    - Determine .NET CF version? I'm developing an application targeted at the WM5 Pocket PC platform. I want to do some P/Invoke where I need to use MarshalAs. As far as I understand, MarshalAs should be available in CF 2.0 but maybe I have misunderstood that? I have installed CF 2.0 with the netcfsetupv2.msi file. Still I get an error message when I try to use the MarshalAs keyword (using System.Runtime.InteropServices). How can I determine what version of the CF Visual Studio 2005 is using?     - How to install Dotnet Compact Framework on my PDA ? Hello NG, I want to install ".net Compact Framework V 2.0" on my PDA because an application that is already installed on it need this. (It says that it needs an "newer version" of this, so there might already be an older version of it installed, in which case I think the new version should replace the old one to save space.) I found the web site for .net CF V2 on the web, downloaded this thing and have now a file called NETCFSetupv2.msi on my PC. But how do it use this ? In any case, just copying it to the PDA seems to be the wrong thing, the PDA's WindowsCE does not know what to do with this file (so I deleted this copy) I saw that *.msi - files are associated on my WinXP PC with an appl. called msiexec.exe (which seems normal according to what I read on the subject) stored in the System32 subdirectory of the Windows dir. (There is another file with the same name in the SoftwareDistribution subdir. of the Windows dir., with a [not so much] different size, my first idea was that this one might be the right one for my purpose, because I guessed that the normal one might want to install on the PC. Now I found out - in wikipedia - that the .net *C* F is devoted to PDAs and the like. So I can imagine that the msi-file will only produce an installation on PDAs, also with the 'normal' msiexec, the Softw.Distr. msiexec being always for install. to many computers in a network. But I'd like to know for sure. Therefore my 1st Q.: can you please confirm that the System32 msiexec is what has to be exec'd for my purpose ?) To be more precise, msi-files have 3 processes associated with them: install, repair and uninstall (one sees these among others when right-clicking on the msi-file), the first of these being shown bold, so that it will exec. on a double-click. It exec's msiexec with the following parameters: /i "%1" %* (may-be with less / extra spaces). And my 2nd Q. is: does this mean that I may just double-click the msi file (with admin' rights) and msiexec will present me (based on what is stored in the msi-file) the instructions that - when complied to - produce the desired install' on the PDA ? (I guess this might work at the condition that PDA and PC are already connected before starting with this, by which I mean connected physically *and* by software, i.e. ActiveSync showing "connected".)     - PowerEventWaitQueue On Windows Mobile 5.0 I am working on an app originally written for PPC 2003. We have since upgraded to WM 5.0, but have found that the code we use to detect a resume from sleep no longer works. The code is based on the sample code provided by Alex Feinman, found here: http://www.alexfeinman.com/download.asp?doc=PowerAwareApp.zip This worked perfectly on the old OS, but in the new OS the message queue never seems to be populated.     - .Net CF 1.0 Application crashes on WM5.0 Hi, I developed an application in .Net CF1.0 for WM 5.0 (Pocket PC). I am calling some native APIs through P/Invoke and have a few our own '.dlls'. The issues is that sometimes (two/three times a day)my application crashes without giving any exception or it opens standard Mircosoft error reporting page with lots of information. I can't understand the reason why it's not throwing exception. Can anybody help me please if you have any idea?     - Rewriting application from C# to MFC C++ Hi! I'm working on application written in C# but unfortunately because of Windows CE memory architecture which has a limit of memory usage 32Mb per each process. The most confusing part is that mine application consumes about 14 Mb of memory but other processes load to mine memory slot other dll and these dll files consumes more than 15 Mb of mine memory. So in fact for mine application I don't have 32 Mb of memory, all I can access is about 16Mb. I'm wondering what impact on memory usage would have rewriting application from C# (CF 2.0) co MFC in C++? How much memory I will save? Does anybody have experience with that?     - Cancelling a WM_CLOSE using Application2 of the Smart Device Framework The application I'm working on stores all information in-memory due to security restrictions. One of the problems we are having is other programs calling SHCloseApps() to free up memory. This will in extreme cases shut down our application, which effectively means that all stored information is lost. To prevent this from happening we have tried to catch the WM_CLOSE message coming from SHCloseApps. Catching the message works perfectly through the Application2 class in OpenNETCF. What doesn't work as well is cancelling the event, as the application exits anyway. Can anyone tell me if this happens because of the way SHCloseApps works? Is for instance TerminateProcess called when the application doesn't close? I was able to create the table and insert the values into the table . Then I Imported the database file from the emulator to the desktop and then I copied the sdf file to the \\bin\\debug directory current in the project folder. When I tired to run the program , I a getting an error which is given below The database file cannot be opened. Check the the path of the database file. File Name = \program\SampleDatabase\ABC.sdf not found.     - .NET CF v2 not capatible on VGA Dell Axim! Hi Has anyone experienced any problems running .NET CF v2 applications on Dell Axim x51v/Dell Axim X50v (Pocket PC 2003SE or WM5.0)? Whenever my users exit the .NET CF v2 application the today screen shows large patches of purple. Only way to fix this is to soft reset or rotate the screen.     - New Windows Mobile 5.0 projects have non-PDA form size I've made CE apps before, in Dev Studio 2003, and the IDE automatically produced a form that was appropriate for the PDA. These are LXE MX5 Devices with integrated Scanners.     - Problem with design controls (This message is cross-posted in vsnet.ide and dotnet.framework.compactframework as I am not sure where it belongs) Hi! I've converted a Compact Framework solution from VS2003 to VS2005. The solution contains several projects, one main project and a number of subprojects (i.e. winapi, serialport, GPS, custom controls etc.). After opening the project in VS2005 I step through the conversion wizard, no problems occurs. But, at this point I can't add any custom controls to forms in design view. - This only happens to this specific project (the main project)! - I can upgrade my subprojects, for instance the CustomControls solution and add custom controls to it's testform. - I can also create new projects and add the custom controls in design time! - I can add standard controls without problem to any project! To be able to add a ImageControl from the SDK from the maker of our PDAs I need to upgrade the project to CF2. I get the same error message here when the project is upgraded and I try to add the ImageControl to a form. ### So something is messing up the designer using custom controls in this particular project! ### I actually managed to add the ImageControl to the migrated and upgrade project once, I thought I did something right (which I did wrong previously) so I started correcting and adding small changes throughout the code, and when I got to the point when I really needed to add the ImageControl again, I get the same error!!! Note! The error occurs on other controls as well, I am using the ImageControl as it is a well tested 3rd party control. Here's the error I get, it also causes VS to crash (I've sent an error report some of the times): Failed to create component 'ImageControl'. The error message follows: 'System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at System.Resources.Tools.StronglyTypedResourceBuilder.DefineResourceFetchingProperty(...     - About the Focused Form Thanks for your response. Paul. The reason of a form always be focused is that: It can make the form react with the FunctionKey at any time. In my device there are some FunctionKeys and a small keyboard, the FuctionKeys should be responsed at the instance the user push it. So I let the Form always Focused to recieve all key event and dispatch the non-FunctionKey event to the cotrol in it. Does you has better solution? thank you very much. It only works on the assemblies with no white spaces in the assembly name. I have tried multiple combination without success.     - My own autoupdater - problem Hello, I have created an autoupdater webservice for my PPC2003 application, and have managed to retrieve the download.cab from my web service on my device. Next, however, while trying to install the new version, I run into the fundamental problem of not being able to run the installer cab, since the old version of the application (which has spawned the autoupdate request) is still running. When wceload then tries to install the cab, it rightfully complains of a lock on the application executable, not being able to overwrite the currently runnning version. Of course the simplest workaround would be to let the user run the update.cab file after closing the application, but there is no guarantee my user base will be tech-savy enough to perform the necessary actions (that is, a) open an explorer and b) let wceload.exe execute the cab-file by clicking on it). I can think of some other options (create a process which kills the current user application), but they don't seem elegant, requiring much works for something that is or seems to be so simple. I'm more than aware of all the issues surrounding change of ipaddress/availability etc