    - Waking up a Pocket PC from a complete shutdown I have a HP iPAQ which shut itself down if the battery temperature exceeds certain level. Is there any way (Programmatic or manual) to start it up again? I have already tried setting up Alarm and CeAppRunAtTime API and they doesn't seem to work as it is a complete shutdown.     - Wi-Fi Bootstrapper app I'm trying to separate my regular install from my CPF or Profile config file. Exported on the Symbol it is a reg file. When run it auto calls up RegMerge and installs itself always needing a soft reset for the Profile to actually show up in the list of Profiles on the device. I've been trying my darndest to get my install app to beable to "install" a CPF file in a remote folder before it finishes - but it's like it only installs what's in its build.... I'm about to the point where I create a simple little PPC app which basically all it does is execute the config file for the profile whether reg or cpf and then does a soft reset upon closing to cause the settings to display changed. Do I use a Shell regmerge against the reg file? CPFs are the future, so why does Symbol/Motorola export to REG files? and not CPFs? Any idea how to programmatically take a reg file and convert it to a CPF (including the one _setup.exe file)? Right now I'm using the Symbol Configuration Manager's convert REG utility option. Any suggestions? We just want one fairly generic install for our app and associated DLLs and then a seperate CPF for the Profile in order to set up the Wi-Fi for initial bootstrapping connection to the AP.     - Refresh-Problem on scrolling form with own control Hello! I've written an own control: a picture button with a text below. My class extends "Control" and overwrite the methode "OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e)". Here, a draw the image with "e.Graphics.DrawImage" and write the text with "e.Graphics.DrawString". Now, I used my control on many forms and it works very good. But if my form is higher than my display and I scroll the form, my control doesn't looks fine. It seems the display does not refresh fast enought and the text becomes blurred.     - graphics object of Button in CF 3.5 I want to extend a standard Button class (VS 2008, Compact Framework 3.5) - I need to change background, draw lines etc. Unfortunately it is impossible to override OnPaint method (I mean, I can override it, but this method never fires). I need graphics object which is available in OnPaint method. Anyway - how to create graphics object related to Button? There is no CreateGraphics method in Button class. When I cast Button to Control and call CreateGraphics() (it is available in Cotnrol class) UnSupportedException is thrown. Any ideas how to draw on a button?     - Edge and 3G Hello, I have one web service which is called from device on regular interval. When devices have Edge connection, they are not able to connect to web service (strangely enough they are able to browse under same signal strength). Only when they have 3G connection, they are able to connect. We are using AT&T service. Is there anything to do with AT&T..Is it possible that they are blocking some ports on EDGE connection?..     - Installer Run App feature I'm using the PocketPC Installer Professional app for deploying our app. Works great but we've decided we have to move the Profile.cpf out of the installation itself to keep the installation the same for all clients while be able to provide the variable Profile.cpf to clients separately. So this installer app allows the developer to shell out to one application at the end of the install app. My thought was to write another small bootstrap app that I'd call from here to programmatically add a WiFi Profile and set it's various properties programmatically - is this possible? (Motorola MC70 - Windows Mobile 5) The other idea I had was to call WCELOAD with the name of the Custom.cpf but I cannot find wceload.exe on the device anywhere to list in the program path. I know it's there since it auto invokes on physical tap of any CPF or CAB file. Basically I need to be able to have a variable file like Custom.Cpf which will set up a particular WiFi profile with that clients particular AP essid and passphrase etc. This has to be bootstrapped before the device can communicate with the AP to start with.     - ISupportInitialize bug in CF 2.0 Hi all the NG, I've found this article about ISupportInitialize bug http://www.bokebb.com/dev/english/1949/posts/194928091.shtml I'm developing my Graphs custom control for CF 2.0 and I've about 30/35 properties for the Graphs colors, appearence, values.. Every time one property change I must redraw the graph in a Bitmap object in memory and paste it in the UserControl_Paint event. I also need to save the graph in a bmp file for the printing, so I've used this way. During the InitializeComponents method are setted all the properties, so I recreate the Bitmap 30/35 times.. it's not so good... I've implemented ISupportInitialize interface in my UserControl, but when I drag&drop the control in my form the designer don't automatically adds the .BeginInit() and EndInit() methods, so my code in usercontrol will be never executed..     - Error using TCPClient w/ 3.5 CF and Windows Mobile Hello all. I have a application written in the 3.5 Compact Framework running on Windows Mobile devices. VB.NET VS 2008. The application communicates with our server using the System.Net.Sockets.TcpClient class This code used to communicate works flawlessly in our regular windows application. It also works wonderfully when the device (Treo 700 is my test case) is plugged into a PC with the USB cable.     - Mouse events in CF controls (ListView, TreeView, etc...) Hi, I was exploring the possibility to implement dragging items in a TreeView (or a ListView) control, for which I was planning to use the MouseDown, MouseUp, etc... events. However, these are not implemented for these controls (they are implemented only for Form, Panel, Control, from my understanding). I tried to implement custom controls derived from these, and override OnMouseUp, or just add the event and the event handler in the custom control (since all these are derived from Control), but it still does not seem to work. I also tried to implement a custom WndProc, but this does not work either. I searched the group, but did not find any solution not including third-party controls. Does anyone have any suggestion?     - Closing a serial port Hi. I have a project on which I use SPP. I open a serial port that is actually a BT serial port. Since moving to standby mode kill the connection, I have to reinitiate it by closing and reopening the port. All this is quite messy since it take ages to detect that comm was lost, close the port and reopen it. (Not to talk about pairing loss that occur from time to time, but this is another topic...). My question is, is there a way to make the close port faster? It takes about 14 seconds to finish... I use [DllImport ("coredll.dll")] private static extern int CloseHandle(int hObject); To close it.     - SqlCE Debugging/Troubleshooting Hi all, I'm having an issue when executing an RDA pull and then creating a secondary key from certain situations. Does anybody know of a good tool that might help me track down this issue? Pocket PC 2003 SE C# Compact Framework 2.0 SQL Server 2005 CE The issue occurs after an RDA pull does not finish successfully. One way I get this to happen is if the device is rebooted in the middle of the RDA pull. The next time the program is ran the RDA pull finishes successfully, but then the program crashes when I alter the table to add a secondary key. The crash is uncatchable neither a catch(Exception) or generic catch seems to do any good. The weird thing is that if I change from applying a secondary key to any kind of data modifying sql statement the program still silently blows up.     - Serialport issue? Hi, VS2008, .net3.5 I have this simple test application running on my iPaq to test reading serial data from a bluetooth device. My bluetooth device sends about 7 bytes pr 22ms continously. The bluetooth device is some in-house electronics, and it should be ok as it has been used and tested for several years:) After every Serialport.Open() it takes about 10s !!!! before the first SerialPort_DataReceived event is fired. The first time the event is fired, I *always* get 1694 bytes?? After this the event is fired like expected: about 1 time for every 7 bytes (ex. @0A3C + CRLF) Can anyone advice on how to prevent, or at least reduce, the 10 sec delay before the first SerialPort_DataReceived ???     - cut & paste (difference between PPC2002 and WM5 ?) Hello, I have a question about the cut & paste functionality. We have created a software with VS2003 and CF1 for PPC2002. This software is also running on a newer hardware (WM5). Only one issue is irritating for me: On the PPC2002 all text boxes can be copied by cut & paste functionality. Just hold the pen (blue circle comes) and select copy from the PopUpMenue. I have not coded this in the software! On the WM5 device this is not working any more. Of course the software runs well, but this function was gone. No change in the sourcecode! Is this a difference between PPC2002 and WM5?     - Timer-based Animation with g.DrawImage Gives Random Pauses For my Windows CE 5.0 App (using C# in Visual Studio 2005) I have to create several images (on the fly) and play them back as an animation. I've created an "Animation Control" which holds an array of images (usually about 18 images) and uses a timer to show them via "DrawImage". These pauses are typically for 3 or 4 seconds and they occur somewhat randomly. Is this due to garbage collection or due to my "DrawImage" approach? The answer is OEM dependent. I would personally say that all peripherals
should be reset when it happens, but it's up to the OEM how it was actually
implemented.
