    - Another Beep Api Question (Symbol MC9050 can do) Hi! The Beep API is obviously not supported on mobile devices. Symbol delivers e.g. the MC9050 with CE.Net 4.2 and without sound chip. The MessageBeep API works and produces different beep tones. The PlayWave API produces a default MessageBeep (because of the missing sound chip). Symbol delivers some dlls where I can set the frequency and duration of the beep for good and failed decodes. This is equal to the beep api. Does anyone know if this is a special symbol api call?     - MissingMethodException thrown at form startup I am experiencing difficulties with my .NET CF development. I have tried searching online but I have not found solution. I am developing in VS.NET/VB and have installed .NET Utillities v1.1. My target platform is a Symbol PPT8800 (ARM XScale/64MB) device with CE .NET 4.1 (PocketPC). The problem I am experiencing has also been observed on the Emulator. I suspect issues with VS.NET but unfortunately I am not able to reproduce the error. I have read severel articles on P/Invoke and related. Here goes: I have a project which uses dlls written in eVC3.0. I include declarations to the functions exactly as I did priviously in eVB3.0. I run my application, and it works fine. Dlls are called and functionality is as intended. I write some more code (fx add some controls or write some functions) and then when I run the application I get the Missing Method Exception. When I roll back the problem persists. So I start an entirely new project with one windows form and includes code on the onload event to display a messagebox. If I place the Messagebox.show inside a try catch the Missing Methog Exception occurres. If I ommit the try catch no exception is thrown. I have tried alot of approches to get development back on track like restarting VS.NET, but it only helps some times. I have also tried restarting the XP workstation which didnt help. The device was cold/hard booted with no result. What seems to be working keeping to try to get a Hello World application to run on the device. When a simple application, which includes try/catch, can run on the device or emulator the more complex application using native dlls will work with unchanged code. This is so strange to me and takes up a lot of time each time it occurres. I cannot figure out what triggers the MissingMethodException since my code will run some times and other times it will not.     - OpenNETCF connection manager problem Hi everybody, In my application I use connection manager to dial a connection created via code, calling the guid of a destination also created via code; the steps are the following - Create new Ras entry (e.g. NokiaGPRS) - Create new Destination entry (e.g. GPRS) - Bind the connection with the destination - ConnectionManager.Connect(GPRS.guid) Everything works fine, the connection is established, but if I do an httpwebrequest or I try to open the web browser, I can't browse!! and also the call to the method ConnectionManager.Disconnect(handle of the connection just established) has no effect! If I call DNS resolve instead, everything works fine. I can't connect to the "default internet setting" destination, because I have to be able to choose between di8fferent connecitons, like GPRS or UMTS, and the only way to do this is using OpenNETCF connection managers is to bind them to different destinations. I'm using HP iPaq 5550, pocket pc 2003, connecting to a nokia 6310i GPRS via bluetooth. How can I solve this problem?     - How to code a Scrollable Panel Control ??? To all I've posted a similar post earlier. From the last post, I knew that .NETCF doesn't support scrollable panes to Panel and many other controls (except TextBox, ComboBox) To make the Panel "Scrollable", you'll need to customize it with a VScroll Control (ie. you need to write code to simulate changes in the VScroll control and then move the contents of the Panel Control up or down.... quite complicated, but workable) The problem is that I need lots of such "Controls" in my App, so is it more practical to code that "Control" into some User-Controls (eg. OCX objects, so that it's reusable) If so, any help or guide on this topic ?? The contents of the "Control" should be dynamic (at least I should have the rights to alter its contents.... a complicated matter...) Thanks!     - Use of an Inf file when manually installing. Sometime ado I created my own RAPI application on the PC to install my PPC applcation on the PPC. I use an XML file of my own to tell my installation program how and where to install my files. I use WCELoad from within the install program to install the Compact Framework and/or SQL Server CAB files. My problem is that I need to install the program onto a WM 2003 SE device and hence I require an INF file to get rid of the Legacy Application Installation warning message. That is, I need an INF file with the Buildmax=0xE0000000 line in it. Can anyone tell me what name to give the INF file and where it should be installed to so that the WCELoad program does not give the warning messages when it installs SQL Server etc? John.     - Toolbar buttons and WM 2003SE I have a Windows Mobile 2003 application (Pocket PC) that works fine in WM2003 but in Second Edition, the buttons do not show on the toolbar. This happens with a real device (Dell X30) and in the WWE PPC 2003 SE - SDK Emulator. To try to find where the problem is, I created a VERY simple test application and that shows the same problem. I created a PPC Smart Device application, dropped on a menu and created just a File menu with Exit on it. I dropped on a TooBar and an ImageList. I added two simple 16x16 Bitmap images to the ImageList. Bitmaps were created with VS.Net I set the ImageList for the Toolbar to this ImageList. I add two buttons to the Toolbar and set their Image Indexes to 0 and 1. The two buttons show up correctly next to the menu at design time. When I run the program in the emulator, neither button appears on the toolbar. I see a grey area next to the menu and if I click in the grey area where the buttons should be, I see a while square where the buttons should be. The menu is easy to create - but the functions - seem very difficult to pull off in the CompactFramework. Correct me in I'm wrong - but it would be a lot easier - if I could call the activecontrol - but from what I've read that is not available. So I've come up with the following crude code. It works - but the question is - how can I make it simpler. So I do not have to hardcode all of the textboxes - one by one? In other words, how can I count up all the textboxes on the form - and then iterate through all of them - until it is done with the last one? Or how could I call a control (like a textbox) - but with a variable name. Like call Textbox(var).text - so I could loop through them all?     - Writing an auto-update applet I am trying to design an auto-update applet for my Pocket PC application and I have hit two distinct problems that I would love some help with: First off, I _thought_ that when the CLR was trying to resolve a reference to an assembly, it only looked at the major.minor of the assembly's version number. All my assmblies use 1.0.* as the version info. When I recompile just one of the assemblies and copy it onto my device, I get a TypeLoadException because the application is still trying to bind to the old version of the assembly. For example: Old SqlCE_DAL.DLL: 1.0.1630.0 New SqlCE_DAL.DLL: 1.0.1632.0 When I run the application it craps out indicating that it failed to load the old 1.0.1630 version. I would have expected the runtime to pick up the newer 1.0.1632 version because the major and minor are still the same. Secondly, how can I determine the correct processor type to download to the PocketPC? I want to be able to download processor specific DLLs, such as the SqlCe hotfix which comes in different processor flavours. In the OpenNETCF.Win32.Core.GetSystemInfo() I can retrieve a bunch of information about the processor type, but I notice that there is no combination of properties that I can piece together into 'ARM4'.     - Access localized strings from within a module ... I am stumped, even after reading all applicable posts in this newsgroup. I understand how to 'localize' the text in the various form objects (ie. buttons, menus, etc..). You simply set 'localizable' on the form to true, and then choose the language. I've been successful in using resources.getstring to obtain localized text that I have added to my form's resource file. When the program is run, the correct text is retrieved based on the devices regional language setting. My question is this: In my various modules and classes I also need to localize certain text (ie. Messageboxes, variables, etc..). Into what resource file do I put this localized text so that the correct text is retrieved based on regional settings as well? I hope I've made sense. I only want users of Pocket PC (Phone Edition) to be able to install the app. Which cabs should I choose (PPC or WCE4) and for which processors (All / ARM / ARM4v .....) 4) I tried creating an MSI (using the method described in MSDN) it compiled fine but when I try to install it, it says the Application Manager could not install the application on your device due to an invalid installation file. 5) When I installed the MSI, it installed fine (on the desktop) except it didnt create a Setup file on the application directory of the desktop. What if the user wants to repair / reinstall the software. 6) When creating the custominstaller.... is there anyway I can prompt the user to assign hardware buttons to my application, in the after_installation function ?     - Debugging Device Control Hello. I've created a custom device control for use in compact framework applications. If I understand everything correctly, I need to create a design time version and a run time version. I'm fine w/ all of that. I have a version that loads into the toolbox and a version that gets copied over to the emulator and displays as it should. Problem is, I can't seem to get into the dll for debugging. I set breakponts and I get the message on the breakpoint that states that the "No symbols have loaded". I have my sample CF app and my custom control in the same solution. You would think it would step into the code for the dll just as it does in a regular Windows Forms application. Apparently, the .pdb file needs to be put in a specific location and/or I need to set a reference to the debug/runtime version of the dll. Does anyone have any ideas as to which dll I need to set a reference to and/or which directory I should put my .pdb file?     - Shared SQLCECommand Object Hi All This is in relation to my post on multiple DataAdapters, and is cross-posted as both groups have relevence. I have one class of shared functions, subs and variables (variables are private). The idea is so that I have one class available to my whole application without the need for multiple instances. All database calls ensure connection object is closed in the Finally segment of my Try-Catches. For those that have not read my other post I have been experiencing a SQLCE data file sharing violation when updating tables (update on one table works, update on next table doesn't). What I was wondering if anyone could expand upon is: If Class1 makes a call to SharedDataClass and uses 'AddOrderHeader' (which then closes the database connection) and then Class2 makes a call to SharedDataClass and uses 'AddOrderDetail' is there any chance that the connection object is running in 2 threads (my code does not programaticly use threading)? I ask this as my Main form uses the DataAccessClass for retrieval and this works. My order header class uses the DataAccessClass for insert and select and this works. My OrderDetailClass uses the DataAccessClass and consistently fails to insert/update (file share violation occurs on ConnectionObject.Open, but no error occurs if I attempt to close it {connection state is 'closed in command window}). I used to use adapters, but believing they were the root of my issues I've taken them out, but the problem remains. As I've been working with databases in the past, I'm pretty sure my code is good - especially as Brad Syputa[MS] didn't say there was anything obviously wrong with it (see other post). This 'SHARED' angle is the only one I have left. Would appricate any help as with out full DB operation I'm in the myre... Many thanks.     - Anyone know of this issue ??? Hi, I've been developing on an Ipaq 3870 with Pocket Pc 2002 Premium OS... Now I also bought an Toshiba E750 and a Fujitsu Siemens Loox 610. Both have Pocket PC 2003 installed... The Ipaq tells me the following : Microsoft Pocket PC Version 3.0.11171 (build 11178) The Toshiba : Microsoft Pocket PC Version 4.20.1081(build 13100) For developing software I've been using the Visual Studio .Net 2003. My problem is that while debugging an application while connected to the pc I get the following message : the remote connection to the device has been lost. Please verify the device connection and restart debugging. This only happens when I have one of the two Pocket PC 2003 devices connected. The Ipaq works fine. It goes unsaid that while debugging the devices are still physicall connected, so checking the connection is unnecessary.     - Make messageBox dissapear straight after Yes/No Kinda difficult to explain the problem. Basically I'm using the signatureCapture from HoodCanalSystems. It captures the signature by capturing the part of the screen where the signature control is located. This means that when I have a MessageBox on top of that signatureControl, the MessageBox will be captured as well. You're in with me so far? Good:) so, this is my problem : I ask for confirmation from the user with a MessageBox Yes/No if no email address was entered. If the user clicks Yes then it should save the signature. It does it fine, the only problem is that the MessageBox does not dissapear straight away. I.e. it's still on the screen when the signature is being saved (i checked it out in debug mode). Is there any way to refresh the screen or make that MessageBox go away as soon as the user clicked either Yes or No. I.e. Current Findings: Although not officially accepted (to my knowledge), it seems that there is a bug in the current CF implementation (including SP 2) that requires the assignment of the NetworkCredentials for the local WebProxy to the actual HttpWebRequest.Credentials property. (I can only suspect that this is due to the fact that CredentialCache is not supported) This technique seems to be working fine as long as the actual requested Internet resource does not require authentication and that the local WebProxy will accept BASIC authentication. By examining the AuthenticationManager.RegisteredModules enumeration, it lists both the BASIC and DIGEST authentication modules but I still cant get the DIGEST to work. Furthermore, what if INTEGRATED authentication is required? I am currently contemplating about implementing a custom authentication module to provide INTEGRATED authentication. Is this possible? and if true, where can I find more information about the necessary encoding scheme? I would greatly appreciate any comments, especially from people with close ties to Microsoft that could verify the accuracy or inaccuracy of my findings.
