Hello everybody, I have a problem with printing in windows CE and .Net C#. I would like to print not to a printer, but to a .prn file for testing purposes.     - OutOfMemeoryException I have a Pocket PC app that is coming up with a outofmemory exception. Bacially it loads a big document and everything is enclosed in a big object that gets mouse events and paint events from a panel. I also use one global form and reuse this all the time to display a set of forms all defined in the big document. There is no unmanaged code, no multithreading, and it is all pretty basic .NET stuff. When I set the big object to nothing (getting rid of all the references and event hook ups), and dispose of the form (because they normally hold some odd references to things) and run a GC.Collect(), I expected the GC to be able to collect everything. My understanding from hours reading about the GC is that it collects everything that hasnt got a reference from the roots. Why therefore do I lose about 1Mb each time I open and close one of these big documents. I guess thats too hard - lets rephrase. Do I need to 'manually' dispose of everything with a dispose option? Is there something better than ce remote heap walker (whichy doesnt work here probably because it is too big) for debugging? Is dumping a whole set of stuff acceptable practice, seams very neat to me? Could the Form somehow retain a reference to some of the controls that are since moved from it, even after disposal?     - Web service problem I've create a program for Pocket PC that consume a web service. The web service returns a dataset. I use a datagrid to display the dataset. The code can be compiled without any problem. The problem arises when I invoke the web service. At times, the program runs without a hitch and displays the result on the datagrid. But most of the time, the web service doesn't seem to respond to the call. I'm testing the mobile application using Pocket PC emulator and I've also developed a windows application of the program.     - XDA II vs XDA II Mini Hi, I have developed some software that runs perfect under the XDA II model. It was made with VB.NET 2003. When deploying I install the following files:- netcf.core.ppc3.arm.cab OpenNETCF.SDF.ppc3.arm.cab [My Software] Everything works fine on the normal XDA II model.     - Accessing Webservices from Emulator I am using the WinCE Emulator to investigate Webservices under Netcf. Though I can access the Internet (e.g., www.msn.com) from inside the Emulator, so far I have not been able to connect to a Webservice created using Vs2003.     - No .Fill Method in Data Adapter I am developing a Smart Device project for my Symbol MC9000 Windows Mobile handheld. I am trying to make a simple connection to a SQL server. My problem is my Data Adapter object does not have a .FILL method as it always has in normal C# desktop apps. I also noticed I cannot do a dataadapter object.dispose() either (i.e da. Dispose() ). Am I missing something or is this development environment for mobile just that limited? The intellisense only shows the following methods/properties for the da object. .DeleteCommand, .InsertCommand, .RowUpdated, .RowUpdating, .SelectCommand, and .UpdateCommand. That all it lists.     - Screwball emulator issue? The following piece of code ALWAYS executes without exception on the PocketPC device, but often throws a "null reference" exception when running in the emulator (2002 emulator). However, sometimes it executes in the emulator without exception! The exception occurs at the point where I execute the fill on the dataset table, which normally would say that the server connection is closed. So I checked that to make sure it was open and forced it open before trying to fill but I still get the exception on that line -- but only in the emulator.     - Emulator Woes OK, I am using VS2005 Beta 2 and the WM 5.0 emulator (I also have VS 2003 installed). When I try and deploy an application to the emulator I get: Deployment and/or registration failed with error: 0x80070003. The system cannot find the path specified. I have tried reinstalling the DMA Transport Update, The emulator appears to have a valid IP address and I can sucessfully ping that address, I can connect to the device using Tools->Connect to Device and I can even have ActiveSync establish a connection to the emulator by clicking Cradle in the Emulator Manager. I have also tried deleting everything in C:\Documents and Settings\<Current User>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CoreCon. Still I get no deployment. Any ideas.     - CCeDocListDocTemplate on Windows Mobile 5.0 Problems Hello all, I am currently using the CCeDocListDocTemplate class, however, I'm having problems with it on a Dell Axim 51, which uses Windows Mobile 5.0. When the widget is used, it displays the list of files in a mangled format. The format appears to be the first character of the filename followed by the creation date of the file: So for a file named "survey.srv" it would show up as: "s11/12/17". This works fine on the Dell Axim 50, which does not use Mobile 5.0. Are there any known issues with this? Should I be using something else for the Dell Axim 51?     - Peer-to-Peer Socket Problems Hi, I have written an application for Windows CE and Pocket PC devices that communicates with an application on a server through a socket connection. Up til now I have worked with the server application installed on my machine. The handheld was set up to connect to our LAN, and then make a socket connection to machine using my machine's IP address. I have now set up the device with a laptop in a peer-to-peer network. The server application is installed on the laptop and is listening on the socket. Yet I cannot seem to connect to the laptop. When I use DNS.Resolve with the IP address or computer name it gives me a "No such host known" SocketException. When I just use the IPAddress.Parse method, my connection attempt just times out and gives me a message that the remote host did not respond in the adequate amount of time.     - Magneto missing??? I have VS 2003 installed and have just installed VS 2005 beta 2 (pending delivery of the release version next month). I then install the WM 5.0 SDK, everything seems to install OK. When I run VS 2005 I only have project types available of Pocket PC 2003, Smartphone 2003 and CE 5.0.     - GIF animation is not showed Why a .GIF image's animation is not shown in my CF application? If i open the .GIF image in IExplorer or just in a preview mode in Windows, the .GIF's animation occurs. What about when talking about the image being inside a CF application? I've also tried AnimateCtrl from Smart Device Framework v1.4 but the image's animation is not shown. It's another kind of animation, always vertical or horizontal, but not the animation the image displays normally.     - Business Objects and RAM Hi there in my application I load at start up some businessobjects which do some tasks for me like adding an appointment, preparing some SQL statements etc. there 7 Objects take 5 MB in RAM, is this a standard value ? for me it seems like this a little to much. especially when I think of some T-Com Devices with WM 5.0 which have only about 15 - 20 MB RAM left (after des OS things were loaded) What are your experiences ? similar to a custom alarm clock that launches the program at a certain
time of day?

Some other examples would be Pocket Informant's alarm notes, where it
will launch the PI app at a certain alarm time.
