 - Large image Hi, I have a map in the format of 3000 * 3000 pixel bmp-file. This is of course to big to load into a bitmap. Does anyone have any ideas how to handle this image to be able to pan the map in the PDA. Do I have to cut the image into smaller pieces or is it somehow possible to read small parts of the image depending on which part of the map to be shown while panning? /Broeden .  - Picture Box oddities I have an app with 4 picture box controls on it and I need to load images into the picture boxes. I have the picture boxes set to 216,162 in size and the property set to "Stretch Image". While loading image sizes of 800x600 there is not a problem but when I try to load an image size that is 166x1200 everything blows up and tells me it is throwing an out of memory error. How can this be when the 800x600 image is only a few "k" smaller in size than the 1600x1200 image? Thanks in advance, -- Noble D.  - Memory management problem on compact framework 2.0SP1 Hello everybody, I've a memory management problem. We wrote a c# application that uses an sql ce database with a lot of datasets and uses MS merge replication. The problem is that during the use of the application the memory in use wil grow and will never become lower, until the application crashes saying 'out of mémory'. Ive tried the Compact framework RPM but I don't find anything. I'tried "using" keewords, manual disposing of my datasets and GC.collect() method. Nothing will help me. I've seen on the web that there is a bug in memory management when using user control. I've tried to dispose them ma manually, but nothing seems to work Does anybody have an idea ?  - Zebra Mobile .NET SDK v1.5 I've been playing with what is billed as the Zebra Mobile .NET SDK v1.5 in conjunction with a Demo app which prints out CPCL thermal labels from the MC70 Motorola/Symbol device. Sending the print via BT COM9 to BTExplorer Lite. Welp it has a great Zebra printing engine that prints like in 4 seconds as opposed to just sending out CPCL text via virtual serial which takes 10-11 seconds. This looked really promising and I got this from a Symbol Zebra contact......welp as I'm running into problems printing to my QL220, I contacted Zebra.....at first they were very helpful then they got kinda "where'd you get that SDK!" and I told them....then they stonewalled me saying there wasn't an SDK.  - Need help with report writing Hello I am using VB.Net 2005 CF and SQL Compact 2005 on my desktop. I have sdf databases and I need to generate reports from them. I spent all weekend trying to find software, tutorials, anything that would help me generate paper reports from this type of database. I can not find anything. I would appreciate links to tutorials and good 3rd party tools because everything I find is out of date or simply does not apply. If anyone has an example to post that would be nice too. None of my data is bound to any form. They are all created programatically and I am constantly opening and closing different ones from within the same application. You help is appreciated.  - useUnsafeHeaderParsing OK, I give up. 4 hours of searching the web and I can't find any info on this. I have a C# app that issues an HttpWebRequest against a server that does not follow the standard regarding CRLF in it's headers. It's not my server. I have no control over it. So I need to add "useUnsafeHeaderParsing" to the app.config file - which fixes my problem fine on the desktop environment. The problem is, I also have a mobile version of my app. And the compact framework environment does not allow me to add an app.config file to this project. Some of my research yielded a way to programatically set this value using System.Net.Configuration.HttpWebRequestElement.UseUnsafeHeaderParsing. But it appears that compact framework does not support the System.Net.Configuration namespace. Can anybody tell me the correct way to enable unsafe header parsing from a Windows Mobile C# app using compact framework?  - Active sync oddity A while ago we wrote some routines to push/pull data updates to our mobile app over gprs. The mobile device connects to a server and maintains it's connection with periodic 'pings'. Works fine. The server app listens for incoming tcp connections on a particular port and with the aid of the 'pings' maintains this connection over the gprs network. Today whilst evaluating a device we've not used before, a Symbol MC35, I noticed that when we connect it via active sync it drops it's gprs connection and appears to try to continue the background 'pinging' process over the active sync connection. This behaviour has not been noticed with other devices in the past. If this worked then that would be fine, but, it seems like a/s is somehow tricking the application into thinking that it has connected to the server when in actual fact it has not, even if the server app is not running. The mobile app code is all asynchronus and begins with a call like this... asyncConnect = clientSocket.BeginConnect(m_remoteEndpoint, new AsyncCallback(connectCallback), clientSocket); Immediately the connectCallback is invoked and it appears as tho the connection has been established, until the code fails a bit further due to there not being a true connection. The callback performs a... clientSocket.EndConnect(asyncConnect); ...which under true gprs conditions would have generated an exception that I would trap and interpret as basically no connection, but this does not happen when connected under a/s.  - Is it possible to force the device connected to one Wifi access point only? I am developing a wifi linked application which is a simple client/server application. I installed a private network with a wifi access point and connected it to the device (a simple 192.0.x.x network). There are some wifi access points in the environment too (Upper floor, next buidling, bah bah bah, wifi anywhere nowadays) I found that the device will switching its "connected" wifi access point sometime and that is not what I wanted ! Is it possible to disable that kind of "jumping" and connected to one dedicated access point only ? I have try to use the ConnectionManager class from the OpenNET CF. But it cannot get the list of the wifi access points, or is there anyway to make it ? I am using a dopod PDA phone as the testing device. Any help is welcome. I used to be able to set breakpoints in my code and step into the application while under the VS2008 debugger without issue.  - component autoresize on a vga mobile 5 Hello, I'm porting a htc tytn application on a htc x7500 (mobile 5). The difference that makes the application to run badly is the screen. The x7500 has a vga screen and it seems that it tries to resize automatically all the components and all the images. The image in a picturebox is resized if loaded changing the image property compile time, and it's not resized if I load it runtime from a file. Does anybody know why? The code I use to load an image is: Bitmap b = new Bitmap(imagefile); ; Image imm = Image.FromHbitmap(b.GetHbitmap()); And how could I avoid the automatical resize of the panels and the textBox? Is it related to the font size? I would need to manage explicitly this resize or, better, to avoid it at all, at least for my application.  - Application interaction with another application/service/Background I have a project which is a device application (Windows Mobile 6 - Smartphone). In this application i will download some xml(catalog) files from the sever and update the ui and database once in 24hrs. This download,updation of ui and updation of database(sql server ce) takes nearly 3 to 4 mins. To avoid this i want to create service/thread or something else which will be running in the background and do this download process and update the database without poping up the ui. So that when user opens my application he has to just update the ui reading from database.  - Splashscreen problem (partly...) This is quite a strange one... My device is WM6 and I am developing on CF 1. I have written a splashscreen on a new form and call it from form1 like so... public Form1() { this.MinimizeBox = false; splash form = new splash(); form.ShowDialog(); InitializeComponent(); } This sort of works perfect for me on my device (though I actually do get a gap between the splash screen and the program where I can see what was on screen before, though I am not too concerned). I have deployed the app to a WM5 device. I run the app and my splashscreen appears, disappears (as it should) but then the app just doesn't appear, however, if I click the icon again, the app actually starts without the splash screen, which suggests that the app is actually running from first click, just not visible. Any ideas?  - foreach-loop bug in CF2.0? Hi all, I get InvalidOperationException while using foreach-loop. It is not a rule, it just happens in some parts of code, in some - not. As soon as I replace the foreach-loop by for-loop no Exception is thrown... What can it be I wonder? I'm really confused at this point - HAd been working happily in VS2008 = with CF3.5 and had to go back to my VS2005 project but now debug doesn't = work. If I just deploy and copy over the CF2.0 RTM and install manually = then start the app on the device it runs great.=20 How do I tell VS2005 to use a specific version of CF2 during = construction and debug mode run to device from IDE???? I have written a .NET CF V2.0 application that supports several languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc.) and I noticed that there are several language versions of System_SR_XX.CAB files, to support detailed error messages in the specified language, but I was curious to know if there are different language versions of the NETCFv2.wce5.armv4i.cab? Or are all displayed "text messages" generated by the System_SR_XX.CAB files?  - Stupid ComboBox event problem Hi, I cannot figure out why no ComboBox events are firing in my project. I'm very new to .NET CF programming, so I might be missing something obvious. The event handler for "SelectedIndexChanged" gets fired when I first set the DataSource of the ComboBox, but when I click on the ComboBox in the emulator, no event handlers get called. Out of desparation, I've added handlers to SelectedIndexChanged, KeyPress, KeyDown, LostFocus, and MouseDown, but none of the handler fire.  - Unicode (Hindi Language) support in WM6 Hi, I'm trying to develop a application for Windows Mobile 6 which is unicode based. I'm using unicode for display HINDI language on pocket pc. Is WM6 supports unicode or not? Because when I try to deploy application with a label that contains both hindi and english char. I'm getting only english char and hindi chars are replced by boxex or question marks.  - Native Error after Symbol SMDK 1.6 Had an application to worked just fine debug run mode with the SMDK 1.5 from Symbol. Welp the SMDK 1.6 required removal of the 1.5 and previous SMDKs. After installing the latest greatest form Symbol I can no longer run my application in debug mode. It gets to the splash screen and before it can get to the main screen a error occurs: "A native exception has occurred in EasyIDMobile.exe.  - Visually inheriting from abstract/generic UserControls in CF Hello, I'm using Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 and .NET Compact Framework 2.0. I have a UserControl component for editing rules. Right now I'm using a class which inherits from UserControl and uses a generic type to hold the type of rule that is being edited. Then derived types specify the generic type to say what type of rule they can edit. I like this design because it lets me put some common code in the parent class, and if I try to pass the wrong sort of rule to a UI component I find out at compile-time. Roughly it looks like this: public abstract class Rule { ... } public abstract class GenericRuleControl<T> : UserControl where T : Rule { public abstract void SetRule(T rule); public abstract T GetRule(); // Common code for all inherited types } public class TimeRule : Rule { ... } public class TimeRuleControl : GenericRuleControl<TimeRule> { // ... } I coded this all up and it worked great. Unfortunately the first time I closed and re-opened the project in Visual Studio it stopped working. I found out this is because abstract or generic base classes aren't supported in the designer. I managed to find some instructions for making it work, here: http://www.urbanpotato.net/default.aspx/document/2001 That code works fine in a desktop project, but in a Compact Framework project I get these errors: Error 2 - The type or namespace name 'TypeDescriptionProvider' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Error 5 - The type or namespace name 'TypeDescriptionProviderAttribute' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) And indeed, the documentation for TypeDescriptionProvider says that it is not supported on the Compact Framework.  - Multiple PictureBoxes in User Control Problem I've created a user control that contains multiple PictureBox controls. I only want to display text within these controls so I've overriden Paint and do a DrawString. All PictureBoxes on the user control point to the same Paint function. The problem is that only the first control displayed actually displays anything despite Paint being called for each control. The rest of the controls are all blank. No errors are thrown so I have no idea whats happening.  - Deploying cab files Hi, I have developed an app in CF 1 and created cab files. There are 6 cab files, obviously for different devices. How should I deploy these? Do I just copy the relevant cab file to the device then run it or do I need to create some kind of installer. Apart from looking at my device, how would the general user know which cab file to install? Do I install actually on the device or do I run the installer on the PC and it installs to the device? If I can do it from the PC, is there anyway to automate it? (i.e. my app is a cut down version of a desktop version, I would prefer that somehow, the desktop version would manage the PDA version.) Hi, I am developing an application that requires storing of data, i first started out with using XML and DataSet as my dbase but i figured out i need to run several quiries and return certain data set, which can't be done using XML and that the data might get big by time and loading the whole file in memory will cz problems especially performace. So i decided to try out SQL compact. Here's my problem, if i am using SQL 3.5 to develop my app does my users have to deploy it on their devices, or can i just add the DLL files to my project (or cab file) and would work?  - wceload exit codes Hi, Does anyone know of a reference for wceload exit codes? I've searched for it and saw other people searching for it, but it hasn't been found yet :). Or, if anyone knows what exit code 00004005 means, that would also be great. I'm trying to install some cab files using Pocket PC Installer on a Korean WM6 device and this is the result: Running: \Windows\wceload.exe "\Temp\PPCInstaller\System_SR_ENU_wm.cab" /delete 0 ok, exit code: 00004005. Running: \Windows\wceload.exe "\Temp\PPCInstaller\Setup.CAB" /delete 0 ok, exit code: 00004005. So it happens for a standard Microsoft cab file and for my own setup.cab file. The strange thing is that when I manually install the cab files, so not using the Pocket PC Installer tool, it works fine.  - Embed form into another using SetParent Hi! I'm trying to make one form the child of another using SetParent. I tried CF1.1 on CE4.2 and CF2.0 on CE6.0 but without success. What do I have to do to make a form a child window? On XP I can take two visible forms and call SetParent. I think this is not possible on CE. What are the limitations?  - Imaging and DPI I'm working on a project where I need to be able to adjust the DPI of either a Bitmap, Image, or Graphics object. So far I can't find anything that will get it off of the standard 96 DPI. Surely there's a way to modify one of these objects to different DPIs (something like the full framework's Bitmap.SetResolution() method). Am I just missing it? get the config file.
based on config file the xml file should be copied to or read from
the specified path in PDA.
