    - Simple, cheap, big Hi, I'd like to run a C# app (written for the CF) on a device having the following characteristics and was hoping someone could recommend a device. All attributes mentioned below are approximate and can vary a little: -8x6" -800x1024 pixels (color and portrait mode required) -WM5, WM6, XP, or Vista (or some other variant) - very flexible here -CF 1, 2, .... - very flexible here -WiFi not required -SD card slot or HD required -preferably solid state RAM -1GB RAM would be nice, but I guess with XP 512MB would be fine - on a WM device only 64MB would be fine. -slot for adding external HSDPA card or device has built-in HSDPA (required) -physical keyboard not required Basically what I'd like to find is something kinda like the UMPC, but with the 'light-weight' of WM5 or WM6; i.e. instant turn-on/off, etc etc etc. Any 'Pocket PCs' out there with such a large screen?     - Dialog and Databindings I've read a lot of this in newsgroups, but didn't find an answer. And on my app it still doesn't work as I want. Just what am I doing. I have a form (dialog, MinimizeBox is set to false). On that form are some TextBoxes which Text property is bound to an objects properties. The form has the "OK" on the page header and a Button on it which shall act as "Cancel" First I thought that the Form.DialogResult influences whether the bound controls expose there values to the properties or not. This doesn't seem so. How can I determine if the object properties are updated or not when using databinding? Second, changing a value in a TextBox, leaving the focus in that TextBox and clicking the "OK" does not update the bound property. What have I to do to handle the focus propbelm properly?     - How to remove named event from system notifications? Hi, My application gets custom event notification and is working as expected sending the custom event as app name (\\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\MyTestEvent) using the API CeSetUserNotificationEx. But now I need to have functionality to cancel these events. Meaning I want to remove the event entry from the system notifications. Whenever I build the application, It gives the following error message. Deployment and/or registration failed with error: 0x8973190e.     - textbox, compact framework, slideout button text entry problem I have a WM6 HTC device that refuses to type in letters when I use the slide out physical button keyboard. The symptom is as if the "fn" button is frozen in place and will not allow typed letter entries for those textbox from compact framework. Numbers are fine. The Stylus driven keyboard works fine and nd non-.net framework projects do not exhibit this problem. Anyone know of a pointer to a fix for this problem?     - Control.Invoke() problem at exit Hi I wanted to make a control with a method that is called asynchronously to adjust something displayed in the control. I used this.Invoke() to do this, and it works great until I close the form. Then I get an exception because the method is being called after the control is disposed. I tried to avoid this by stopping the thread when the Form1.Closing event happens, but it does not help. How can I make this work properly?     - XDA Exec Screen Resolution issue Hi, I have an in house application on on O2 XDA Exec [HTC Universal]. The icons and the main form are showing up as small and take up approx 50% of the screen in both Landscape and Portrait mode. The app works fine on other PDAs XDA mini, iPAQ etc. The strange thing is that controls such as text boxes dropdowns are the correct size Hs anybody come across something similiar before, any help would be greatly appreciated.     - No free slot for more dll's Hi, I've got a project with heavy graphic elements (picture boxes, image lists etc). At some point of development I needed additional dll's but I can't load them since I'm out of "dll's memory" slots. I thought of several solutions: 1) generate a seperate exe utility that is activated from the main exe, and is actually an interface to the dll. (did that. takes too long for the exe to load each time I need it). 2) Use the same utility as a tcp/ip server. did that. for some reason, the utility is ending with "native error"... and restarted automatically by my software. 3) Use messaging. 4) try to load the bitmaps on the fly, only the needed ones. This way I might free enough space for the additional dll. My questions: 1) Are there any other solutions? 2) What is your opinion about the best way to solve it? 3) How can I check to see how far am I from being able to load additional dll('s) ?     - Closing Sockets Hi guys, I'm developing an application for the windows ce 4.2, I'm using .Net Compact Framework 2.0 SP2 (manually installed) , I'm comunicating with a server using a simple WinSocket 2 protocol, it works nice, however I came across some problems I cant call the Close method on the TcpClient object I'm using to connect to the server, If I call this method, next time I create a TcpClient I cant perform a read operation It will wait forever unless I write more data into the stream; if I dont close the TcpClient object and I just let it go out of scope it works fine, I'm a little worried about leaking memory with this beahavior. Has anyone experienced somthing like this? A couple of more questions: 1- how do I specify the installation folder for the GAC in the compactframework cab? it seems it always writes something to the windows folder and I lost those files everytime I hard reset my device! 2- maybe somebody can tell me how can I force my device to connect to a wireless network whenever it is on range Thanks in advance! -- Roberto Tag: CSS background image on webbrowser control Tag: 83674