relating to a mobile device connecting via GPRS. Right now, the device is connected and whilst testing it's ipaddress does not change or loose it's connection, unless there is something more subtle going on, the basic connection does not appear to be a problem. A very simple client/server app runs fine when the device is on the local network, but the client fails to connect to the mobile server when the server is connected with GPRS. However, switching the apps around and running the server on the PC and the client on the GPRS device works fine. It is almost like the provider is port blocking the incoming connection to the mobile device but allowing the outgoing connection (it's not a local firewall/router issue). Does this sound plausible, I'm using Orange in the UK (APN: orangeinternet)? I have also tried running an FTP server on the device, this works fine normally, but when trying to connect to it over the GPRS, it fails, as does trying to ping the device. I've found that -service "SMS" does sms text messages. -service "MMS" does MMS text messages. However, I can't find the one for E-mail !! This means that whenever I call Pocket Outlook again, it defaults to using the previous setting (i.e. SMS or MMS).     - Switching between networks I have a VB.NET 2003 application running on a CE 4.2 device, that connects wirelessly to an SQL Server 2000 database running on a PC network. The device also connects via the internal 802.11b card to a wireless portable printer. I have both of these parts of the application running OK, but my problem is that I have to manually switch between the 2 connections. I need my application to do this automatically. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I also have a problem with IP addresses. Currently, when connected to the network, the CE device receives an automatic IP address, but with the printer I have to set up a static IP address. Can this be set up from the application, or am I better off using one static IP address for both parts. If this is the case do I need to set up the network to use the same set of IP addresses as the printer(s)?Thanks in advance. Having a collection of objects implemented through BindingList<OrderRow> 2. OrderRow implements INotifyPropertyChanged to track changes to properties, in particular to the quantity one. The collection is bound to a ListBox via BindingSource. When I add/remove items from the collection, the listbox gets updated the correct way. If I add the same objects multiple times to the collection the listbox updates _only_ the quantity of the object displayed on the first row! E.g.: Nr. 1 - My first row Nr. 1 - My second row Adding another 1 quantity of "My first row" produces: Nr. 2 - My first row Nr. 1 - My second row This holds true for each quantity of "My first row" added. Adding another 1 quantity of "My second row" produces: Nr. 2 - My first row Nr. 1 - My second row During debug I found the quantities gets updated correctly in the collection.     - CF 2.0: Problem with DataGrid and decimal column Hi to everyone, This is the very first application I'm writing in C# .Net 2.0 for a Smart device. I've a class which, among its properties, there's one whose type is decimal. This class' instances are bound to a datagrid via BindingSource. When debugging via the emulator the datagrid correctly reports the value in the decimal property. Deploying the application to the pocket pc (WM 5.0) everything works ok except for the decimal column. E.g.: If the property has a value of 0.52, the emulator displays 0.52 (as I expected), while on the pocketpc it displays 52! Summing up the column values for each row in the datagrid actually produces the sum of only the fractionary parts! I've read over the internet that with CF 1.1 there was a problem with decimal columns, is it true? Does this still holds true for CF 2.0? Thanks in advance for your help.     - About the Always Focused Form, Paul Thanks for your response. Paul. The reason of a form always be focused is that: It can make the form react with the FunctionKey at any time. In my device there are some FunctionKeys and a small keyboard, the FuctionKeys should be responsed at the instance the user push it. So I let the Form always Focused to recieve all key event and dispatch the non-FunctionKey event to the cotrol in it. Does you has better solution? thank you very much. Now it should possible run on a vga device (480x640). Can I use the same application to run on a qvga device AND on a vga device without any changes?!     - my app is loosing 1.5MB mem per day?! Hello, I'm getting confused. I updatec CF to 1.0 SP3. I call Dispose() for every object which provides it. I added finalizers and impemented IDisposable interface for each of my classes. I had made some statistics with performance counters. Now I'm checking memory status with GC.GetTotalMemory() & GlobalMemoryStatus(). It seems that I'm loosing 1kB per minute - circa 1.5MB per day. GC.Collect() leaves behind some memory unfreed.
