    - Hi there I have a pocketpc device and I've intalled a hebrew keyboard into it.. But they did a mess with the location of the fonts (I have a numeric input keyboard for my handle so I am using it like a cellphone SMS keyboard) Now in my program I mapped the locations of the bad placed chars and the new and good ones, my problem is that if i use KeyUp/KeyPessed for clickeing on "3" 2 times or so... It doesn't work like a sms keyboard, (For example: clicking 2 times on 2 will result in "ab" and not just b.. any help would be appreciated.     - Hardware keypress preceded by Windows key press Is this simply my device... i have noticed that hardware key presses are often preceded by a windows (vk 91) key press. Anyone else notice this? this makes it a bit diffficult to handle these hardware keys, as i am not sure how to handle these key presses without making the start menu pop up (which happens when a WM_KEYDOWN is sent with vk code 91). This is because if i press a hardware key such as the calendar key, 91 is sent first, then 195. i can cancel the 195 if needed, but by that time 91 has been processed. i need a way to disable them both it seems...     - Running .NET CF 2.0 applications on CE 4.2 Hi there, waiting for a long time to be able to run CF 2.0 applications on windows ce 4.2 devices, i was happy to see sp1 of cf 2.0 was released a month ago. After initial troubles installing it (need to change the default install path from \windows\ to \program files\) the installation went through successfully. Now, when i deploy a .net cf 2.0 device application to the device the application wont run throwing an error of .net version mismatch. It seems like my vs 2005 doesnt deploy the proper version information to run on sp1 patched devices. Anyone ran into this and is able to give a hint? After making several hundred queries against a SQL CE 2.0 database (through NetCF/ADO.NET), I begin getting a SqlCeException: "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation." Microsoft speaks to this situation in the following hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=827837 When I contacted them to receive the hotfixed ssce20.dll, they described the problem as SqlCeDataReader and SqlCeDataAdapter not releasing their memory resources after they went out of scope. In addition to using the hotfixed binary, they also advised me to call SqlCeEngine.Dispose() after every query to force SQL CE to release resources, as shown in the "finally" block of the code below. I have a couple of questions about this: (1) Will this cause a lot of performance overhead for me, especially if my application makes frequent queries using the following code? (2) Can a cache an instance of SqlCeEngine and call Dispose() on that cached instance repeatedly, so I can avoid having to instantiate a new SqlCeEngine each time?     - fonction execution time from 0 to 1s!!! Hi all! I experiment a very strange behaviour with one of my CF2 function. In my program a function is called 256 times in a "for" loop. This function fills some arrays and compute binary paths. I noticed that the whole loop was very slow, so I checked the execution time of each function call. The result is wierd : sometimes the function takes a few milliseconds to complete, and sometimes it takes up to 1 second! I first reduced the whole execution time by reducing the amount of memory taken. This way I gained almost 30s! But the whole loop (256 function calls) is still taking 10+ seconds to complete... (the same eVC4/c++ computing on a WM2003 PDA takes 4 seconds to complete) I noticed that with the first version of the program, with no optimization of the memory, the number of loops that took 1 second was around 40 times. When I reduced the memory taken by the program, the number of 1 second loops was around 10. So it seems obvious that the time taken by each call depends on the available memory. Is there something with the garbage collector or anything else that could slow down my function ? Anyone got an idea about it ? Thank you for your help! JL PS : the program takes up to 6.5 MB, the 256 function calls increase the taken memory from about 3.5 MB to 6 MB. PPS : the indexes of the calls that take 1 second to complete aren't always the same, but the more the function have already been called, the more a 1 second loop occurs...     - xml web service proxy and serializable assembly generation The POS application we are developing is designed to call two web services. The first web service has only one method and it returns a string with an Uri where the second web service is located. The second web service has several methods and objects. One of the methods is used to download the data for the particular POS location (terminal). This data is parsed and a SqlCe database is created on the device. The data downloaded is not that large, worst case scenario it is 400KB. After profiling the PC version of the application is shows that it is allocating a total of 50MB of process global heap memory and the working set of the application is about 4 to 5 MB. The same behavior happens on the Pocket PC version of the application. The problem I am having is that on the Pocket PC there is not enough memory. An OutOfMemoryExeption is thrown. The Pocket PC has about 32MB of Program memory and about 7 MB of storage