I tried to fix possible soultions as best as I can...However, I can't figure out how this works WITH THE CRADLED device. Once I take off the device from the cradle, then test under wireless connection, it WORKS perfectly..... It is so strange......Why the server ONLY receives 99% when the PPC cradles?????     - Strange sudden shutdown issue with CF app Hi, We have created an app that basically connects to a web service gets data, then stores it locally on the device, and when a record needs to be modified/added the system first tries to connect the web server sees if its availible, if not then it stores in locally on the device until the connection comes back, now I noticed that if the device does not mess around with the data connection then the application sits nicely as long as its open, and never gets shut down (unless the system automatically shuts it down due to memory constraints). However on devices that has a phone, and even more if the device is connected to an exchange server with push email and/or there are calls for a longer period of time, if you go back to the application afterword and while doing basically anything that worked before (before a lengthy call or so, don't know really what is causing but I've seen some indication that this might be the case) like a charm but now doing that same action will blow out the program, most of the times without any exception, and sometimes I would get NullReferenceException and the trace will show really basic internal trace, and everytime something else where the same action before worked just fine, and also note that those exceptions point no where to anything related to the connectivity of the device, but mostly front end stuff. But again most of the time I get no exception at all but just simply disappears. It might be that there are some external native exception that is not being chought but am puzzled at where to start looking.     - Converting Desktop Project to Compact Framework I have come across an Open Source project written in C#. I would like to try my hand at porting it to the Compact Framework. Before I can get started however I need to convert/create CF projects for the code. The code consists of a library and an application. Both are structured with various sub directories containing files that pertain to a specific area of functionality. As far as I can tell I need to manually create all directories in Visual Studio, then copy the files into the newly created directories and finally add them to the CF projects.     - problem with dbnull errors Hello I have a project in VS 2005, VB.net and .NET CF. I have one particular form with controls that are bound to a stronly typed dataset. In the Load event of the form, there are 4 tableadapters that fill. The first 3 fill fine. The last one throws a NoNullAllowedException, telling me Column ColumnName does not allow Null. All of the columns in the datatable are set to allow nulls. I am not sure how to solve this problem. I even set that particular field in code to AllowDBNull Please help.     - how to filter and hide poom appointments in datagrid hi there, i am having a problem about how to filter and hide some of the appointments in a datagrid. i am working on a wm5 calendar application using c# 2005 and cf2.0. i built a datagrid with: private AppointmentCollection apptcollection; apptcollection = outlooksession.Appointments.Items; dgrid.datasource = apptcollection; everything seems fine as i can use the Restrict method to filter the appointments that i want to display. however, the Restrict method cannot handle criterion which is a bit more complicated, e.g. Appointment.Location contains (not equals to) "Office". i guess what i need to do is looping through the restricted apptcollection, and hide or remove the rows that i do not want. i do not want to directly remove the rows in apptcollection because it really causes the records to be deleted from the database. i know a dataview can do what i want, however it does not accept apptcollection to be its source because apptcollection is not a datatable, i.e. DataView firstView = new DataView(apptcollection); *** compile error *** Argument '1': cannot convert from 'Microsoft.WindowsMobile.PocketOutlook.AppointmentCollection' to 'System.Data.DataTable' can anyone tell me what i can do to hide or remove some rows from a datagrid without affecting the underlying data records? thanks batterheadccw Tag: CSS background image on webbrowser control Tag: 83561

    - Camera hardware button in the registry I have an app that we use on 3 different devices and looking at the button configuration the camera button has a different hardware key on each one. I want to assign the camera hardware button to a button in my app on a specic screen but have issues due to it being different for each device.     - DesignerSerializationVisibility I've written a number of custom controls for the compact framework. When I use one of these controls on my forms, it generates a line like: "this.SelectedItem = null". This causes my code to go nuts and I'd like to suppress this code generation for the "SelectedItem" property.     - Way to get notified to an always running application at known inte I need a way to get some kind of notification to my application (always running) even if the device is sleeping? To explain better, I have an application which is running all the time, it needs to get notified by some means so that it performs some action say for every 15 minutes. Just want to keep the power consumption minimum, currently I have managed it with helper application which gets launched every schedule using CeSetUserNotificationEx.     - Datatables to portable! Hi. I have a requirement to write a Windows Service that will sit on a host and supply data to portable units on RF. I want to write this in such a way that the service will connect to any ODBC datasource, the portable will send SQL instructions via sockets to the service. This I have no problem with. I will have different routines for Insert, Update and Select in the host service, also certain routines to return Sum and other Agregate information. My issues are will returning the data to the portable. I can of course send all the data I want back to the portable on the open socket, but it's how to get that data back to the portable as a data table. I could quite easily write a routine to take a text string and turn it into a data table, but obviously this would take a lot of processing and time on the portables. Any ideas? Thanks.     - Wince 5.0 .Net 1.1 File Flush Problem I have a C# application using .Net 1.1 CF hosted on Wince 5.0. A part of the application is multithreaded and keeps a circular log file on compact flash updated with 71 byte records. Occasionally about 15% of the writes result, in only the first byte being corrupted and a zero is written instead of the normal value of ox32, none of the other bytes appear to be effected and an exception is not thrown. I have updated the application to perform a flush then a close and open for each write cycle, however this still does not fix the problem. Anyone else experienced this ?
