    - Executables integrity verification in WM5 Hi, When a new application is going to be executed, WM does the code signing verification and ask the user to run or not the application (i.e. "The program if from an unknown publisher. Running it can possibly harm your device. Do you want to continue?"). If the user accepts to run the application, WM is not going to ask again if the user want to run the application. However, if the application is modified (i.e. changing a bit of the binary file), WM ask you again the same question, as the application were new. My conclusion is that WM keeps a database with the integrity hash of each application the user have accepted to run, maybe in the system registry.     - Hide caption bar (WM5 PPC) Using the designer I am able to hide the caption bar (top bar), but when returning from another application that was started by my application, the caption bar reappears. Resetting the WindowState to FormWindowState.Maximized when the Form regains focus changes nothing. public partial class MainForm : Form { protected override void OnGotFocus(System.EventArgs e) { this.WindowState = FormWindowState.Maximized; } } This only happens when returning from other applications, not when returning from other screens in the same application.     - Bitmaps on monochrome device throw ArgumentException In a C# application, I want to use a Bitmap loaded from a file, but the Constructor "new Bitmap("filename.bmp")" keeps throwing an ArgumentException, when using it on a device with monochrome display (1 bpp). The exact same routine, used on the same device, but with color display (8 bpp), works perfectly. I tried loading the Bitmap in a native application, built with eVC4, using the native API call "SHLoadDIBitmap", and it loads without problems on both devices and can be displayed. Unfortunately, I cannot use this function in C#, since it returns a HBITMAP, which NETCF does not know of, and I have no idea as how to wrap this in a Bitmap-derived class. So, the bitmap file seems to be OK, and the display driver of the terminal as well. What remains, is that NETCF seems to have a problem with monochrome displays with color depth 1 bpp. Can anyone verify this, or even has a solution for the problem? Someone from Microsoft, perhaps?     - Updating 2005 mobile database through tableAdapter.Update() halts app, with no exception thrown I have a .net CF 2.0 app which stores its data in a replicated sql2005 mobile database. I can synchronise the replication subscription and fill my typed dataset with the auto-generated tableadapters, but when I attempt to save the dataset changes I make to the mobile database, the application immediately dies without any exceptions being thrown. However, this is only happening when I run the application on the physical device: an HP iPaq hw6515 running pocketPC 2003 se - when I run the same code on an emulator (at least, on the "Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Square Emulator"), or as a desktop windows application, the data is saved without any problems. Does anybody know of any issues with hp handhelds and/or sql mobile which could explain this? Are there any patches or hotfixes to the compact framework or the sql mobile libraries I should look at? I've seen Bug #: 11656 (SQL Server CE) at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923979 , but I don't think it applies, as no error is raised and I can still update records in the database using the query analyser.     - Smartphone: Back key Hi, I have an app that have numerous pages. These 'pages' are controls with controls in them (only one page is visible at any one time). When I tap on the Back Key (emulator), it minimizes the app. I tried adding KeyPress in the main form, I also tried adding KeyPress in the page's main control, neither see the ESC key. If for example, the focus is a listview and the user presses the Back key, who gets 'told' and what do they get told? Do I need to add a KeyPress to ListView and all other controls I use? I implemented an application (named "WinCEApp") using C++ and Windows CE SDK, that used "ShellExecuteEx" method (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wceshellui5/html/wce50lrfShellExecuteEx.asp) to launch an other application (named "DotNetCFApp") implemented in C# with .Net Compact Framework. "ShellExecuteEx" mothod passed to "DotNetCFApp" application a command line argument. If "DotNetCFApp" application is closed, in this case, when "WinCEApp" application calls "ShellExecuteEx" method, "DotNetCFApp" is opened with the correct command line argument passed through "Main(string[] args)" method. But if "DotNetCFApp" application is already opened (for eg. in minimize state), in this case, when WinCEApp" application calls "ShellExecuteEx" method with a new command line argument, "DotNetCFApp" application is activated but the new command line argument is not passed. After the last call of "ShellExecuteEx" method I checked the command line argument of "DotNetCFApp" using P/Invoke for "GetCommandLine" method (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wcecoreos5/html/wce50lrfgetcommandline.asp) and it returned the old command line argument passed form the first call of "ShellExecuteEx, not the new one. I tried to replace "ShellExecuteEx" method with "CreateProcess" method (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wcecoreos5/html/wce50lrfcreateprocess.asp) but the results were the same. Is there anyone who knows how I can activate and pass the new command line argument to an application that is already running?     - How do I access text file on handheld from PC I need to access a text data file on a handheld device from an application running on a desktop system. The handheld will be connected to the PC and available through an activesync connection. Windows Explorer from the PC can see the files and directory structure on the handheld, but I can't seem to point a file open dialog to the handheld.     - [CF2.0] Class library and localized resources Hi, I have a solution with two projects : Client.exe and Library.dll. The app client.exe reference the project library.dll. The solution is set up to deploy only the exe file (to avoid the dll to create a folder in program files, but the dll is deployed along the exe file). Noth client.exe and library.dll have resource files that are localized (ex: errors.resx, errors.fr.resx, form1.resx, form1.fr.resx, etc.). When I deploy the solution with VS 2005, the client.exe file and its sattelite assemblies are deployed, but for the library.dll assembly, only the dll itself is deployed, not the localized sattelite assemblies. I am developing a application that displays current battery usage and status. currently, I can get "battery life time" and "battery status" (like high, low, charge...) correctly. however, if user plug-in/out power cord, my application cannot respond to this fact, change "low to charging"....     - CF Mouse wheel events I have posted on this before and tried a few low level things without much sucess. I want to trap the mouse events in a multi form Windows Mobile 5 application. The forms are full screen, taskbar hidden, auto scrolling disabled. Using a Stowaway Bluetooth mouse and its driver. Whilst when used with desktop windows, the mouse events are trappable, not so on CF with WM5. THey tend togo to a form's window scroll, which I don't want. So I have added a vertical slider. When I click on the form the vents can go through to the slider, whose event I can trap. Problem is that I have to click on the form first. The app involves moving through many forms and having to cickbefore using an up and down gesture with the wheel is a pain. I have tried setting focus to the slider when the forem gets focus but it soon looses focus (can trap its lost focus event) Any help would (urgently) be appreciated. Been tryingt o solve this for days! So the question is: "How can I force the focus and activity of a form to a vertical slider control using CF and WM5 when a form is brought to the form with a form.show event on another form."     - DateTimePicker problems on smartphones Hi, I am writing an app in C# that uses the DateTimePicker control. I first tried using the System.Windows.Forms.DateTimePicker control and it works perfect for me on the PPC devices however the same code does not seem to work on smartphones. The control displays ok, but none of the arrow keys change any of the values in the control. Next I tried using the OpenNETCF.Windows.Forms.DateTimePicker control. The first thing I noticed is that it does not seem to honor the following code... using OpenNETCF.Windows.Forms; DateTimePicker control = new DateTimePicker(); control.Format = DateTimePickerFormat.Custom; control.CustomFormat = "hh:mm tt"; It displays the MM/dd/yyyy format instead... So, I changed it to use the Time format. That seemed to work, but I get the unwanted seconds field in the control. Now, my only issue is how do I get it out of edit mode? The control seems to be sucking up all the keystrokes and I have no way to tab off the control. Normally I am looking for the center 5-way/VK_RETURN and if I get that key I end the edit mode.     - Push Listener Hello, I try to make a push listener for PPC/SP. On a desktop device, I would simply launch a thread with a TcpListener and listen to incoming push notifications. 1/ But for a mobile phone, the device ip adress changes very often. Is it possible to be notified (by an event) when the phone ip adress has changed ? Currently I poll the adress of the phone every few seconds to detect these changes. 2/ I use a TcpListener in a thread that listens on the last detected ip address on the phone.     - Bluetooth GPS I have a GPS program I wrote with the help of OpenNetCF's GPS library, which is great by the way. The only gripe I have (Not with OpenNetCF) is every time I turn on the GPS unit and try to connect, it asks me if I want to add the device to my Bluetooth device list, then prompts me for my passkey, then I have to go and setup the outgoing port. This is just annoying to do everytime I want to connect to the device. Is there any way to automate this? What i have done is i am drawing image on the button in onPaint() using e.drawimage ; I am also taking care that my bit map becomes transparent(all corners) . It has been a pain for me as the application that being built is quite complex and references multiple dlls. You can call into the ConnectionManager APIs as documented in the Windows
Mobile SDK (or use the wrappers in the OpenNETCF SDF) to establish an
internet connection.
