 - Trapping error Hi, Im writing an SQL piece of code that throws an exception if the value im passing in the SQL Query doesnt exist (ie when serching the database table the value doesnt exist in database table). What I want to do is get a 0 returned to indicate to me that it does not exist in database table without the exception being thrown. Any ideas how to do that?  - Modem (GPRS) connection reset/close I have developed this nice application for synchronizing data from filed back to the central server. It can use different means of transport including GPRS. So far all our clients used QTEK (build in GSM/GPRS) for GPRS and it works fine. Now one client would like to use Siemens GPRS terminal that connects to PocketPC trough serial port. App works fine until terminal looses connection. PocketPC does not realize that connection is lost and I don't have any means from to reset connection and force PocketPC to dial again. I know that there is possibility to use connection manager API but that would require fer amount of rework. Is there any way to reset/close connection from within code so PocketPc can dial again.  - Tab Key Hello all, We have an application that is written in C# in order to run on Pocket PC 2.0 Our problem is that all controls ignore the "Tab" key of the keyboard in their Key_Down - Key_Press etc events handlers. It seems that the .NET Form is not aware that the Tab Key is pressed. This is a big limitation because our customers use a professional Symbol device with a small keyboard on it (it also has a barcode scanner) and the Tab key is ignored. We do not have a lot a experience in Win API to try to handle the pressing of the Tab Key, so any link or sample code would be extremely usesful. Thank you in advance.  - What UI control should I use for this scenario? Hi, I am trying to display the following data on a form. The data can be thought of as having several rows each with 2 columns. The first column is just static text. The 2nd column is a enumeration type (with fixed enumerations). The user should be able to click a combo box and pick an enumeration. What is the best way to display this kind of data in a form? I have tried the following: 1. Tried a Panel control. and inside the panel I represented the 1st column as a text box / label and the 2nd column as a combo box. The problem here is that there is no vertical scrolling capability in NET CF. So only the first say 10 rows are displayed. 2. Tried a datagrid.  - HttpWebRequest object POST operation via HTTPS (SSL) fails We are trying to hit an IBM web server (Apache-based I believe) via HttpWebRequest POST method over SSL. The data that is being sent is an XML package.  - Q: CF Requirements (5 Simple Questions) We are trying to decide whether to use .Net CF for a PPC 2003 implementation. If someone could assist me with the following questions, I would greatly appreciate it as I'm having some trouble pinpointing exact answers. 1. To develop in .Net CF, is it required we use Visual Studio .Net 2003? We currently have last years Studio .Net Architect (Version 7.0.9). Will we not be able to use this? 2. Is the .Net CF included on the device ROM already for PPC2003 devices, meaning they will run .Net apps without a runtime installation? 3. I read from MS that the .Net CF will also work on PPC2002 devices. It is a requirement that we support both 2002 and 2003 devices.  - Pre-loading forms I would like display a splash screen while I pre-load a number of forms in a PPC app. I currently attempt to pre- load the forms under the Splash form's Load event. The problem with this is that it preloads the forms before it shows/loads the Spalsh screeen, thus defeating the purpose. Is there a different event that I should be running the pre-load under?  - How to run app after installing from cab? Hi, Any ideas or tips on how I can get my application to automatically run after installing it from it's cab file? In this particular scenario the app is automatically downloading an update of itself, the cab file will have been automatically downloaded to the device into the cabfiles folder on the storage card and then either warm-rebooted by code or the 'autocab' exe run, again by code, not sure which method I will use yet.  - "Cannot establish a connection ..." Hi, all. Please, please help! I'm working with VS.Net 2003 and (PDT 8100) PocketPC from Symbol. For several weeks I've successfully been developing and debugging a sample application using the compact framework. The device was connected with my computer through the serial port. Yesterday, I've tried the TCP connection using the network cradle - and the problems started to appear. First, the "Cannot establish a connection. Make sure your ..." appeared. I've downloaded "WinCE utilities" from MS site, run the "DelDesktopCryptKey" and have updated the registry using "ProxyPorts.reg" (in the process I've upgraded my ActiveSync to the latest 3.7.1) The problem with the connection was fixed. BUT, the application "refused" to copy to the device: when I hit F5 (debug) the debugging process starts, finishes and nothing happens - no error - the application was simply NOT copied to the device. Then, I decided to switch back to the serial connection ... and again the "Cannot establish a connection ..." error. I'm stuck. I've reinstalled VS, merged the ProxyPorts.reg once more, have tried everything I can think of .... but nothing; VS simply wont connect to the device! ps. If the application is already running and you launch it again, a second copy is not launched. Instead the first copy of application is brought to foreground.  - 3 Webservice Calls All, I have an app written in VB.NET for CF which is running on Smartphone 2003. I have function which uses webservices to upload user details to the server. All this works fine for the first two calls but on the 3rd things start to slow down starts to rak 20 seconds compared to 5. I am using the emulator test all this so I am unclear as to whether the Emulator simulates low memory conditions which is what i think the problem is! Has anyone got any pointers on this problem?  - Slow response button selection I have a main form that has several buttons that will go to one of several other forms when button is selected (I have button as well as selection in MainMenu control). It seems there is a 4-5 second delay between when I select a button and the code that executes the form.show() command after the button button_click event (timed in debug mode with breakpoint).  - Slowness of XmlDocument Class I'm working with the compact framework and trying to write a program that will roll through a xml document and display the information in a listbox, but after I open a file with a OpenFileDialog it takes up to 15 seconds to load the file into the XmlDocument. Any Ideas on how to speed the code up. My xml file is around 200k.  - Override Windows Message from Voice Recorder I'm calling the voice recorder using SendMessage instead of having the user use the actual voice control. I can get it to record no problem. However, if the user touches anywhere on the screen and any control gets focus, it stops the recorder. Now, I'm trying to trap the message from the MessageWindow, but by the time it hits my WndProc override, it's already stopped recording. Also it looks like the message in my MessageWindow is GotFocus on the form for instance. I've been working on this and scoured the internet and every resource I have.  - SQLCE Insert Bug Found? Maybe this is already a know issue. I insert a lot of data into a SQLCE database from a remote SQL database using a prepared insert statement, basically imitating an RDA Pull. It seems to work well, but when I look at the SQLCE database, the first row of the table has no values for any string datatype. In other words, all the rows come back fine, except for the first row returned, where then any string value is empty. Numeric data types are fine. I've checked all the tables I use this method on and this error happens everywhere, any string value has an empty value in its first row, all subsequent rows are fine. I've stepped through the insert statement, and it seems that the data is being passed OK. Below is the code, please let me know if this is some kind of error, or if its just me. It installs the server and developer components on your development computer. A package designed to work with managed code applications will be released together with the availability of the .NET Compact Framework. I installed .NET Compact Framework SP1 redistributable but it does not have System.Data.Common.dll or SqlServerCe .NET Data Provider. The only way to get these binaries right now is from Visual Studio .NET 2003. Is there going to be SP2 redistributable that includes the SqlServerCe .NET provider as part of the .NET Compact Framework redistributable? I've installed VS.NET 2003 on my laptop computer to develop Pocket PC applications using .NET Compact Framework, but when I lauch the application on emulator, nothing appens; only the exe file is copied to emulator but the application does not appear (it is not lauched).  - A few questions from a newbie I have a few quick questions, all help is greatly appreciated. 1) When I grab a datetime field from my SQL7.0 server and import into my SQLCE it changes the time based on the timezone. While this is very cool, I don't always want it, how can I turn it off?? 2) I want to hide columns in a datagrid. I need to know which (monospaced) fonts are installed on a Pocket PC.

System.Drawing.FontFamily.Families is not implemented in the CF :-(

Is there any other way to get such a list? Perhaps via API?

By default Pocket PC only includes the Courier New monospaced font. You can
however add further true type fonts to the unit by copying them to the
\Windows\Fonts folder. Along with this the device includes Tahoma and if
Reader is installed will have Frutiger Linotype and Bookdings too.
