    - Adding Designer Support in Compact Framework user controls We created our controls and designer project following the steps in http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnnetcomp/html/customctrlscompactfx.asp We create a C# project with the user controls, and copy the runtime assembly file to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\CompactFrameworkSDK\v1.0.5000\Windows CE\" and the design-time assembly file to the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\CompactFrameworkSDK\v1.0.5000\Windows CE\Designer\". We have found some problems: 1) If we have a form open with our control, then we cannot overwrite the design time assembly file because it's use by VS. We have to close all form and restart VS and then we can update this file. Is there any workaround for this? 2) If we have a project that has a reference to the runtime assembly open in VS, then the same happens and we cannot update the runtime assembly until we restart VS. We can work around this issue by adding the reference to the controls project instead of the runtime assembly, but we don't know if it's correct. 3) The Designer Project cannot be created using VB .net because it doesn't compile.     - Imagelist being flushed? Hi! I'm using an imagelist to show images in a treeview and most of the time, it works fine running the application towards pocketpc 2003 emulator. But every now and then, the treeview doesn't show any images and when I stop debugging and check the imagelist (in designmode), it is empty and I have to reenter the images. I.e. a control that accepts input from the user. What I want to do is add a text character to the control, but only if it can hold text. For example if a button is focused, adding the char to this controls Text-property would change the name of the button, which I don't want... 1. What controls are "text-input" controls in CF?     - Marshalling Pointer In Structure Problem? I have a C program sample that I am reproducing, line for line in C# as I write our wrapper for a 3rd party library. The problem I believe I am having is related to marshalling a pointer in a structure. The C definition of the structure is: typedef struct _HSAFE { void *pHandleData; unsigned long u32Check; } HSAFE ; C# version ... struct HSAFE{ IntPtr pHandleData; uint u32Check; } When the function "ERROR Initialize( HSAFE *phSafe )" is called in C, it ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS returns the same values for pHandleData and u32Check. When the C# equivalent function "public static extern ERROR Initialize( ref HSAFE phSafe )" is called, it ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS returns the same value for u32Check, but pHandleData is different/wrong (the data at that location is 0).     - SateliteContractVersion - Anybody got localisation working by updating exe only? Hi I have an exe with a bunch of resources.dlls... The localisation mechanism works fine as long as the satellite assemblies and the main one have the same version number. If, however, I update the EXE only then localisation fails (i.e. even though the locale is not English, English strings are displayed - so the fallback mechanism has kicked into place). This seems different to a brief experiment I run on the desktop but nevertheless it seems to be the case. Can anybody confirm that the resource dlls MUST have the exact same version as the exe in order for localisation to work? Moving on, I thought that if I marked the main assembly with the SatelliteContractVersion("version of already deployed satellite assemblies here") it would all work but it doesn't - still have to deploy exe and resources.dlls together.     - SP1 .vs. SP2 TabControlSelectedIndexChanged Event I have noticed a difference in how SP2 handles the setting of focus to child controls. Example: I've created a simple application that has a tabcontrol with 3 tabpages. On each tabpage there is a listview and a textbox. When the user changes tabpages I set focus to the textbox on that tabpage within the tabcontrols SelectedIndexChanged event. In SP1 this works but in SP2 the focus goes to the correct textbox but then it leaves again. When I run this in debug mode and step through the code the focus stays within the textbox. I've tried this on an Ipaq, Symbol, and HHP Dolphin handheld all running PC2002. Since the keyboard doesn't have any of those keys I was hoping to produce the swedish characters from my code after I receive a certain key value from the user. I am using keybd_event from coredll.dll but I don't understand how I can produce a character of my own liking.     - Database options In order to learn a bit of C#, I am looking at developing a PC/Pocket PC application combo that will need a database of some sort. I want to be able synchronize the Pocket PC database with its PC counterpart. So far, I have found these options: - CE SQL server. I am not really keen on this as I would like the PC app to be a stand-alone app not needing an MS SQL server. - MS Access/Pocket Access using ADOCE from www.inthehand.com. I'll probably go with this one. XML is out as I need to do some queries that will be easy in SQL and fairly difficult without. What have I overlooked?     - Performance overhead Hi, I'd appreciate if someone could help me in clearing this confusion. Is there a performace overhead associated if we include our images, html files as embedded content in our exes, and load them from our assembly using Reflection and other methods w.r.t if we simply include them in a separate application folder, and then try to load/access them by providing a path using Path or other methods? I wanted to know this because I'm using a lot of gifs, and other Html files, which I've embedded in my exe. Now I load them from the assembly using Reflection approach. Though I don't find any difference in time, but in the long run does it affect the performance?     - RegEnumKeyEx causes native exception on PPC2002 Hi! I tried to enumerate the registry via RegOpenKeyEx / RegEnumKeyEx / RegCloseKey ("W" versions). It works fine on PPC2003 (I tested 5 terminals from different manufacturers with CE.Net and PPC2003), but on most PPC2002 (3 of 4 tested) I get a "native exception". I use TRY / CATCH / END TRY, but the program crashes without handling the error. It crashes at different keys of the registry. On one Pocket PC 2002 it worked. Strange: on a nearly identical one it crashed (Symbol PDT8146, one with Symbol and one with Avaya WLAN card). Very strange: To find the location in the source code where it crashed I inserted writing numbers into a file (wrapped WriteFile API call) before and after the RegEnumKeyEx call. IT NEVER CRASHES WITH THAT EXTENSION! After removing the WriteFile it crashed again. Does anyone know a(nother) workaround for this problem?     - Transparent Labels Hello all, Think I posted on this subject before, but I'm still none the wiser so here we go again. I've been trying to apply transparent backgrounds to labels and panels on my form, and even after applying sp2, I'm still having issues. I have a series of 240x268 panels and I want to drop a picturebox behind them all and have it show through - no joy. I've also tried creating a panel with a picturebox in it and positioning labels over the top of it, then changing the label backcolor to transparent using the following code: Me.Label8.BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.Transparent and still the label shows up as white! Whats even stranger is that the background color for the form is not even white - its silver. Where is white being inherited from? Can anyone shed any light on this because its driving me nuts... I just want to put a pretty picture at the back of my form and have it show through the labels above it. How hard can this be? Am I missing something obvious? Surely it must be possible, or are all of my pocketpc apps destined to look like helloworld projects? I can only use vb.net for this - can it be done? If anyone have any information, I greatly appreciate it. I have built a smart device application by VB in Visual Studio .NET and I want to download this application to a SH3 device that is running WinCE 4.2 with .NET Compact framework. ActiveSync is running successfully between this device and my development PC which is Window 2000. But downloading fails and error is like this: "Deploying to Windows CE .NET Device using TCP Connect Transport Error: Cannot establish a connection. Be sure the device is physically connected to the development computer." But I can download to Windows CE .net Emulator. I have installed SQL Server 2.0 CE server and configured IIS.     - Notify bubbles on PPC 2003 Hi all, My colleague has a small problem which I have attempted to find a solution to, to no avail. The situation is that he wishes to pop up a notification bubble when certain things happen within his applicaion. We have already tried the OPENNETCF solution, however this fails to work on PPC 2003 (due to the Notification API being in a different place/implemented differently on PPC 2003??). The solution at gotdotnet (http://samples.gotdotnet.com/quickstart/CompactFramework/doc/notifications.aspx) provides the behaviour required, however it does not permit the ability to pop up an icon in the title pane, and hang the notification from that. We are after recreating the behaviour of MSN messenger on the PPC where upon reciept of a message, the MSN icon appears next to the speaker icon, and the new message is hung from that. Is this possible using the .NET Compact Framework, or are we going to have to survive with hanging it off the clock?? I have set up a network with a Win98 and an XP plugged to a router. Both machines can browse the internet but only the XP can share the files from the 98 but not vice versa. Firewalls on both are disable. I can ping all connections, i.e. the router, the XP and its own IP from the 98. However, nothing shows up on the Network Neighborhood except the Entire Network icon. Clicking on the icon gives an error message of Unable to browse network...

I have loaded files from the XP software via the network setup wizard to the 98. Wonder if anyone can help me to solve this problem

You've posted this to the wrong newsgroup. This is for application
development on Windows CE devices using .NET. Not very close.
