    - OleDbCommand and OleDbDataReader hello list, when working with the oledbcommand object, i need to open more then one recordset at a time, when i try to have multiple recordsets opening from the one command i get the error "the oledbcommand is currently open, busy fetching" I dont see why this should be a problem... A copy of my code is below...     - 'Hiding' an application Im writing an app that when executed, has a UI. The user then can 'hide' the app and let it continue running doing whatever it does. I try to get the app's focus again by executing it again. Code is .net2/c#. Currently, I use application.hide to hide the app, but i cannot figure out how to regains the apps focus. Any ideas?     - Using C++ code developed in WinCE 4 in C# application in VS2003 Hi I have a need to incorporate C++ code developed in WinCE 4 (LCD driver for SED1520) in C# application developed in VS2003. This is new to me and am not quite sure how to approach. I have read information in MSDN and it seems that I need to build the driver as an DLL and use PInvoke in C# to call low level function in the C++ code. But again all references I read so far refer to C++ developed in Visual C++ not in WinCE 4. I would appreciate if anyone who have done this or have any suggestion to give me some advice.     - sharing a class between CF and non-CF projects I want to define my domain object classes (Customers, Orders, etc.) in an assembly to use in Compact Framework as well as ASP.NET and Windows Forms components. I don't want to duplicate validation logic, property definitions, etc. I'm considering using XPO (ORM) or something similar, and there are different references I need to use if I'm in one world or the other. Has anyone out there successfully straddled the CF and non-CF worlds this way? In C++, eVC, etc., you could use pre-compiler directives to include or exclude source files based on pre-compiler constants. Does Visual Studio 2005 have something like this?     - VS 2005 PocketPC project: no GroupBox control, no BorderStyle property for Panel control... Hi all, I'm starting my first project with .NET for Pocket PC by using Visual Studio 2005 Professional. My first shock: it is no GroupBox control on my Toolbox for the default created Device Application project created by VS. Which reference should I Add to my project to "see" the GroupBox? Or may be it is not available for the PocketPC? Ok, no GroupBox, then the Panel control should do the work. But it is here the second shock: The documentation says it should be a BorderStyle property to make the border solid and visible, but at least it is not available at design time 'cause I can't find it in my Properties...     - ListView ItemCheck is always one behind?? VB I am using Visual Studio 2005 (visual basic) and Compact Framework 2.0 I have a ListView that will contain several Items. The ListView has checkboxes enabled. Whenever the user clicks on a checkbox to change it (check or uncheck) I want to indicate how many items are currently checked. This routine below looks correct to me, but each time I check or uncheck the number reported back is always the previous count and not the current count of items that are checked.     - Setup.dll and CEAppMgr If I want to use a setup.dll to customize my installation, do I need to use the process described in http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnppcgen/html/netcfdeployment.asp?     - Printing options ( a little OT ) Hi, I need to print from a PPC to a printer , ideally a dot matrix printer ala Epson LX300 , LQ580. I know there is no support for printing in the current environment. I'm deciding in using either PrinterCE ( http://www.fieldsoftware.com/PrinterCE.htm ) or PrintBoy: (http://www.bachmannsoftware.com/pbce.htm) both provides an SDK for dotnet and seems equally good. My main concern is the connectivity, how to connect the above printers that are either serial or parallel to an iPaq? Is bluetooth the way to go? Basically I'm looking for feedback from anybody who had deployed something like this before.     - Program Memory Low - Select a task to close or increase program memory I've been putting my application(C#, .NET CF) through some stress testing when I encountered this pretty nasty problem. Basically, when the application runs out of memory I get the "Program Memory Low - Select a task to close or increase program memory" dialog window with a list of running tasks that I can close to choose from. My app, however is NOT listed there. So, if I close everything else and my app still needs more memory I keep getting instances of this dialog window with nothing to choose from until eventually the whole system crashes at which point I need to do a restart. So, it looks like I'll have to handle this problem inside my application. The problem is I could not find a way to programatically determine the amount of free memory at a given point of time. I also could not find any event that occurs when there is no more free memory which I could handle inside my app. Does anybody have any idea how I can handle this problem?     - VS 2005 Cab project doesnt include form localization resource dlls I found a bug in VS 2005. If you choose Localized=true on your form and then make some resx files e.g. Form1.de.resx and change all the strings to German ones as you usually do - when you deploy the project to a pda it works perfectly and creates a de folder on the device with the german resource dll in the folder. However if you make a CAB project and choose the app project to be included, when you build the CAB it does not include any of the localization dlls in it.     - Custom Uninstaller and App Manager Hi all, When I deploy my VS2003-compiled app, it installs EXEs to the desktop side and uses the ActiveSync AppMgr to install the CAB to the device. I also control the deployment using an MSI file and have a custom installer and uninstaller on the desktop. After my app is installed, I have found that it can be Removed in two places - i) the Remove button on ActiveSync's Tools -> Add/Remove Programs and, ii) the Remove button for the app on the Add or Remove Programs on the control panel. Removing my app using the Remove button on ActiveSync (AppMgr) works perfectly as it has been setup to call my uninstaller via the AppMgr INI file, and so things get tidied up on the desktop side as well as the device side. However, if I (or one of my customers) decide to remove my app using the Remove button in the Add or Remove Programs on the Control Panel, the removal process fails. I assume at this point the uninstaller has no knowledge that the app was installed on the device via AppMgr and so the removal from the device does not happen. How can I prevent either i) the app from appearing on the Add or Remove Programs list in Control Panel or ii) prevent the Remove button from being operational on the Add or Remove Programs list and give a reminder to use the ActiveSync Remove button instead?     - CF 1.1: socket timeout Hello all, I know that SetSocketOption throw an exception, even if it compiles. I really need to manage scoket timeout: I have a thread that opens a remote socket connection via GPRS. GPRS connection mving around often is quite unstable so sending and receiving may hang up blocking the thread. I try also to abort the thread even if it's not a good option, without any result.     - need to build limited browser as custom shell Hi, I have a pretty straightforward project for Windows CE. It would be a custom shell, launching a restricted browser, which would open up the default home page, allow forward and back buttons, but not let the user type in their own URLs. In other words, users would be forced to stay on the default website and any links from there. I'm deciding how to get started on this. It appears that the IE browser is available as an ActiveX control, but not as managed C# code. I've heard that OpenNetCF has a managed code browser control. Basically, I'm just looking for some direction here before I start down a path. My choices appear to be: 1) C# OpenNetCF 2) C# IE through interop/ActiveX 3) C++/ActiveX native solution I'm not crazy about the idea of interop, which seems like a square peg in a square hole... I don't know much about the OpenNetCF control. I'm an experienced C++ programmer, but I'm developing a taste for C# in a big way.     - WCELoad - Confirm file replace message I am working with the .Net Compact Framework, Windows CE 4.2 and VS .NET 2003 I have a situation where I need to silently install a cab file on the CE device, I cannot rely on the user pressing any yes/no buttons, so I have created the cab so that there are no read-only files etc. I install the cab by copying it onto the device and then remotely calling wceload.exe, using the OpenNetCF.Desktop.Communication.RAPI class, and giving it command line argument of /noaskdest "test.cab". Every now and then, and I cannot seem to nail the pattern, I receive a "Confirm file replace" message with Yes, Yes to All, No and No to All buttons. If I click Yes to All, I don't receive the message when I attempt to install the cab again, if I click No to All, I do, as you would expect. I have attempted to use /noui, but that doesn't help at all. I have attempted changing the fAskOptions value under the HKLM\Software\Apps\Microsoft Application Installer key, to no avail. I have exported the registry, both before and after an install and compared the two and there nothing out of the ordinary is changed. I have exported the filesystem information, again, before and after an install and compared the two and, again, nothing is out of the ordinary.     - Architecture Question Hi, I am still fairly new to developing apps for the ppc but I'm working o this app and came across an interesting question. The short story is: the app needs to access about 5,000 data records t be of any use. I have the option of using a webservice to provide th data to the ppc (through some sort of filtering mechanism) or spawnin a separate thread and downloading the data into a SQL CE databas (which takes between 5 and 10 mins) and then providing a filterin mechanism. If I choose the webservice, this obviously requires a constan connection - which apparently from the resources I've seen most of th ppc devices have that built in. That might make this the best option. The only reason I'm considering downloading the data to SQL CE is jus in case the user doesnt have a valid internet connection, the app coul still be utilized. Is this a legitimate concern? Or is the industry standard thinking th devices should always have an internet connection?     - Problems with Rs232 under Netcf I am using the Rs232 approach outlined in the Mdsn article "Use P/Invoke to Develop a .NET Base Class Library for Serial Device Communications" to connect to an Rs232 device from a WinCe device. I made modifications, some suggested on this forum. It does connect with the device but occassionaly it stops communicating. A simplier App that uses the OpenNetCf Port works reliably. Since I am migrating a fairly large App from desktop to WinCe I would rather not change their code more then necessary. The following are the code snippets that open, write to and read from the Rs232 line. Could you suggest what I might be doing wrong?     - Pocket PC Device Emulator - HostKey option and value I am trying to run the commandline as the following to launch an emulator instance from the saved state and send a key stroke to the emulator: "C:\Program Files\Windows CE 5.0 Emulator\Emulator_500.exe" /VMID {641834F7-7BD7-4A7B-B2CE-D11A2C48E93E} /hostkey E06B According to the Host Key Options http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wcedebug5/html/wce50conemulatorhostkeyoptions.asp for left arrow, I should use E06B as the value for /hostkey (please see the last option in the command above). But every time it just gives me invalid hostkey setting message. Tried different values, and got the same thing. Google'd the message, but got nothing. BTW, the image is Pocket PC 2003.     - Wifi connection programmatically without WZC Hi, We are developing an application with .netcf to connect programatically with several AP's. We wan't use the wireless zero configuration dll and we delete the entry registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Drivers->BuiltIn->ZeroConfig->Dll Without delete this key my application works fine because the WZC dll makes the first bind with an AP and with the latest version of SetWirelessSettings we can change the SSID. The problem is when we are trying to connect the first time with the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Drivers->BuiltIn->ZeroConfig->Dll deleted because we don't have conexion without any AP. Is posible to do this? Wich are the steps we need to do a wifi connection without using WZC? Is necessary use the connectionManager class before use the SetWirelessSetting method? How?     - Scrolling panel - initially displays already scrolled I added a panel to my form - panel1. In that I added 4 more. Each of these has some buttons in it. I set panel1 to autoScroll = true. When I display my form, the panel is already scrolled almost to the bottom. I tried setting panel1.AutoScrollPosition and panel1.AutoScrollPosition.Y but they don;t seem to have any effect.     - How to deploy two projects in same solution individually? In VS2003 I've got a Solution that contains two Projects; both projects have separate Output file folders, have different Assembly Names, etc. When I build the CAB file of the solution I update each INF file to specify different paths and application names. However when I deploy both cab files to the Pocket PC, the first installs ok. Then when the second cab file is installed, it says "ApplicationX is already installed. Do you want to reinstall?". Obviously I don't as it will uninstall the first install! Does anyone know how or where I should be specifiying unique application names so both cab files can get installed correctly?     - Intermittent problem when calling Socket.Available I have an intermittent problem where calling Socket.Available to see if there is any available data results in a SocketException with the message "An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket". Once the socket gets in this state it is no longer usable. This code is shared between a compact framework and desktop version of our app, and I've not experienced this on the desktop version. Has anyone else seen this before and can offer any suggestions as to how to overcome it? I'm thinking of detecting this particular exception and treating the socket as 'invalid', and signaling a disconnection event so the consumer knows the socket connection needs to be re-established, but that seems very kludgy to me. As a