    - Selection on Context Menu Without Mouse Pointers Hi all, How can I emulate the menu selection by using the arrow keys?     - Large static System.Byte[] We coded our own stand-in for System.ConfigurationSettings that is using and XmlReader to pull in the key/value pairs from the configuration\appSettings\add elements in the .config file, and add them to a NameValueCollection. CLR Profiler tells me that XmlReader is allocating a 64K System.Byte[] that seems to survive garbage collection for the life of the application. So I put together a simple repro that on button_click just instantiaties an XmlTextReader, passing it a new FileStream, and then immediately closes the XmlTextReader, allowing it to go out of scope, and thus it and its resources should get garbage collected... CLR Profiler still shows a 64K System.Byte[] that lives for the life of the application. A GC Heap snapshot from remote performance monitor shows it in red as [root: Static (Sytem.Xml.XmlCharType)] System.Byte[](Size: 65548 Bytes, ID: 0x00038007) Can anyone shed light?     - Handles Surviving When profiling a simple app just to get a feel for how to use the CLR profiler, I notice that there are 5 "Handles Surviving" after exiting the application. I'm having a little bit of a struggle with what this should be telling me. When I dig into the graphs, none of the surviving handles are coming from any classes or methods written by me - they seem to all be coming from the form and standard .net controls on it...I just have a form that I dragged three buttons and a checkbox onto - I think these must be the five handles (and I think this is confirmed by the allocation graph for "Handles Surviving")...So I guess I don't have a question so much as I would like validation, and maybe an idea of what to watch out for in a more real-world scenario.     - Problems with a Windows Mobile 6 device running a PPC 2003 app Hi, I have an application that has been running fine for a couple of years, now I have a WM 6 device (a HTC E100). Now this application has a number of weirds erros like: mystring.Replace("$",""); throwing a Native Exception.     - Com ports over bluetooth Hi there, We're trying to communicate with a PPC (O2 Orbit, windows mobile 5) using COM Ports over bluetooth which have done sucessfully, sending data in both directions. (VS2005 .netCF v2) However, we're now trying to mointor the status of the RTS / CTS pin and although we can set it both ends, on the PPC end the status is not updated - does anyone have any suggestions?     - Compact Framework CLR Profiler I am trying to make use of the .NETCF CLR profiler that was recently released separate from the 3.5 beta compact framework sdk: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C8174C14-A27D-4148-BF01-86C2E0953EAB&displaylang=en I have been able to use it to successfully launch a simple example application (both via IP and via active sync), but shortly after the application starts up, the profiler running on the desktop throws this error - confusing since the application actually pulls up after using the profiler to start it: This operation returned because the timeout period expired. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800705B4) I have been able to get the Remote Performance Monitor tool to work, but not the profiler, and I would appreciate any help anyone might be able to give. I have no trouble adding support for 240x320 <=> 320x240 or 240x240, and if I change the resolution to VGA in the OAC in Visual Studio, it automatically displays a 640x480 sized control.     - Exception in method called by Invoke When my CF1 application starts up, it loads its main form: static void Main() { try { Application.Run(new MainForm()); } catch(Exception e) { MessageBox.Show("Unhandled error: " + e.Message, "My App", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Hand, MessageBoxDefaultButton.Button1); } } In its OnLoad method, the new form starts a thread. When the thread is done, it calls Invoke(). The invoked method is throwing an exception. The exception is caught by the try/catch block above in main, and the application exits. It appears the thread is still running, presumably blocking on the Invoke. (I put a breakpoint after the Invoke, and it's never hit. The debugger doesn't close either.) Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? What's the correct way to approach this?     - NullReferenceException while Deserializing in Web Services I have upgraded a .Net CF 1.0 project to .NET CF 2.0 using VS.NET 2005. The project makes calls to Web Services written in Java and it has been working fine in CF 1.0. I have also upgraded the Web Reference using the existing WSDL. The proxy has been created properly. However after the upgrade I can call only few of the Web Methods and some of the web methods failed with NullReferenceException during Deserialization process. I have noticed some changes in reference.cs as below.. Decimal types were declared as System.Nullable<decimal> etc. I tried by changing this back to System.Decimal instead of using nullable types, but this did not help either. The stack also doesn't give any relevant information except saying that the call failed due to NullReferenceException.     - Regarding hosting Flash ActiveX control in CF2.0 Hi, I saw Mr.Alex Feinman's webcast regarding "COM and DOT Interop in CF2" at http://blog.opennetcf.org/afeinman/PermaLink,guid,1dfc3c39-d3cc-4faa-b5f6-cb5c9aed61dd.aspx I have a question regarding the section on hosting activex controls in CF2.0. I tried out what he had suggested and I was able to successfully host a Flash player activex control for PPC inside a CF2.0 C# application. But I am running into one problem. I am building a projector application for a Windows CE 5.0 device. So my requirement is that I need to embed the flash movie inside my application. I tired to set the EmbedMovie property in the designer and also specify the path of the flash file (I gave the path on the development PC where the actual swf file is stored, assuming it is going to embed it in the application during design time) for the Movie property. But this does not embed the movie inside the application. Is there something I am missing or is this not possible when we host an activex control in CF2.0 by the method he had suggested?     - specifying CEAppMgr destination directory for persistent CAB files Is there a way to tell CEAppMgr where to place my CAB files before installing them, and to not delete them after install? I can successfully deploy my app to CE5 devices using CEAppMgr. The multiple CAB files all get installed to the correct locations, then get deleted. In an effort to allow my app to be reinstalled following cold boots, I have created registry files in the "Application" directory that look for and relaunch the CAB files upon cold boot (Symbol MC3000 system). This works if I manually place the CAB files in the nonvolatile "Application" directory where the REG file is set to look for them. However, I cannot figure out how to direct CEAppMgr to place and leave the CAB files in the "Application" directory during my automatic install. My install process is a self-extracting ZIP that unzips the 5 CABs and corresponding .INIs to a temp dir on the users PC. It then launches a bat file that calls CEAppMgr passing the 5 .INI files. This works great, my app and supporting CABs (CF, SQL CE, etc) all get installed correctly, but after it runs, the CAB files themselves are deleted, so the auto reinstall after cold boots fail.     - Async sockets Hi, We were using AppForge Crossfire until they disappeared a little while ago. So now were looking at replacing various bits of that with other components. Regarding sockets, we would like a component that works asyncronously, so we can catch an event when data arrives, and then simply read it from a property.     - Read Values of Registry Key Hello, I am trying to create a setup.dll file. In the "Install_Exit" part of Setup.dll i am trying to find if .net compact framework is installed or not. My knowledge of evc++ is minimal. I understand from what i read, that i should use RegOpenKeyEx : RegOpenKeyEx(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,_T("SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\ \.NETCompactFramework"),0,0,&key) After i open this how do i read the values of this key. I will need the values to know which version of .NET CF is installed on the system. I read some where that it would be 2.0.0.0 for .NET CF 2.0, but when i checked that value on my PPC using remote registry editor, that value was 2.0.5238.00. So my question is, is there any way with which i can read these values programmatically. And i guess i can assume that if any of these values starts with "2.0", then .Net CF is installed. Also it would be great if some one could point me to some link where i can open a web link programmatically from this setup.dll in IE.     - Simple, cheap, big Hi, I'd like to run a C# app (written for the CF) on a device having the following characteristics and was hoping someone could recommend a device. All attributes mentioned below are approximate and can vary a little: -8x6" -800x1024 pixels (color and portrait mode required) -WM5, WM6, XP, or Vista (or some other variant) - very flexible here -CF 1, 2, .... - very flexible here -WiFi not required -SD card slot or HD required -preferably solid state RAM -1GB RAM would be nice, but I guess with XP 512MB would be fine - on a WM device only 64MB would be fine. -slot for adding external HSDPA card or device has built-in HSDPA (required) -physical keyboard not required Basically what I'd like to find is something kinda like the UMPC, but with the 'light-weight' of WM5 or WM6; i.e. instant turn-on/off, etc etc etc. Any 'Pocket PCs' out there with such a large screen?     - Dialog and Databindings I've read a lot of this in newsgroups, but didn't find an answer. And on my app it still doesn't work as I want. Just what am I doing. I have a form (dialog, MinimizeBox is set to false). On that form are some TextBoxes which Text property is bound to an objects properties. The form has the "OK" on the page header and a Button on it which shall act as "Cancel" First I thought that the Form.DialogResult influences whether the bound controls expose there values to the properties or not. This doesn't seem so. How can I determine if the object properties are updated or not when using databinding? Second, changing a value in a TextBox, leaving the focus in that TextBox and clicking the "OK" does not update the bound property. What have I to do to handle the focus propbelm properly? Hi, My application gets custom event notification and is working as expected sending the custom event as app name (\\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\MyTestEvent) using the API CeSetUserNotificationEx.     - textbox, compact framework, slideout button text entry problem I have a WM6 HTC device that refuses to type in letters when I use the slide out physical button keyboard. The symptom is as if the "fn" button is frozen in place and will not allow typed letter entries for those textbox from compact framework. Numbers are fine.     - Control.Invoke() problem at exit Hi I wanted to make a control with a method that is called asynchronously to adjust something displayed in the control. I used this.Invoke() to do this, and it works great until I close the form. Then I get an exception because the method is being called after the control is disposed. I tried to avoid this by stopping the thread when the Form1.Closing event happens, but it does not help. How can I make this work properly?     - XDA Exec Screen Resolution issue Hi, I have an in house application on on O2 XDA Exec [HTC Universal]. The icons and the main form are showing up as small and take up approx 50% of the screen in both Landscape and Portrait mode.     - No free slot for more dll's Hi, I've got a project with heavy graphic elements (picture boxes, image lists etc). At some point of development I needed additional dll's but I can't load them since I'm out of "dll's memory" slots. I thought of several solutions: 1) generate a seperate exe utility that is activated from the main exe, and is actually an interface to the dll. (did that. takes too long for the exe to load each time I need it). 2) Use the same utility as a tcp/ip server. did that. for some reason, the utility is ending with "native error"... and restarted automatically by my software. 3) Use messaging. 4) try to load the bitmaps on the fly, only the needed ones. This way I might free enough space for the additional dll. My questions: 1) Are there any other solutions? 2) What is your opinion about the best way to solve it? 3) How can I check to see how far am I from being able to load additional dll('s) ?     - Closing Sockets Hi guys, I'm developing an application for the windows ce 4.2, I'm using .Net Compact Framework 2.0 SP2 (manually installed) , I'm comunicating with a server using a simple WinSocket 2 protocol, it works nice, however I came across some problems I cant call the Close method on the TcpClient object I'm using to connect to the server, If I call this method, next time I create a TcpClient I cant perform a read operation It will wait forever unless I write more data into the stream; if I dont close the TcpClient object and I just let it go out of scope it works fine, I'm a little worried about leaking memory with this beahavior. Has anyone experienced somthing like this?     - Strange sudden shutdown issue with CF app Hi, We have created an app that basically connects to a web service gets data, then stores it locally on the device, and when a record needs to be modified/added the system first tries to connect the web server sees if its availible, if not then it stores in locally on the device until the connection comes back, now I noticed that if the device does not mess around with the data connection then the application sits nicely as long as its open, and never gets shut down (unless the system automatically shuts it down due to memory constraints). However on devices that has a phone, and even more if the device is connected to an exchange server with push email and/or there are calls for a longer period of time, if you go back to the application afterword and while doing basically anything that worked before (before a lengthy call or so, don't know really what is causing but I've seen some indication that this might be the case) like a charm but now doing that same action will blow out the program, most of the times without any exception, and sometimes I would get NullReferenceException and the trace will show really basic internal trace, and everytime something else where the same action before worked just fine, and also note that those exceptions point no where to anything related to the connectivity of the device, but mostly front end stuff. But again most of the time I get no exception at all but just simply disappears. It might be that there are some external native exception that is not being chought but am puzzled at where to start looking.