memory. I have taken the following steps towards finding a solution to this problem. I have minimized and optimized the usage of memory. I monitor System memory and when it reaches a threshold I call GC.Collect. I handle the WM_Hibernate message and call GC.Collect and dispose some unmanaged resources. After profiling the application some more I found out that if the application goes to the background the OS reclaims unused memory by the process. So after this discovery I added code to minimize the application when the memory starts to get low. This helped a little but still run out of memory. I have also attempted to control the distribution of storage and program memory. I proceeded to profile the application again and realized that the creation and invocation of a web service call creates about allocates about 11MB to 16MB of memory. I profiled the application of the PC and the same occurs. It turns out that the .Net FX reflects all types in a web service proxy and generates a serializable assembly for each proxy. To do this it loads Jscript runtime dll and the Vsa runtime dll. After the above observation I tried to pre-generate the serializable assemblies using a tool called sgen.exe and profile the application again but it seems that it does not load the serializable assemblies at all it generates them. Everything I have read about this approach should work but apparently I must be missing something. After analyzing these findings I think that if I avoid the 16MB hit of the serializable assemblies generation the application will load since the initial working set of the application is 4 to 5 MB.     - Windows Mobile 5.0, .NETCFv2.0, and many sockets I am looking for a good way to handle numerous sockets (1 UDP and as many as 20+ TCP child sockets) in WM 5.0 using C# and the .NETCFv2. Currently, I'm using async class and it works fine for small numbers of sockets; 1 UDP and up to 15 or so TCP child sockets. When I get to more than 15 (or so) I have an issue with other threads, using the threadpool, not running. Specifically, I have a managing thread (using the System.Threading.Timer stuff) that ceases to be called once the number of async calls gets rather high. Do the async socket calls block the threadpool threads? If so, is there a way to get around this, or the is the best idea just not to use async socket calls in this situation? I can't find any good documentation on how things are handled within the OS (a pointer to such documentation would be _greatly_ appreciated, too). I was at MEDC in Vegas last week, but failed to catch one of the VM Core developers to bug them about this. >From looking at other posts, it seems that Socket.Select() is a much better method for handling a large number of sockets. When using select() is there a way to add another event that I can raise to get select() to come back or will it only respond to socket events? For example, I want to add another socket to the read array. I know in the old-school select() you could use generic events in the select array.     - Input Panel button under Windows Mobile 5 Ok, I didn't get any response to my previous question about problems enabling the SIP button under WM5, so I'll ask what other design strategies I can take... Does everyone use munu bars on every screen, so its a non-issue hiding and showing the SIP button? I have no menus in my application except on the main screen, and I really need to maximize the screen real estate, so having an entire menu bar show for just the SIP button is a complete waste. The application uses dynamic forms, so a form may consist entirely of checkboxes and dropdowns so no SIP is needed, or it may have text boxes on it which would need the SIP. There is a Save and Cancel button and a checkbox at the bottom of the screen. Should I make the Save and Cancel buttons part of the menu bar. I notice most of the WM5 apps now have an action button on the left of the menu bar and a "menu" option to the right. Is this the preferred style now. Any suggestions?     - Emulator & Webservices in VS 2k5 ASP.Net Development Server -- debugging On my development PC, I have VS.Net 2005 open, with a webservice being debugged in ASP.Net Development Server. I'd like to get the emulator to connect to this webservice and be able to debug both sides of the transaction at the same time. I've tried all sorts of combinations of networking with the emulator without success. One problem seems to stem from the fact that the ASP.Net Development Server will only answer connections that come from localhost. It cannot be addressed by fully qualified name or by IP address. i am writing a pocket pc project. just this morning i opened up my project
and I got the following error..

error retrieving information from user datastore.

and then

the project could not be opened because it refers to a device platform that
does not exist in your datastore.

I haver been unsuccessful at fixing this problem.

Could someone shed some light please.

i have tried to delete the contents of the Corecon directory in both the
user store and the all user store as outlined

i have also tried re-installing the program

and re-installing the windows mobile 5.0 sdk and the ppc 2003 sdk still with
no luck..

At the moment I am considering formatting my computer! I really dont want to
do that