secondary question, I am currently taking the approach that I call Socket.Available before calling Socket.Read to ensure I don't have the receive thread entering a blocked state while I wait for data to appear via the socket. I'd love to be able to use a blocking read approach, but my inexperience with inter-thread communications on the CF has encouraged me to go with my current approach. In particular what I'm unsure of is how to fire an event from the socket reading/writing thread but have it run in the context of the thread which is consuming my socket class (which manages the socket thread). I think I'd be able to achieve close to what I want by using another thread who's sole purpose is to monitor the socket thread for events (by using WaitForMultipleObjects, so multiple events can be monitored), but this seems a little convoluted and messy to me. And even then, any delegate being fired from this event monitoring thread would be running in its context rather than the thread which originally created my socket class.     - Radio button background colour - CF 2, C# I made radio buttons with a coloured background, and placed them on a form that was the same colour. The buttons look great, aside from the white square behind the buttons! The square is the same size as the circle of the radio button.     - .NETCF 2.0 app abruptly exits without any exception info I'm seeing a weird problem in a .NETCF 2.0 application running on a HP hw6515 (PPC 2003 SE Smartphone edition). Sometimes, the application suddenly exits without (apparently) an exception occuring. The application itself is moderately heavy (uses a few native DLLs) but usually when a problem occurs in one of the DLLs, I get an exception message. In this case, I get nothing. I'm starting to suspect an issue with the .NETCF runtime. Did anyone see something similar? Unfortunately, the problem seems erratic. My app can run for hours without crashing, and sometimes after a few minutes (without touching the device) it will just ... poof! vanish. Any lead on this?     - Memory leak with container controls Hello, I have a form with a button, the button opens another form using showdialog. The second form contains a panel which contains a tabcontrol wich contains on each of its tabs a bunch of labels. After closing the second form, I call dispose and even ask for garbage collection, but even this way the memory is not freed.     - How to get a WM5 device's O/S Version in a call without using RAPI? Hi all, Currently, I have an app compiled in VS2003 that I want to also be able to run on WM5 devices for my customers. My custom installer uses MSI and RAPI calls for installation of my app. Currently, before I transfer the correct CAB for the device, I do a RAPI call to get the device's operating system version. This app has been designed for PPC 2002 and WM2003 including Second Edition, and therefore you need to know which CAB to install. I have found my app runs well on a WM5 device as I have it running on my Dell Axim X51v but I need to be able to know the device's operating system version for WM5 devices so I know what CAB version to download. The problem I am having is that some Pocket PC Phone Edition with WM5 , like the i-mate JasJar, seem to make RAPI unavailable. Does anyone have another idea / method of determining the i-mate JasJar's o/s version without using RAPI? BTW, this is to be my last patch update of my app under VS2003 and want it to deploy it onto WM5 devices since my customers are wanting this requirement. The next release of my app, after this patch update, will be a major update and will be compiled with VS2005 and use CF2, but for the interim period, I need to be able to use my current VS2003 compiled code on all WM5 devices.     - WebBrowser control - CF 2, C#. Full screen? I added a web browser control into my project yesterday. I want to use it to present Flash content, full-screen. It seems that no matter what settings I choose, the WebBrowser will not ever let the Flash movie fill the PDA screen. The movie was published at 240x320 resolution. The HTML says it is that size. I've tried publishing it larger, and manually editing the HTML to make the Flash file appear larger. In the HTML I added this css to make the html file margin free <style type="text/css">  </style> The WebBrowser is set to full screen, but I have also tested it larger than full screen. I have experimented with the various publishing options available in Flash. I've tried numerous other things (scale settings for instance) without success. I am unable to run any of the Remote Tools. I build and I attach to the
device. The image is copied to the device via TCP/IP, and the CE 5.0 image
boots.

I can then upload and debug VS 2005 CF 2.0 apps on the device with no
problems. Created the SDK 1st for this to work.

For some reason I am unable to connect using any of the remote tools in
Platform Builder????

Any suggestions???
